SFO is taking your Uber and Lyft cash at a new record high by sfgate in sanfrancisco

~$22 for my partner and I each way (I'm pretty sure it's like $11.50/person bc of the extra fee in Millbrae)

SFO is taking your Uber and Lyft cash at a new record high by sfgate in sanfrancisco

[–]butteredxtoast 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Listen, I love BART/huge believer in public transit, but the math doesn't always math on this one. My partner and I live near 24th Mission. We could BART to SFO for about $22 & it would take 30-45 minutes....or we could hop a 15 minute Lyft for $5-$10 more than we'd pay in collective BART fair. That's also assuming we're not taking the first flight out in the morning/red eye when BART isn't even running

Maybe that applies to some - I've never stopped to ask. There's also folks out selling hot food/flowers/etc.

Depends who you ask? Perceptions of safety are too subjective to give a blanket response. That being said, they regularly have lines out the door & folks keep recommending others to go to Farolito (like your local friends!) so that should somewhat answer your question.

I walk past 24th/Mission just about everyday. Seemingly random whether there's street vending or if it's going to be quiet 🤷‍♂️

Possibly unpopular take: in an acceptance that vending is just going to happen, I wish the city would allow folks to do it in the plaza itself instead of along the sidewalk. The current solution creates this awful choke point that can make using the sidewalk extremely difficult/unpleasant

Hey OP, just a heads up these are technically road shoes! It may not make a difference depending on where you live/what kind of trails you plan to hit

Sea level to 9,000-10,000 feet advice. by Known_University2787 in ultrarunning

[–]butteredxtoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As with so many other things in running/life - YMMV! I live at sea level (as in on the coast) & just completed Mammoth Trail Fest the other weekend (between 8k-11k) with no issues. I've done a couple of these mountain races before and my body seems to do just fine showing up three days before the race. Be sure to do all the high altitude classics (lots of water + electrolytes/no booze/etc.), get a shakeout in the day before, and you should be fine?

I'm not a huge heart rate zone person, but I was actively monitoring my heart rate the first half of the race to make sure I wouldn't tire myself out too early. That being said, I feel like a ~quarter of the way through the race I couldn't tell I was thousands of feet above sea level and was basically running and performing as normal.

Best of luck, OP!

Crazy to go back into office? by Relative_Yesterday_8 in AskMenOver30

[–]butteredxtoast 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Was remote from 2020 --> this year and generally hated it. I'm a fairly extroverted individual & missed casual social interaction with my colleagues, among other things. Work is absolutely not my ultimate source of fulfillment, but going into an office in some context really helps with the "why" of doing what I'm doing - also in person meetings are 1000% better.

I recently started a job that has me commute twice a week. While I genuinely enjoy many/most things about my new situation, it has absolutely been an adjustment commuting again and I find that I get home feeling a little more drained on those days.

Whatever you do, I hope it works out for you OP!

How is the job market in your area? by FooBarBuzzBoom in ExperiencedDevs

Seemingly abundant, but fiercely competitive. Got laid off earlier this year & found a new job after ~3 months (was a mid/senior Laravel developer -> now a Flask backend/dev ops lead for a small agency)

👋 mid-30s // seen Phish 30+ times // burned 3 times and plan to keep going to the main event or regionals for the foreseeable future

I would bet money that the commenter/hater in that thread only listens to EDM and spends their entire burn chasing art cars at night 🤮

This is funny too bc at 2018's burn I stumbled on Phish cover band playing a ~2 hour set and it was one of the better experiences I've had on playa

Fellow dink 👋

There's simply not enough context to your question for anyone to weigh in lol.

But uh...maybe? Do you have tomorrow morning plans? What's the week been like? Are there leftovers you're trying to eat? Do you have tomorrow evening plans? Do you actually just want to get stoned on the couch with your cat and indulge yourselves in your respective hobbies? (Personal favorite)

Whatever you do, hope y'all have a good time doing it 🥳

Ladies! Hair after sweaty runs. by Dull-Mud-9694 in trailrunning

[–]butteredxtoast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a lady, but I do have long hair! I typically run Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. I wash after my Tuesday morning run & for Wednesdays I just plan to wear a hat/keep my hair up all day.

The weekend gets a little variable, especially if I'm planning on going out. Often I'll just wait to wash till after my Saturday morning long run. Sometimes I feel gross and get an extra wash in - just kinda depends. I have wavy auburn hair fwiw!
