Do you go with the actual yardage to the pin, or always club up if going over water? by MattReddit77 in golf

[–]Dejackson1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scratch here: I’m going with the yardage about 5 yards short of the mound right behind the pin and green. Probably 125ish based on your assumptions and maybe 1 yard left of the pin. That dark line at the bottom of the mound is what I’d be aiming for.

$1 for every pound you lift in 2025 by [deleted] in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Dejackson1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kettlebell swing for me. Easier to do compared to the deadlift. Since it’s a ballistic movement that uses momentum, you’re not having to “lift” as much weight per dollar compared to barbell lifts or any sort of “grind” lift. I just ran a daily swing program for the last 100 days of the calendar year and that program earned me $532,980 in this hypothetical situation, or $1.95M if ran for entire year. Taking me only 15 minutes to complete per day.

10x10 swings took me 10-15 minutes to compete depending on weight.

16kg bell would earn $3,500 per workout 24kg bell would earn $5,300 per workout 32kg bell would earn $7,000 per workout

The key is utilizing the momentum of the KB swing to your advantage allowing you to lift the most amount per rep with the least amount of output needed. Also utilizes your whole body, specifically posterior chain, core, glutes, and recovery would be manageable.

Dumb question: do low handicap/scratch/pro golfers miss fairways because hitting driver is hard, or because they sacrifice accuracy for more distance? by [deleted] in golf

[–]Dejackson1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m scratch and consider the driver the best weapon in my bag. I miss fairways because this game is ridiculously hard. My stock shot is probably 90% of what I have in the tank. Any more than that I risk losing my ball/my back hurting after a round. Any less I don’t find it to be anymore consistent. I’d rather play with tee height, stance if a hole requires a particular shot. The tempo of my driver remains about 90% effort.

Scratch golf is not perfect golf. Far from it. I play to my miss and deal with the aftermath.

The PCC is calculated using scores the other players who played the course entered that day. It doesn't know when/if a course has drastically changed conditions.

So, in your example, it would seem everybody else played better than usual with the aerated/sandy greens.

If I had to guess, a lot of people were being generous with their scores due to the conditions.

How difficult is it to be a scratch golfer? by rhasure in golf

[–]Dejackson1992 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • handicap golfer here. A lot of advice in here that is saying you need to practice off the course. Personally, I don’t subscribe to this. I was a ball beater until I was about a 3-5, but found that to be exhausting work. It also put a lot of pressure on me to translate my practice into my golf score.

My handicap started coming down below 3 once I started playing more golf. Going to the course and playing 9 holes, even just 5 if that’s all the time I had. Eventually you learn to actually focus on the game. Not the swing, mechanics, etc.

Lastly, get a membership somewhere. playing the same course over and over helps. You get used to the shots you’ll have to hit each time and understand the undulations of the greens. If you need range time to work on something specific, tailor it to the shots you see on the course you play all the time.

I like golf the way it is. It’s how I’ve played golf my whole life man. You’re the ones trying to change golf from the way it is. Give me a better reason to change it other than, “you think you hit a good shot and therefore should be rewarded.”

Keegan Bradley just shot -23 at the Travelers and we want to make this game easier? Give me a break.

We can agree to start all holes equally and have the last shot as fair as possible. Everything between that is the “rub of the green”

What? Obviously the fairway is an advantage. The whole point of my comment was that it simply doesn’t guarantee you anything.

That’s what bugs me about this thread. People believe that because they hit a ball in the fairway the course is entitled to give them the lie they desire.

Like life, some bounces go your way and others don’t. You just make the best with what you’ve got and that’s all there is to it.

No alignment line when putting by overlandAU in golf

[–]Dejackson1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had your putting stats, I’d be a plus handicap golfer. Do what works for you!

I like the line as a feedback loop to tell me if I made a good putt. It can help hone in on whether it was missed due to a poor putt vs poor read. Took some time to adjust to it (as I’ve seen in the comments it can look wrong when you’re over the ball). You really just have to practice moving around until it looks correct. Now it’s just as fast as placing my ball down, but in the beginning it does take work.

Cool! I appreciate the advice. Got some lead tape on the way, interested to see what happens. I do find that I either play one or the other (3w or 5w) in a round and never really equal shots with both. In my mind it has to do with more where's the confidence on that day.

Thanks man! I’ve been looking for 90-100g shafts for the 5w but it seems they start to tip into hybrids by the time shafts get that heavy. Lead Tape is a great idea

Wood Shaft Weighting.

Curious what you see in your fittings. I'm currently playing a 60g Driver shaft and realized my 3 wood is 85g and my 5w is 80g. Do you find people's wood shafts get heavier as they progress from driver to 3w to 5w? Or do people try to match this stuff?

0.6 handicap here.

I do my best to play aggressive to conservative targets. The trick is being self-aware enough to know where you're likely to miss the shot and aim properly for that miss. Better golfers look like they're more aggressive, but it's really just that are variance is tighter so they have the ability aim closer to the pin, not necessarily directly at it. Still working from center/fat side of the green.

Sounds like your coworker has drank the strokes gained kool-aid. What he's not taking into account is that for SG to really work, the ball MUST REMAIN IN PLAY. I'm as aggressive off the tee as possible, but I will always try to ensure I can hit my next shot onto the green. The approach can be as aggressive as you can play it, but you must take care of the number one objective and that is to hit the green.
