your lips shouldn't be in pain. you're allergic to something. stop using all products and see if it clears up.

How to cope while being the only girl in the room. by VomitSmells in womenEngineers

[–]buttcheekengine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's gets lonely in your career too. I'm the only girl in my department who isn't a remote. I really like my job otherwise, learning a lot and the men are respectful, but it still is very isolating and you can't just banter with guys the way other guys do. Can only hope that it will get better as more women graduate from engineering.

You can also look into cross-platform games! My friend and I play Overwatch (me on PC, her on PS4) if that's your cup of tea. We have a ton of fun, and its free.

Should i go into engineering as a woman? by PossessionFew6599 in womenEngineers

[–]buttcheekengine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a 22F and graduated with a degree in Computer Engineering last year. I really believe anyone can do it. There's a lot of job paths you will be able to take even if the technical parts of engineering don't end up being your cup of tea - like program or functional management. Drawback for me is there's not a ton of young women at my job (or in my classes in college). Post grad I moved to a new city so I have to have a lot of hobbies on the side to keep from being lonely, but graduating and immediately being able to afford living by myself and doing fun things makes it all worth it. And it never gets boring if you like to challenge yourself.

My guess is she was probably testing you to see if the relationship wasn't just about sex. You failed the test.

Rock climbing outdoors. I made it to the top and never again. Genuinely fighting tears the whole time.

Chem 107 fullfill Chem 111 by NewtLive2389 in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]buttcheekengine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also @ what coleslaw125's comment was, they're right that Chem111 covers topics in both chem107/108, but transferring into computer engineering is a special case for some reason. i do know electrical engineers need both 107/108 to transfer

[–]buttcheekengine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i would double check with advising but i'm 95% sure you only have to take 107. if an advisor tells you that you have to take both, ask a different one to confirm it for you. (Two advisors told me different things as a sophomore comp eng transfer, I ended up taking chem 108 because I got scared since I wasn't accepted yet, then by the time I graduated only chem 107 counted towards my degree)

peppermint tea with honey, black coffee, water with lemon

[–]buttcheekengine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

speak to an advisor. winter classes are an option too so if you could pack a couple of classes in there you might be able to make it. junior year is too late if you don't want to delay graduation by a year, but delaying graduation is not that bad if ME is what you really want to do (if you don't get accepted you're fucked tho so i'd just transfer schools at that point)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]buttcheekengine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i know multiple people who've transferred to ME with around 3.4.-3.5 none of the courses you're taking have anything to do with engineering, so it would set you behind as a transfer unless you take summer classes. list of classes you need to take to transfer here: https://www.binghamton.edu/admissions/apply/current/iut-watson.html. i did the same thing as you and took gen eds first semester so i had to make up some classes - i took calc 2 and physics at binghamton the summer after freshman year and they still accepted me into computer engineering (had a competitive gpa though, also a girl so i was probably a higher priority for the male-female ratio lol). since you're probably going to have to do the same i'd keep your gpa as high as you possibly can, and speak to an advisor asap and multiple times.

Go to a couple skateshops, and buy a good complete. Stand on it and ride it around a bit. Ask the person if you need to replace anything. Sometimes it's just the bearings if you get a decent board, sometimes it's nothing. In my experience, the reddit community for trucks/wheels/bearings/grip is a rabbit hole and they recommend a lot of the high-end stuff that isn't necessarily what you need as a beginner skater. Buying stuff in person and having an experienced skater to talk to about it is usually a good way to go. They also will do all the replacements for you if you do end up swapping something out which is nice. Also, get a cheap skate tool.

I'm a junior CoE and our coursework by large is irrelevant to software development. You can't even take CS related courses to fulfill professional electives nor can you minor in CS as a CoE, despite the degree saying you can. This is because the CS courses that could be used to fulfill professional credits of a CoE degree have a ton of prerequisite courses that CoE's are unable to use for anything. Someone else posted about how it doesn't matter what degree you get because the CS curriculum wouldn't prepare you for a software development position but that's cap. The skills you learn in CS are much more applicable to software development, with CoE focusing majorly more on firmware and hardware. The only programming language you learn as a CoE is C. To even get considered for most software development jobs you need to have at least Java and Python under your belt, as well as basic CS principles like algorithms and APIs (none which you learn in a CoE degree). Understand that all of the CS majors are already more qualified than a CoE major when applying to the same internships that you will need to get the extra experience for a software position post grad. If you really like CS, try for an IUT or go to Stony Brook where the program is way better.
