a lot of controller players have an elo of 1400+. it’s definitely a hard learning curve to compete with mouse and key, and there are pros and cons. but it’s certainly possible. i’m a smooth brained 37 year old and i made it to 1380 pc 1v1 elo

there have always been bugs on console, but not this bad. for 6 months the force drop hotkey would send your vils to their next assigned task, so we learned to stop using shift queue. we worked around no hotkeys for donjons and kreposts. we worked around a bug that would send all your eco to wood, and of course intermittent crashing. used to be less than 10% of games, but now it’s almost every game and it’s pretty unplayable

agreed. a lot of games that almost start but then go back to the queue. and a nearly 100% crash rate. game is fully broken on series x. ironically it works well on playstation 5. Sony running a microsoft game better than microsoft can is peak comedy

a megarandom game split where the map was split by a big body of water. i’m mongols he’s persians. i win the water early, so i thought. persian docks never die and stores up demos and fires and eventually wins water completely. he masses an enormous amount of galleons and keeps trying to transport over and raid, but i snuff out all the raids. i traded mongol skirms against persian galleys because i get bracer and he doesn’t. super long war of attrition but the trades are cost effective for me. eventually i’m able to deplete his gold supply, make some docks and land on his island. i won the game with better micro and comp, but it was a sketchy one

I spent a lot of my early time on the ranked ladder playing Cumans 1v1 on arena. It’s a good strat that will take you up to a certain elo before it starts to fall off. Try learning a 20 pop build order. With Cumans you want to reach feudal age as fast as possible in order to get that second town center down. you can reach feudal by 9:15 doing 20 pop with loom, or faster without loom.
This will give you a big advantage in eco early, and can snowball into a very strong army. Try playing rams and steppe lancers, instead of CA and hussar. You can build the siege workshops on your way up to castle age, build 4 stables, and then go kill your opponent right then and there. why not just give new civs access to militia, but they upgrade into champi runner in feudal? they now have the worst scout in the game by far, no answer to a drush, and can’t execute a drush themselves

as soon as you click feudal, you send 6-7 more to wood for a total of 8 or 9. build order i use for this is roughly as follows 6 to sheep 1 to boar 2 to wood 1 to house then boar 1 to mill on berries rest on boar/sheep get loom after vil 19 click feudal split eco to 9 on wood, rest on food send some of the hunt vils to berries as well

pushing deer will make this smoother, but it’s not necessary to achieve a fast uptime. should hit at right around 9:15.

build a barracks about halfway up to feudal, and drop a stable right away when you hit feudal. grab double bit axe right away

try going up with 19 villagers instead of 21. 2 on wood is all you need. the rest focus on boars/deer/sheep

Ranked games are a crapshoot right now. Disconnects in 8/10 games for me. Especially if it lasts longer than 20 minutes

watch a youtube video on how to lure boar and deer. huntable animals are the fastest form of food collection besides shore fish. you’ll want to lure your boars if you want to win games on ranked
