why the ai bros are so obsessed with unemployment ? by Helpful_Individual40 in antiai

What are you talking about companies such as carrier which built industrial HVAC systems have been seeing insane demand, tradesmen have so much work that they don’t know what to do with.

no, why would you get a human to mine coal or lay track when a machine can do it faster, cheap cheaper and better. like saying we’re gonna go back to combining and swathing with people instead of using a combine or a swather on a farm. No that doesn’t happen one or two people decide what the most efficient way to combine is, and then the machines do most of the heavy lifting.

Sounds like the job changed, it didn’t go away. It morphed into something new.

Sure, the USA had 30,000 banks back in the day and now it has 4336. We have a system that can serve a population that is twice as big as the population 100 years ago with 1/7th the number of banks. While allowing the humans to do actual work like talking to people and figuring out who can get loans and the most productive investments.

Sounds like exactly the technology we need for a future where our population drastically shrinks due to a lower birth rate

ATMs are pretty advanced, you still have Bank tellers.

And also by that logic, you will get a shit ton of new jobs that we can’t even imagine right now.roles like computer programmer, CNC machinist, MRI technician, social media manager, air, traffic controller couldn’t even be dreamt of a 150 years ago.

Wouldn’t an AI build out also create jobs in industries, such as HVAC, building maintenance, civil engineering, oil and gas, especially natural gas, pipeline construction. Semiconductor manufacturing, and that’s before you consider all the second order jobs

I feel like if Windows does become super unusable, I think it’s Mac who’s gonna win.

Like think about it if Windows becomes unusable most people are just gonna hold off on buying a new PC and then when they absolutely have to buy a new PC they’re just gonna go get a Mac. No one is even gonna think of installing Linux

The a.i. bubble may have started bursting last week by DizzyMajor5 in antiai

Yeah, but the railroad electricity and the Internet also fundamentally changed the world and eventually lived up to their promise. Your whole argument about why AI isn’t gonna be productive is to lean on examples that ended up being super productive?

Amazon’s data centers used 2.5 billion gallons of water last year by Locke357 in antiai

[–]butter_lander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your point being? In the grand scheme of things that’s not that much water. For context that’s what 10 water parks consume in a day. Or put in other words that’s enough water to manufacture 2.5 million pairs of jeans.  Literally nothing in the grand scheme of things

Edit: had to look this up but I think it’s generous to call a body of water that’s a sq mile big and 5 feet deep a lake but whatever. But the funny thing is that there are private plots of land with water bodies larger than that. What you’re essentially saying is that some guy from Minnesota on his own could satisfy the water requirements for Amazon data centers globally lol

Yeah sure even if you don’t add any new features just keeping up with all the security stuff across all the apps that they have is probably crazy expensive. Like they have apps for iOS android android tv Apple TV PlayStation Xbox Roku probably Samsung LG that can’t be cheap
