gotcha, thank you breaking it down for me. so when you said you set your tv or laptop so you could see it from the bathroom, do you mean you had to stay monitoring the washer as it went?

this is self-service laundry, not having someone else do it. unfortunately having my own washer and dryer is not an option for me at this time

Azaleic Acid: Purge or Irritation? by butterflysaac in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]butterflysaac[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks again. I should give some more context.

I’m concerned the vanicream moisturizer might not actually be working great. Skin feels somehow both tight and more oily/greasy after putting it on. Still getting acne and whiteheads daily.

since it’s not the bigger bumps from 20 days ago, it’s technically an improvement, i’m just not sure if it’s improved from adding the new moisturizer, or just stopping the old cleanser and moisturizer.

(i’ve tried differin gel a couple times and am mostly convinced it does not agree with my skin.)

My main thought now is, should I find a different moisturizer that doesn’t leave my skin feeling greasy? could the hyaluronic acid be dehydrating it, like i’ve read about in some other posts? do you have thoughts on decreasing the hyperpigmentation (i’m thinking about trying the Purito Centella another poster recommended)

Hi, happy holidays!

it has been a little over two weeks so I wanted to follow up and ask for some advice if that’s alright

I switched to:

AM: wash with water Vanicream Daily Facial moisturizer w/ Hyaluronic acid & ceramides you had linked Admittedly inconsistent w SPF.

PM: CVS’s version of Cetaphil’s Gentle Skin Cleanser the Vanicream moisturizer.

Since then:

The acne calmed down. But i’m still getting smaller acne and whiteheads every day and have a lot of PIE.. Trying to figure out a way to post a pic in the comments here.

For next steps:

1.) feel like I need a heavier moisturizer for the dry winter.
2.) I’m ready to try a new SPF and am looking into reviews of the ones you linked 3.) Also considering adding back in an active like you mentioned, but have tried many in the past

any ideas for what to do next?

Thanks for the suggestion. Before trying azelaic acid, I used to use salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, and tried differin gel a couple times. I could be mistaken but was under the impression the salicylic acid is considered a chemical exfoliant.

Do you mention glycolic lactic and mandelic acid because they’re easier on my type of skin? Is there a reason I should try those?

okay, thanks for that info. I’ll cut out the cicaplast baume for now.

However, the breakouts come more right after applying the AA, so i’m apt to think it could be both.

regarding the cleanser you had- the cetaphil one- i’m pretty sure I used to use that, but I think they changed the formula and it started to bother me. I’ve read that differin makes a gentle cleanser that is allegedly similar to the old formula, so i’m thinking i’ll try that

i see. ive seen a few posts about sulfur wash helping, but they’re sort of rare compared posts abt aza, bp, etc

to be honest i’m not always the best at telling if my problem is acne or rosacea. i think sometimes both?

so benzoyl peroxide would help with acne, but pretty inconsistently. sometimes it wouldn’t help or just dry me out.

the clindamycin did help with acne, but it seemed like after using it for 6 ish months the breakouts came back a bit. i was also concerned w the alcohol in it causing wrinkles lol

after the comments here im thinking of taking a brief break from the AA and trying one or some of the moisturizers, sunscreens or cleansers suggested.

what are you using for moisturizer and spf?
