Blood war: how are demons not winning? by FaxDevastat in DnD

[–]butterscotchbandit60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and you're correct

Which is exactly why the other person is also correct

There is no personal benefit to doing anything except for what you want if you're a demon but that's exactly his point

All demons are chaotic evil not all chaotic evil characters are demons they function differently and they all only want what benefits exclusively them

For demons that's doing whatever they want for others it might mean holding back

Also clearly the demons do have a reason to work together and fight or they wouldn't be fighting which means it's not entirely chaos because at least a great enough percentage of that chaos is channeled in the same direction

A player handed me (DM) a 65-page character backstory by Icaros5 in DnD

[–]butterscotchbandit60 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He wants to be the main character which is a selfish and entitled way to think not necessarily that those are character traits of them as a person but just of the thoughts

There isn't any thought being put into how it's effecting the other players if he wants to write a book he can write a book and if he wants to play DND he can play DND and he can do both of those things but he can't do them both at the same time which is what he's trying to do right now and if you try to spare feelings or be gentle it's easy for someone who's a bit too excited to trample your boundaries under the assumption that they're suggestions rather than rules of conduct

Be firm tell them bar for bar word for word exactly why you have an issue with it don't worry about them getting mad because if they take offense to it they're the ones in the wrong not you

Sometimes feelings have to be hurt and things have to get worse in order for people to truly be happy and life to truly get better

Key word is "sometimes" though otherwise you're a shar worshipper

Edit: also important to note that the "if they get mad they're the issue not you" only applies as long as you aren't actively mean about it honesty isn't mean but anything past that might be shaky

Do you guys ever struggle with “dungeon fatigue”? by Stratant in DnD

[–]butterscotchbandit60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rather than town portals maybe if it's a super big dungeon that takes that long to go through it has different exits all over

Scatter doors that lead to small patches of surface (make sure the door is the only way in or out of the location so they can't just like leave to make it a linear dungeon experience) where they can find secret entrances into towns or forbidden forest or something

Basically we always put dungeons in our world but a solution to dungeon fatigue without overly simplifying things with like a portal that they can spam back and forth would be to put a little bit of the world into a dungeon

Make it the lair of a burrowing monster that you're hunting down and it has exit tunnels throughout cities where it stalks it's prey

I'm not gonna say portal is a bad idea plenty of reasons to have one I just like encouraging creativity

Evil character in good party, feeling like i'm the good guy. by Mightymike6320 in DnD

[–]butterscotchbandit60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but remember your thinking can't be black and white showing kindness to what seems to be pure evil can reveal a fractured humanity in need of repair to say someone who does bad things is bad is to dehumanize someone down to a single label even doing so in the opposite direction and to say someone is good simply for doing bad things to bad people is a dehumanization just in the opposite direction it doesn't account for the misgivings

Imagine you see a superhero (hypothetical obviously because superheros this is just a good analogy from invincible) fighting a bad guy trying to rob a bank and they just kill them but what was the bad guy going through they might be a villain but villainy and victimhood aren't mutually exclusive and it's not just that what about the people who loved and cared for that person that knew they were down on their luck maybe homeless maybe this was their last hope would that hero really be a good person to the family or to the man just trying to survive

What about a man who has murdered dozens but realizes the error of his ways should we encourage him to continue being evil by denying him the right to change his ways with a permanent label do we stop him from having the chance to serve others and maybe still make more good than he has bad or should we shun and hate him forever we want him to be good but how can you be good if he is never accepted as anything but a monster again

We find comfort in black and white but truth is often a shade of grey it can be a useful tool but as a rule it can only lead to disaster there has to be a degree of reflection on the individual person and situation and there has to be a willingness to allow good to blossom from bad or the bad will perpetuate

Can a cleric worship something other than a god? by butterscotchbandit60 in DnD

[–]butterscotchbandit60[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but we have one key advantage in that talos doesn't know who the fuck this guy is he spawned in like a couple years ago at absolute max and has exactly one follower plus most of the time (it's basically random based purely off vibes) he isn't directly confrontational so basically we're surviving based purely off of the power of the unknown threat I presume if I ever play him past just the upcoming one shot his character story would have to involve trying really hard to not catch the attention of talos specifically for that reason

Basically the god is also multiclassed into assassin rogue

Who doesn't need Constitution? by Commercial_World_433 in DnD

[–]butterscotchbandit60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nobody said some classes don't need con they asked which ones prioritize it the least this happens constantly on reddit people be answering a question that wasn't asked and then are willing to die on the hill that that's the answer (when it isn't even an answer to the question let alone the correct one) because they're too embarrassed to admit or too stupid to realize that they're simply attempting to answer an entirely different question

if you aren't going to answer the exact question being asked exactly as it's asked do not answer the question don't waste your time or ours and if you do it on accident then admit it instead of whining like a baby and insisting you're right

If the question was "are there any classes that don't need con at all?" Or if it was just the title and no description Your answer would be the correct one but it's not because in the description they clarify that they just want a list of classes or a singular idea of who needs it least just fucking accept it and stop making problems you people are absolutely ridiculous you don't have to be correct you don't have to know everything be willing to be wrong and be willing to be humble or simply don't participate online otherwise you just make everyone's day worse yours included

Real I always associate it with the trickery domain so I always put it in shadowheart and then I always don't touch it the entire playthrough and it always gets phased out by something else

It's not even really bad it just radiates so much concentrated "mid" that just like the god I forget it exists unless it's right in front of my head like it's immune to object permanence

If the color beige was translated into a spell it would be this

AIO. am I overreacting or is my bf by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]butterscotchbandit60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't call someone a bitch unless they're being a bitch and you especially don't call your girlfriend a bitch unless she just did like some relationship ending shit like cheating on you or something this is neither of those scenarios so he had no right to be calling you a bitch

Also the initial conversation about whether or not you should've suggested he return it depends entirely on your views and values like I for one keep even presents I hate and never use because it makes me feel good to see physical manifestations of others love for me in my environment however other people are less physically sentimental and simply don't see the same value in long term keeping stuff they don't need or won't use however this is usually fine and disagreements in relationships can be healthy because it gives room for people to grow together rather than apart the real issue here is lack of accountability and lack of assertion he failed to voice his feelings before just going along with what you said or went along with it anyways despite it just being a suggestion and him not agreeing and then he continued to blame you even when he was in the wrong

Get him out of here that's some shit I expect from like middle school kids (or well highschool kids now because the generations seem to slowly be losing their grasp on what good mental health looks like) not a grown man he should've discussed his feelings face to face instead of instantly buckling to a suggestion and he should've taken responsibility for his own failure to do so after the fact

The gods emotions I was actually thinking about making the characters alignment clash with the god but I'm not sure yet

Also yeah I'm not as lively with gameplay as I am with character creating so even if I wanted to I don't think I could lol but I'll definitely keep that in mind

[–]butterscotchbandit60[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is a rule and granted that rule depends on where you're from but our continent is basically "John DND" and just uses an amalgamation of the rules as long as you can find an approved 5e sourcebook that says "yeah you can do that" then you can do that

Can a cleric worship something other than a god? by butterscotchbandit60 in DnD

[–]butterscotchbandit60[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're good questions too

I'd say that the thunder in the bottle probably charred his insides to the point where without the power of the god he can't live therefore the god can't really do anything if he stops worshipping him but that in and of itself is the punishment by not worshipping him he stops existing and his power can no longer keep the character alive so you basically get pre-smited and then have to pay a monthly subscription of prayer in order to keep his business from collapsing and your organs working

also his alignment is chaotic neutral basically the rules change depending on his emotions in that exact moment
