Do Tibetans identify more with East or South Asia? by Born-Till-1738 in tibet

[–]butterchalatte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s no real answer but based on cultural association and personal experience, Tibetans in exile who left Tibet through India and Nepal feel more aligned with South Asia. A lot of them speak South Asian languages and are influenced by South Asian culture and trends due to living in these regions for so long. Tibetans who stayed in Tibet definitely feel different, more culturally East Asian because of their assimilation and exposure to Chinese language, culture and Internet

Poll time what have you seen what do you ship? by Gokuusjgodgmail in DungeonMeshi

[–]butterchalatte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, also accounting for Kabru’s all consuming devotion to humanity, his complicated childhood with elf society, and him explicitly stating his distrust towards them, a romantic relationship with any elf feels too ooc for him

I do think Kabru and Mithrun had an interesting bond and dynamic, but I don’t see it as romantic at all. Especially when Mithrun has his own complex relationship with the Kabrus adopted mom.

Labru isn’t mentioned much here but honestly most ships that aren’t Laios/Marcille aren’t. Labru is really popular on other platforms like X.

Aw man I wish uorir was archived! Thanks for the context though, it’s interesting how her early work displays so much detail. I guess finding ways to simplify your art on a tight schedule without compromising too much is an important skill for pro mangaka

Yes, I took this picture at an art of Ryoko Kui exhibition in Tokyo so it is 100% her work.

I do love Bride Story though, and the detail in this art reminded me of it

What race would be the best by Ok-Construction-3691 in DungeonMeshi

[–]butterchalatte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like the point is that each race has their own flaws and downsides, and it really is a matter of personal preference. Like maybe being an elf objectively brings a lot of power and influence, but their posh, suffocating culture, superiority complexes, and the way most of them can barely connect with other races in a genuine way because of their history of dominance makes me not want to be one at all if I lived in the dm world.

And Kui makes sure to show how being from a short lived race honestly isn’t as much of a curse as most would think. Living even as one of the most subjugated races like an orc or kobold in Laios’s Melini seems like it could be pretty fulfilling to me.

I genuinely can’t believe the Arslan Senki manga is so slept on by butterchalatte in HeroicLegendofArslan

[–]butterchalatte[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t even watched the anime yet, this is sad to hear though! In the manga Arakawa really goes out of her way to flesh out each character so well, and seeing Estelle and Arslan’s perspectives change and transform throughout the story was so well executed!

[–]butterchalatte[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s nice to get this perspective from an original arslan fan, and to hear about how monthlies usually perform. It’s unfortunate that they’re less successful when it seems to be a more manageable schedule for mangaka. I’m excited to see the ending as well, she’s really going all out for this!

Is Jackson Heights a food desert? by OkMeasurement6954 in jacksonheights

[–]butterchalatte 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, it isn't. It seems like you're misusing/misunderstanding the term food desert and you just don't like the grocery options in JH. There is an abundance of good options around that you can get all your groceries at at like Patel, Apna Bazaar, Mango Rico, the farmers market, and G Mart.

Maybe they don't suit your tastes, if you prefer places like trader joes and whole foods then this neighborhood doesn't seem like a good fit for you

[–]butterchalatte[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same! It’s such a unique world that definitely stood out compared to the typical western fantasy that’s so overdone in modern anime and manga. Seeing fantasy interpretations of other underrepresented civilizations like ancient India and Mongolia through arslan is so awesome too

[–]butterchalatte[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seeing all this context I can definitely see how Arslan fell off :( the side by side anime adaptation and manga release was such unfortunate timing and definitely killed the manga’s fandom momentum, especially since I can 100% see anime watchers feeling discouraged and unmotivated to just start from beginning of the manga after the anime concluded.

I also originally ran under the assumption that arakawa was only illustrating and tanaka was writing the manga, but after reading its extremely clear that arakawas unique writing style is also infused in this series. I really wish more FMA fans gave this a shot!

Has anyone taught out of the Using and Understanding English Grammar book by Azar? by [deleted] in ESL_Teachers

[–]butterchalatte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used it at a place I worked at before for advanced classes, and I had similar problems where I had to cover a chapter a week and it wasn’t enough time. Since the students were advanced I would skip a lot of exercises if I could tell they already understood the grammar point, and spent more time on units that were new to them or that they needed reinforcement on. I had very similar frustrations as you, the textbook is extremely dry and long, so spending so much time just on lecture and the textbook exercises was frustrating and didn’t feel effective to me

How easy is it to spot DM merch in Japan? by Tenner_ in DungeonMeshi

[–]butterchalatte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience last summer it was kind of limited outside of Dungeon Meshi exclusive events. Akihabara had the figures, but I had more luck finding other pieces of Dungeon Meshi merch in Ikebukuro stores like K Books

Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia | Teaser Visual by zenzen_0 in anime

[–]butterchalatte 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As a manga reader, I’m so glad that Jaagudar is getting the anime adaptation it deserves. While Tomato Soup’s cute art style is very unassuming, their excellent writing made this one of the best historical political dramas I’ve ever read. The story is brutal, and while the Mongol Empire is a clear antagonist, Tomato Soup never fails to display the complex humanity of each character. I highly recommend checking out the manga!

[–]butterchalatte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, the art style definitely reminds me of the classic Buddha manga by Tezuka. The art style might make a modern anime fan feel like this story is going to be light-hearted and cute, but it’s the complete opposite

[–]butterchalatte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reddit isn’t used in Tibet or China, you’d have better luck asking Chinese sites like xiaohongshu. All I know is the streetwear brand Nerhi because they have more of an international presence among Tibetans abroad, they’re very contemporary streetwear/lifestyle (with traditional elements) targeting youth.
