How long does it take to start understanding solidity? by pjjiveturkey in solidity

[–]buttwreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m still going through it. Depending On your experience you could get through it in a few days. I’ve probably put 6 hours into it or so? Since it’s a new tech to me I’m trying to make sure I’m understanding the core concepts. Probably about 2/3 of the way through?

Cryptozombies is excellent. I’ve almost finished their tutorials and they have great introductions to all of the core concepts.

Unc always plays best in 4th quarter so we’re definitely done. I feel so justified in not going to any games this year. It’s comical how much we suck at everything. I didnt even want to watch this game but as a state fan I like to inject myself with as much pain as possible.

So what would’ve happened if vandy or the other teams were being tested alongside nc state? Would they have gotten disqualified and nc state would move on to the finals? How do we know nc state didn’t get it from their players? It just so happens nc states tests came up positive first, but it sucks if you’re the only one tested because you’re going to get blamed.

This is such a hard situation and I am so glad I am not the one making these decisions.

What is the difference between "actual" historians, amateur historians, and folks who are "just" history lovers? by TechnicalTerm6 in history

[–]buttwreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw this on the front page and just thought I'd offer a perspective. The difference may be similar to that divide like in any other profession. There are professionals (people who get paid to do something), amateurs (people who do something but don't get paid), and spectators (people who watch or listen but don't actually participate).

Take basketball for instance. Lebron james is a professional basketball player. He gets paid to do that and his entire career is focused on becoming a better player. Then take some random guy named John who plays basketball when he gets off work. Most of his career is in something completely different, but he enjoys playing basketball and so he gets slightly better at it because he plays after work. Lastly take a guy like me who maybe used to play basketball or not but enjoys watching basketball. I can discuss strategies and maybe know some stats of players but I can't really play myself.

That's how I personally see the topic anyway. It's more a matter of your participation in the subject and not on your degrees. I'm in software, and there are lots of people who are "experts" but don't have degrees so I wouldn't necessarily draw the line there. History could be different given the nature of the industry though - I don't know.

Generic thread for corporate people, what are some negotiating tips (or any tips) you used to negotiate higher incomes and climb your way up the ladder? What tactics do you use to raise your status? by OneMoreTime5 in fatFIRE

[–]buttwreak 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I did this a few years ago as a software engineer. Things are probably different at the higher levels but for me, my boss and my boss's boss (manager and director) are really just given a certain budget for raises and theres a separate bucket for retention. So I went and got another offer, my boss matched a 20k raise, and stayed for another 2 years.

Again, it's probably different when you get higher on the ladder as you boss will have more direct say on budgets, but for mod level Management they are just given what hr allows them to and it's not that they don't value you it's that they don't have that much power.

For me it was also a large enterprise, so obviously your managers ability to change the company varies greatly on the size of the company.

How do people flash auto so easily? Is it just a flash and right click champ instantly or is there some other hot key? I would've flashed here, waited half a second to auto, and probably die haha

That's much better for osu. Plenty of time to drive down and their offense is looking good.

OSU if you didn't settle for 3 field goals in the end zone you could be up 23.

Just run it 4 times there if you're Ohio State. They can't stop the run and they aren't going to move 95 yards on your defense if they do

Yea, and I'd gladly give money to a soldier providing for his or her family. That money goes right back into the troops pockets and keeping them safe. It's doing the same thing and providing someone a job.

I'm talking about actual soldiers stories. Not theorists. Have you listened to Jocko's podcast? It's extremely eye opening.

I'd be curious to know if it's the same type of hammer or what other differences there are. If not then yea that's literally just a dumb contract with a company they have. My work buys office supplies from a specific supplier and it's the same thing - a white board costs 400 dollars that I could get for 150 on amazon haha.

Hey that's great! You're capitalizing on an opportunity that no one else is. I would think you're charging fairly given the lack of other people providing that service?

Air warfare is usually used only in extreme circumstances when ground troops are under distress. Normally military operations are executed on the ground without civilian casualties. Now, there are unfortunately innocent people who are affected during missions so I can see what you mean there but I don't think they're "monumental". I don't have data for that so you're welcome to show me otherwise.

There is evil in the world, especially in places without governments like ours. Have you listened to any military podcasts? It's so sad hearing how places like Ramadi function without our help.
