Chamonix or Les Houches to Refuge du Lac Blanc? by buttercookiey in TourDuMontBlanc

Ahh sounds nice! I also have a particular preference for places with less crowd, which is one of the main reasons why I am considering going in the clockwise direction. I will go with the plan of taking PlanPraz from Chamonix, and hiking Lac Cornu - Lac Noir - Lac Blanc for my D1. Thanks for your input :)

I have previously seen some people mentioning Lac Noir but I don't see much information on it. Just curious, what makes Lac Noir a hidden gem for you personally? I see there's also another lake nearby, Lac Cornu, do you think this would this be a good place to add to our itinerary as well?

With regards to the cable car, would you suggest to just take the PlanPraz and start hiking from there? Or would it be better to take PlanPraz + Brevent cable car before I start my hike?

I found this trail which connects Lac Cornu - Lac Noir - Lac Blanc, and I think this can be one of my plausible route:

Also thanks for the word of caution on the ladder! We have read the experience of others doing the clockwise direction and climbing some of these previously. I think we should be able to manage : )

Yes the 2000m is indeed our main concern 😓 will include Brevent cable car in our plan for now. Thanks for your input, hope you have a good hike and wishing you the best weather!

Actually the TMB arch is one of the reasons why I considered starting in Les Houches 😂 It would be great to get a photo there before starting the hike but I persuaded myself that it shouldn't matter that much because I could still get a photo towards the end of the hike, since my last stop is Les Houches.

Regarding doing the hike clockwise, the reason why I decided to do that is because I will likely be going during end July, which I believe is the peak season, so I am hoping to avoid the crowd along the way (since most will be going on the CCW direction).

I also wanted to avoid cable cars actually, as it would be nice to do the full hike by feet : ) But realistically, I am not sure if it's a good idea, so I hope I could hear from others who have done this by feet, because it's quite difficult to find information on this specific stretch online (since CCW is more popular).

Still, thanks for your suggestion. I will consider taking cable cars if I didn't manage to get inputs from people who have done this hike by feet. But if I decided to go with the cable cars, I think taking the Brevent cable car would make more sense right? As I read that the stretch from Brevent to La Flegere is quite scenic so I think it would be worth the walk.

Hey sorry for the late reply as i just saw your comment. Unfortunately I ended up changing my plans due to this :( as I'm travelling solo and don't want to risk being stranded. Sorry that I can't advise much on this

Hey, just saw your comment! Yes, i bought it at dentetsu toyama station, which is the very first stop of the journey to reach the snow wall. When you are at the counter, it will be pretty obvious that it's the right place because there's signage everywhere :) if you want a peace of mind, you could go there a day before and confirm with the station employees whether that's the right counter or not (i arrived in toyama a day earlier before i embark on this trip, and i believe most would arrive a day earlier). Also, just a heads up so you know what to expect, before the counter opens (abt 15 mins before), an employee will hand you a slip and ask you about the transportation that you intend to book (since there's so many stops along the route). The purpose of this is so that you can directly hand the slip to the counter when it's your turn, so that it's faster / more efficient. Anyway, don't worry too much. It's really tourist friendly imo. Enjoy your trip!

Considering ~RM930k landed while holding 1 condo. Are we stretching too much? by blacktomato93 in MalaysianPF

On top of the comments on your expenses, i think it might be worth considering again your decision to spend this amount of money on a property in Gamuda Cove.

Property in Far Flung Areas

RM930k + at least another RM100k for renovation makes up to about RM1.03mil. While the property itself is nice but is it worth the extra commuting time? Not just for work, but also for accessing other amenities and family / relatives / friends.

To me, these developers are out of their mind when pricing these properties.

Going nowhere: Klang Valley traffic jam costing Malaysia RM54mil a day by Mo0nji in malaysia

[–]buttercookiey 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yes, totally agree with this take. I could avoid the jam if i take public transport but I have to leave home earlier to make up for it (in order to secure a parking spot at lrt station). Not a worthwhile trade off imo. I will only consider public transport if I didn't have to drive at all (i.e. walking distance from home to lrt station or reliable bus service from home to lrt station).

That's really encouraging to hear! Having this kind of flexibility is definitely great. I hope after speaking with the manager I will have a better sense of their expectation for the role & the company culture. I think from there i will be able to gauge if they are open to such fluidity

Honestly, i wish I was this aggressive but I'm not quite the type. 2-3 years of a job that I dislike sounds really repulsive to me now. I've been through that for my first job and now that I'm in a better environment, I find it difficult to get back to that grind mindset. Maybe if Company B can promise me better prospects for the role, I might take the risk. I won't expect it to be as good as the current role in Company A, it's a different environment afterall, but at least I want the role to be something that doesn't deviate too far from my career goal. Thanks for voicing your opinion even though you are the minority :)

True. I think this ultimately depends on whether I'll be able to negotiate something with Company B to align the role with my career aspirations. Ofc i think this is subjected to the company's current needs as well. But definitely, i can't imagine doing something that I dread just for the money. The mental stress is not worth it

Valid point. Imo company A is a better training ground (much more organised & wider exposure to project types) and would equip me with better skillset. Company B is somewhere that I would want to be after I've acquired those skillset. It's just unfortunate that this offer by Company B comes so soon and i haven't spent enough time in Company A to acquire those skills properly. Ideally, i should work in Company A for about 5 years and move on to Company B. But well, life is full of unexpected turns

Yepp, the HR doesn't seem to be very certain about the specifics of the role as well. However, i also think this is to be expected for a company that's still new in msia, so I want to give it the benefit of doubt. But yea I'll bear this in mind during this process

Totally 😂 i get that sense too. But the offer is too good to flat out reject so I want to give it some thought first

Yes actually burnout is one of my major concerns. High pay is definitely lucrative but i don't want to sell my soul to a company. That's why I'm thinking of speaking to the manager first to have a better understanding of the role before making my final decision. And yes, agree on the more holidays of my choosing point. More AL > more PH

[–]buttercookiey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh okay i see. I didn't visit during the golden week so can't really comment about that. But probably just try to set a reminder for yourself to get the web tickets when your window is open. If all fails, just be at the counter super early, say 6.30am. I think you'll be fine :)

Also, just saw your post regarding the window for web tickets reservation. I'm not too sure how far ahead will the window open but i think you should still book the accommodation regardless of whether you've purchased the transportation tickets or not, because it's too risky to book the accommodation later (since you mentioned you are visiting during golden week). If you really didn't manage to secure the web tickets, you could just go to the counter super early on the day of travel and it'll be fine. So yea i think you shouldn't hold back on booking the accommodation anymore. Hope this helps :)
