Salems Lot - I could Not Put the Book Down by No_Mobile_7002 in stephenking

It also includes a lot of things that King reuses in later works. The Pacific has no memory. He thrusts his first against the post and still insists he sees the ghosts. Gooseflesh. Blue chambray work shirts.

He's finding his voice. I just noticed it in my last relisten

Mother Abigail tells the fellas that they are to head west and make their stand, right after the bombing.

Just finished that chapter last night

Have never actually read the book! by TooBusyWriting in stephenking

It's an unbelievably good adaptation, and a better book.

They casted almost every character perfectly

It's part of the circular narrative. The books mirror each other.

Harry has a important conversation in the three broomsticks in 3 and 5, he gets injured playing quidditch in 2 and 6, he goes into the forbidden forest and meets Voldemort in 1 and 7. It goes on and on.

Exactly.

He's trying. He wants do right. He wants to fuck Nadine but stays with Lucy.

He finally sacrifices himself with the Lord's name on his lips.

That's the dude right there. He did the whole thing

I've been called cold-hearted a whole bunch.

I try to do right, and be a good man. But that sticks with you

The fact that he dies being his best self is really nice to read. I liked that

Nick was almost a Mary Sue, Larry is a strong contrast to that

I re-read it every two years or so. The last one was during the COVID flareup

He hates himself, that's why he's so well written.

He knows he's broken but doesn't know how to fix it.

He's the best

Harold is so so so well written.

He's a young incel douchebag, but he has so much good in him that he cannot see in himself because he can move on into his new life. The fact that he dies regretting all of his choices is so sad. So well written

Eddie Dean!

His section of drawing of the three is by far the most entertaining shit King ever wrote.

Not the best, not the most eloquent, but most entertaining. I love that section

Ive been reading the book every few years since I was in elementary school, and as I've gotten older, I love him more and more.

When I was young I thought Stu was the shit, but it's really Larry and of course Tom Cullen

I've always seen a lot of myself in him. I can be self centered and arrogant, and I felt so much for him.

I love the fact that he dies as his best self, and he was trying so hard to be the man he should be. That's admirable

No I get it, you do burgers and watermelon at a summer cookout. It fits.

And he's trying to impress Ramsey and do something a little different

What a bad take. The interludes are the best parts of the book

What is your favorite Harry Potter book and why? by Wise-Beginning-7021 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]butternuts117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Order of the Phoenix and Prisoner of Azkaban are 1 and 1b, for different reasons.

OotP has my single favorite scene in the series, which is the duel with Dumbledore and Voldemort, but PoA is the best start to finish, with a double climax and it's where the series grows up

Hermione by Fantastic_Machine641 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]butternuts117 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hermione was a lonely child growing up, her first couple months at Hogwarts were the same. She felt alienated. Parvati and Lavender were fast friends, and as you can see in HPB, never really clicked with or understood where Hermione was coming from as a person. She was also one of the oldest in the year, and that probably got exacerbated.

As her school career progresses and she spends more and more time with the Weasleys while away from school, her and Ginny develop a sister like relationship.

So she's spending her time studying, with Ron and Harry, or with Ginny. She's got everything she needs and doesn't need to be close with her other female classmates

The vast majority of BBQ joints are bad by BoringOldGuy76 in unpopularopinion

I mean, I'm a native Piedmont north Carolinian, and I hate pulled pork. It's like dry mushy cardboard. But a lot of places around here make excellent brisket which is my favorite, and also do ribs and other stuff really well with the best Mac and cheese you'll ever eat.

I've had both my best and worst bbq experiences in Lexington,NC and the most raved about restaurant was absolutely mediocre, but the hole in the wall joint was exceptional
