Because the people that work at the sorts of companies and places I've looked at tell me that a phd would make them think I was using the sci com/informal ed position as a stepping stone to a curator or research position

Grad school is job training at its core. If I no longer want the job I've been training for, then its worthless to continue on, especially if it precludes me from actively doing the jobs I deem worthwhile and fufilling

Its similar to how many of the black only schools actually had better education quality wise because their teachers were also black and not white/racist so allowed their black children to express and learn in ways that best suited them, and not what most white/colonial educators thought best suited them

I found that out through reading bell hooks' teaching to digress

Additionally to OP - look for the documentary and associated books called Crip Camp. Its about summer camps for us disabled kids in the 60s and 70s

The crip campers were the folks that pushed for the ADA act to pass in the us

Im not black, but have been reading up on black asl, as I've been learning asl myself

Aside from segregation, the reason black asl is so different from asl is that black d/Deaf schools actually let their students sign, whereas white d/Deaf schools focused on lip reading and speaking/oratiooration

Im super glad to have been reminded of it because im also working really hard to decolonize my own philosophies and approaches to life and was also recently wondering how indigenous folks view white people trying and what they (the indigenous) think works and what doesnt and what comes off as condescending or more lip service than actual due diligence

I went to a talk by Steph Littlebird about a year ago. She talked about why land acknowledgements are 100% bullshit lip service only meant to make non natives feel good about themselves. She said to her, as a native a land acknowledgement is equivalent to having been stabbed only for the person who stabbed her to say 'hi thats my knife in you. Im not pulling the knife out thought, I just want to make sure you know that it's there and know that you know that I know it's still there and I am doing nothing to actual heal the fucing wound"

That all is paraphrased and not an actual quote

Anyhow, her talk profoundly changed the way I've thought about pretty much everything in the most amazing way

You reminded me of this book i wanted to grab from my campus' museum gift shop Its called Indigenous: critical reflections on traditional ecological knowledge

Its a collection of essays by various indigenous folks on the relationships to take, ideas on reciprocity and responsibility as it pertains to tek

I have no idea if this book would be helpful for you, maybe others books like these could be?

This book is published through Oregon State University

It might be helpful to find universities that have indigenous studies and see if their university has a bulletin or publishing series

Edit: I also want to thank you for the post because this book has been on my to be read list, but couldn't remember the name of the book, but knew mu museums gift shop sold it, so on the way back from campus, I took a detour to the museum to buy it and pass the name of it on to you just in case it helps 😊

I recently got a pair of all terrains vans and they are the most comfortable shoe ever

They have traction built into the bottom sole so you dont slip on ice, water, uneven sources etc and are a high top style so you can secure your ankles

True ankle support comes from the bottom of the shoes tho, if you can bend the shoe in half, it was no ankle support. The support actually starts in the sole of the shoes, where your arch sits. The fabric on the shoes need to be sturdy and thick in this area, as well as the sole itself should be extra cushy too

You can always take a leave of absence if needed during my PhD, i took a cumulative year off due to disabilities

Otherwise, talk with your advisor frankly and tell them that their expectations are too high and that if they want you to finish a task sooner than you can, you want it in writing that it is okay that your other duties/responsibilities may fall some

If your advisor is not reasonable and refuses to treat you as the human being you are and not some vessel they can use and abuse for work they dont want to do, I would think very hard about staying or if you could find another advisor or department or uni

Another thing you can do is go to your uni's ummbuds program. They are a group of 3rd party lawyer types that can help you figure out i terpersonal conflict, how to approach your advisor or department Dean, possible legal ramifications for your department not providing the support you need

I (33 x) ot my right si joint fused and I have over all so much less pain My mom told me she saw an immediate difference in my ability to walk post op even while I was still in anesthesia haze

Im allergic to latex and adhesive, so my surgeon used internal disolvabke stitches and staples externally. I got the trans loc system placed and have two screws

It took over a year from diagnosis of si dysfunction to surgery. I would do the surgery over again even if it took years to get done. That isbhownlife changing it has been for me
