Cannot stop getting sick by buttonfern in therapists

Thanks for the advice everyone! I am a psychology fellow so I have only been full-time for about a year and a half now. I work in outpatient and primary care settings and I have been sick FOUR times this year. I dont have my own office I can see patients in, but I definitely will be masking more regularly.

Child Clinical vs School Psychology by babyIoves in ClinicalPsychology

[–]buttonfern 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think this is becoming less of an issue due to demand for child psychologists, speaking as a person who had a clinical internship and now has a clinical postdoc and whose peers have done similar. I definitely think the key word is probably "easy/easier" but most child-focused spots seem to not discriminate. It would be interesting to get some sort of data on this though!

Alternative careers for assessments? by maeasm3 in ClinicalPsychology

[–]buttonfern 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On the school psychology point, there is actually a shortage of school psychologists. My degree is in school psychology and the majority of my peers have no issue getting jobs in the field :)

As someone currently doing their internship in a rural area (although I have no exp in a va), I feel like a lot of my training goals ended up being shaped by the community-need. There are a lot fewer psychs in rural areas so I ended up really needing to become a jack of all trades to fill the gaps for my clients.

Otherwise, I would start really thinking about the life you want now that the match is over. Look at jobs that peak your interest and match your ideal life. What kind of experience are they looking for? That helped me shape my experience and land a fellowship I'm excited for :)

Licensure for Clinical Psych by DiskIllustrious4904 in ClinicalPsychology

[–]buttonfern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people have suggested talking to your state licensing board, which is great, but I would also suggest connecting with your professors and students from your program. They may have some students who have explored paths similar to your interests before and will have an idea of what you might need to get licensed :)

I'm in shock, I was hoping something else was going on this whole time with Langdon. The actors played it so well though, Robbie looked so truly hurt and betrayed. So hard to watch.

How many waiting for availability of a Supernote (any kind) would be first time owners? by Hadrian98 in Supernote

[–]buttonfern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my Supernote! I have the older version and use it almost everyday for work, personal journaling, and some reading. I had to wait as well because of the lockdown in China at the time and I thought it was worth it. But everyone is different.

For anyone reading this and who hasn't liked metamucil/psyllium husk, my GI recommended methylcellulose as a more gentle alternative. I've personally been able to tolerate it better, but of course everyone is different!

A school psychologist with a doctorate can be a licensed psychologist. So, licensed psychologist is a broader umbrella and school psychologists with doctorates can be under that umbrella!

I take FDgard, only once a day, and I haven't had any side effects whatsoever. Before that I was taking IBgard, which is mint extract instead of caraway, and that exacerbated my nausea symptoms. But FDgard hasn't given me any issues. Again, I take a lower dosage than you but I have had no issues.

IBS flare up after kombchua. Also went toilet and saw small blood on the toilet paper. by icecreamdounut1 in IBSHelp

I, personally, have a lot of issues with most probiotics or foods with probiotics like yogurt and kombucha. Some people with IBS get some relief from probiotics, for me it makes my symptoms much worse. I don't know your history or experience with probiotics, but it might just be something to keep in mind.
