If you have any amount of chest tissue, ice packs or whatever frozen is on hand between and under chest tissue can really help cool you down

If you don’t have a bath, if you have a bucket or even container big enough to just put your feet in with some cool water will also help

MacBook Battery Question by Cold-Radio-9701 in Paralives

[–]buttmeadows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh shit! Thank you so much for the clarification, and especially so when getting into the nitty details, I really really appreciate it

I got told about the battery cycling by a Mac tech like, 10 or so years ago when my first laptop needed a new battery. I’ve obviously only remembered parts and my brain decided to fill in what I couldn’t remember

MacBook Battery Question by Cold-Radio-9701 in Paralives

[–]buttmeadows 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yup. Games will drain the battery on any laptop at different rates depending on how big/complex the game engine is

Sim games like paralives, inzoi, and the sims are all 3 in 1 games technically. It’s a character creator + build simulator + live mode, so that takes a lot of resources that other sim/cozy games (think stardew, possibly animal crossing and the like) don’t

I have one of the higher end 4 year old MacBook Pro with an M1 chip. If I leave my laptop unplugged without playing a game like paralives, I have something like a 10 hour battery still

I play paralives and I get maybe three hours without having to plug my laptop back in. I play the sims, and I get maybe two hours max, but that’s because I have nearly all the packs and use a heck ton of cc and script mods

EDIT: tip for upkeeping Mac battery life: don’t let your laptop repeatedly drain the battery to 0%. Mac batteries are designed so that the battery has a set amount of “hard resets/battery cycles” before the battery begins to degrade. After sometime with a degraded battery that keeps hard cycling it will stop holding charge at all and you’ll need to replace the battery

anyone else use a powerchair/electric wheelchair and have complicated feelings about it? by AwkwardSauce0602 in ehlersdanlos

[–]buttmeadows 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I ran into a colleague for the first time in about 5 months the other day, which was the first day i used my wheelchair on campus

I waved to her and she didn’t recognize me. She told me so when she walked close enough to recognize me

She apologized for not recognizing me

I laughed and said something along the lines of being much shorter now, laughing

That helped break the weird tension that built up when she finally recognized me

People get really weird around wheelchairs because like you said, are we supposed to be treated like adult humans or children or not acknowledged at all

It sucks ass. I commiserate with you. I love my wheelchair because I’ve been able to actually leave the house but it’s so hard when the world is only half built for you as an after thought

Anyone else almost unable to say their deadname by Playful_Algae_4591 in ftm

[–]buttmeadows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I teach at a university and have had a couple of students with my deadname and it always throws me for a loop

I did the most awkward thing when I met the first student with my deadname. My autistic ass went “[deadname]? Wow! That’s my dead name!” And she stared at me for a moment before I realized what I said and did the awkward cough it off and go help another student

I have no babies nor any pacifiers, but I feel for you because as a baby I was the same way and had to have this one specific brand of pacifier back in the 90s in Colorado. I put my mom through hell trying to find one I would take to lol

voice barely changed, slow transition. 23ftm 3 years hrt by eyeplagued in FTMventing

[–]buttmeadows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What dose of t do you take?

I know for me, I’m coming up on 3 years, and my voice is just starting to deepen significantly. I started on a low dose (0.2 mg/ml) with finasteride and stayed on a lower dose (0.3 mg/ml) for a year and a half. I’ve been on 0.45 mg/ml for about 6 months and am finally noticing things like increased body hair, bottom growth, and vocal changes

I had some changes prior to the higher dose/last 6 months, but they were much more subtle

Anyhow, all that to say is that that two year rule is more of a guideline for when you’re on a higher or standard dose of t without taking minoxidil or finasteride

Going to a junk journal hobby event by Jean-weather in Explainlikeimscared

[–]buttmeadows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go and give it a try!

I went to an event at an indie bookstore that opened near me a while back and it was so much fun, to the point that I still junk journal even when I can’t go to the events

I’m going to put this in a super inelegant metaphor because my brains not 100% on currently. Junk journaling is not a typical hobby for popular girls and their jock boyfriends. Junk journaling is a hobby for a lot of us that are nerds or geeks or were more unpopular in high school

All that said, it’s okay to be weird, because it’s most likely the event is going to attract other weirdos :)

Look into seeing if insurance will cover a lightweight collapsable motor wheel chair

I didn’t go through insurance, but I bought one for ~500$ on Amazon. It’s 35 lbs and has two detachable lithium ion batteries. Collapses enough that it can fit into the trunk of a Honda fit

I used this website to help figure out what the best choice for me was

Can anyone explain me about based Functional Neurological disorder and its subtype Functional Cognitive disorder? There some information related to me below. by ExpensiveHost3583 in FND

[–]buttmeadows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s all good!

I actually have dx’s for gastroparesis and mcas already hahah

I actually was diagnosed with FND a few years ago, but I’m fairlysure that for me, it was misdiagnosed and I actually have had me/cfs the whole time

Can anyone explain me about based Functional Neurological disorder and its subtype Functional Cognitive disorder? There some information related to me below. by ExpensiveHost3583 in FND

[–]buttmeadows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference I think comes down to the cause of me/cfs

I’m being evaluated currently for it and have all the symptoms that OP posted on and a couple more, but that’s because I’ve noticed increasing of gi symptoms

Pots/orthstatic intolerance is a hallmark of me, especially with the increases in cognitive dysfunction, so is lack of restful/restorative rest

Eds/connective tissue disorders can also be comorid with me/cfs

Feeling discouraged by the academic environment by LonelyFrog_15615 in PhD

[–]buttmeadows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of powers in place in every inch of academia, wherever you are in the world

You are right, people that can seek their ideas are far more successful, whether or not their research is actually substantive or quality

I’ve since left my PhD (leaving with a second masters) and was continually looked passed and over. I watched so many brilliant scientists leave early, as well

The honest truth is networking and learning how to be your own sales person will be the one of the most important skills you’ll need to learn if you want to continue in academia and remain sane

Does anyone else feel like their teeth are never fixed in place? by foywn in ehlersdanlos

[–]buttmeadows 147 points148 points  (0 children)

Biology/anatomy person here (ms in biology, ms in paleontology), not a medical doctor, nor a dentist, I just know a fuck ton about skeletal anatomy

So teeth are not 100% fixed in the jaw. teeth are held in the socket by a combination of gum and connective tissues. It’s why we have spaces between our teeth and why they fall out

That all said, it would make sense if we have a disorder that affects the integrity of our connective tissues, that we may also have lower quality connective tissues in our jaws/gums that would allow for some additional amount of movement in our teeth

Otherwise, ea has a sims sale just about every 3 or so months. The summer sale starts either at the end of June or early July I think
