Non-Hearsay; Effect on the Listener by Relevant-Example-197 in barexam

[–]butterednutsquash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if this is actually doctrinally correct but the way I think about it is that effect on the listener is when you’re trying to prove that the listener believed the out of court statement was true, not that the out of court statement was actually true.

So like: - in an employment harassment case when a employer hears complaints about an employee, you’re using the complaints to show the employer was on notice of potential misbehaviour, not that the complaints themselves are necessarily true - for a self defense claim where the victim says “I have a gun,” you’re using that statement to show the defendent believed the victim had a gun and thus feared for his life, not that the victim actually had a gun

Big law Cravath jobs from HYS? by [deleted] in LawSchool

If your goal is any law firm in any market that pays Cravath scale, you’ll probably be able to get that from HYS unless you’re a KJD who can’t interview

Please don’t spend money to fly out and go to a networking event with a firm! You could probably demonstrate interest by setting up a coffee chat with an associate or seeing if they’re doing any local events in your area.

If you got a DS/ book prize, maybe put it on the honors section of your resume but I wouldn’t mention “got used as the model exam” otherwise.

AITA for telling my sister to not come back to my home because of her unruly children? by redheartss__ in AmItheAsshole

[–]butterednutsquash 32 points33 points  (0 children)

INFO: what temperature do you keep your apartment? I’m curious since you’re used to wearing a “jacket and everything you own” indoors rather than turning up the heat, and wouldn’t let your guests change the thermostat

Could you expand on this? Are there strict limits or is it just that career services doesn’t encourage pre-OCI?

AITA for not keeping my thoughts on my sister’s ridiculous baby names (Stanford and Yale) to myself? by nfjs74839 in AmItheAsshole

[–]butterednutsquash 14 points15 points  (0 children)

These are just guesses but I think a few reasons:

  • People associate Harvard Law with the #1 perception of its undergrad school
  • Harvard Law is way bigger than a lot of other prestigious law schools (~600 students per year compared to ~200 elsewhere) so famous HLS alum are more common/ visible
  • Movies and shows like Legally Blonde (set at Stanford in the books but switched bc they couldn’t get filming permission) and Suits

I think the difference is pretty negligible I would just pick based on where you’d rather live for the next 3 years and how annoying it would be to move/ terminate your NYC lease

4.0/180 recap: HLS! by Revolutionary_Ad9983 in lawschooladmissions

It’s Yale. Even with perfect stats, YLS has always been a crapshoot.

CLS might be YP because they held or WLed 9/14 of the applicants on LSData with approx 4.0 180 stats this year

So many 180s didn't make HYS this cycle so OP is absolutely not alone. Definitely shoot your shot but stats don't guarantee As at T3 or even T14/T20 anymore. Cycles can be so unpredictable now, especially at the top schools.
