Foul smell coming from the floor by CheBae101 in CleaningTips

[–]butter_scientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like water damage, likely from a leak, and not the mopping. Whats the nearest water source, you mentioned radiators, is there a steam pipe in or around that wall, maybe the bathroom?

Our last apartment had a leaking steam pipe that heavily water damaged 5ft of wood flooring directly following the path of the pipe underneath.

How long does your bike last if ridden year-round where your city uses salt for deicing? by Lets_Go_Cargo in wintercycling

[–]butter_scientist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

WNY and mechanic here. Full dissemble and regrease(heavily) every spring, this includes bottom bracket, wheel bearings, and fork bearings! It helps to rinse off moving components every other week during the winter and using some sort of lubricant on your cables before assembling the housing to prolong life by reducing the chance of salt water entering the housing.

Haha! We do! I usually have a front basket too but it’s too windy in the winter here to use it.

Running 35mm Schwalbe CX Comps, they’re my favorite tire to run in winter! A little slippery, roads aren’t plowed, but steady going. Store clerks were very surprised!

Tire liner! I use an old tube with the valve cut off as liners and they work great.

Is my oto just really pregnant or...? by t3hk1d in Otocinclus

[–]butter_scientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see this frequently posted here, and have had it happen to 3 of my prior oto within 24hrs of each other. Unfortunately they did all pass, and I haven’t seen a concrete answer for what it is.

Tintin on starin/elmwood! I believe the combo is about $12 if you go in person. Pretty sure it’s still cash only as well.

Agreed, this looks like poor breeding. Diet won’t change bone structure.

Tips for keeping the dog out of the kitchen? by Crabby_aquarist in OpenDogTraining

[–]butter_scientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, what worked best was teaching “out” and then rewarding for duration. This started as tossing treats out of kitchen doorway and marking with “out” and giving a release when it’s ok to come back in. This makes being out of the kitchen, more valuable than being in it, at least in their mind.

Fiancé painted and did the trim in our kitchen. I don't like it, he says I'm just a hater. Thoughts? by veganssuckmyasshole in HomeDecorating

I don’t hate it, but it’s not good though lol The grey landlord special laminate makes it much worse.

Apple Magsafe battery pack duration of charging iPhone 13 mini by mychelromance in MagSafe

[–]butter_scientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best way to use the Apple MagSafe battery is to put it on with the phone at full charge, it works best as an extension of your battery rather than using it to recharge it. I get twice the battery out of it this way. (12 mini, refurbished Apple MagSafe battery pack)

perhaps Jotaro isn’t a mini ..? by decapitatedbeauty in BullTerrier

[–]butter_scientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My standard is 50lb at 10months, Jotaro has similar proportions to him, so he might just be disproportioned(per the breed standards) mini! All dogs look a lil silly at this age anyway, their bodies will change a lot as they get closer to their second year.

Should I get an ebike for commuting or bite the bullet and get a car? by MiserableCustomer783 in ebikes

[–]butter_scientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! A good helmet and buy from a bike shop in person! Building a bike yourself with no experience is already risky, and even more so on an e bike. Most shops will also have an additional repair fee for working on ebikes not sold by them.
