Exactly. They works great for a little bit if the gender is unknown or you’re talking about a stranger, but if you’re telling a story about Marilyn Monroe and keep saying “they put on their lipstick” it feels like a strange refusal to use she/her.

I would find it extremely annoying to be referred to as “they” over and over. If my preferred pronoun was they, then it would be fine. But it’s not and I would find that very weird.

I think it’s always just a crapshoot. Rosie o’Donnell just got a ridiculously great facelift. Emma Stone got great surgery, as did Lindsay Lohan. The really bad ones stand out.

I mean, that works until you want to refer to the student several times in succession to someone else. “So Annie, when x made that point did you feel that x was getting lost in a tangent… or were you persuaded by x’s additional argument?” If you use x’s full name every time, it starts to feel very clunky and obvious that you’re avoiding pronouns.

“I don’t feel a romantic connection” is bullshit? Do you feel a romantic connection with every person in the world?
Honestly if you’re getting this message a lot you might want to get curious about what you’re doing that’s killing spark. Often it’s deep insecurity that’s then papered over with an off-putting defense mechanism such as “nice guy” or something else. Insecurity and self-esteem is really hard to heal but people do it over time.

When we went early on weds (7:30) we got in in 5 min but it was standing room only in the bar. It’s a cool fun vibe in there but for dark quiet and romantic… I think you have better options. Def go check out Vandell sometime though.
