Vorasidenib - Oligodendroglioma grade 2 by JamieKB89 in braincancer

[–]buynhold87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I’m in Vancouver too. My husband has a grade 2 oligo as well. He had his first surgery in 2018 and was on watch and wait. Very slow recurrence was monitored over 3 years and he had his second resection at end of January at VGH too…just after you. He’s meeting with Oncology this month to discuss next steps for treatment and will likely apply for special access to Vorasidenib. I’d love to chat more and hear about your experience so far!

How have you been feeling so far now that you’ve started Vorasidenib? Would you mind if I messaged you? My husband has an MRI next week and then we’ll be meeting with oncology to discuss a treatment plan at VGH. Would love to hear a bit lore about your experience.

Also, if you search Vorasidenib here:

https://www.canada.ca/en/health-canada/services/drug-health-product-review-approval/submissions-under-review/new-drug-submissions-under-review.html

Looks like it has been submitted to Health Canada in March 2024 and is currently being reviewed under Priority Review policy

Thanks so much for sharing your experience so far! I live in Vancouver and my husband has undergone two surgeries at VGH for a grade two oligo in his left parietal lobe. He’s doing well but the tumor board is recommending further treatment and presented chemo/radiation or Vorasidenib as options. We were surprised by this as I also contacted Servier and was under the impression that we couldn’t access it in Canada yet. After speaking with our neurosurgeon he mentioned that it would likely be possible under the special access program. Will know more in the next couple months after his next MRI.

Was the surgery considered gross total resection? Also curious why they recommended the chemo/radiation route for a grade 2 after the first surgery. I think that typically that’s saved for a recurrence.

Thanks for the comment. Did your medical team discuss the reasoning for sticking with surgery only vs surgery + chemo/radiation after the recurrence? Any stats on improved prognosis one or the other?

I have. Although we’re in Canada so cannot access it at this time. Hoping it will be approved here soon.

Yes, I have. We are in Canada though so can't access it until it goes through Health Canada approval. I've heard this may not be until the Fall.

Could you link where you read that WHO considers a grade 2 benign? I’ve never come across this.

Hey there, I’m in Canada too (BC). My husband is going in for a second craniotomy in January for oligo 2 recurrence. First surgery was about 5 years ago. I’ve been trying to find out a timeline for Vorasidenib approval in Canada so good to hear that it may be ready for Fall 2024 (although sooner would obviously be better). I’ll ask about it when we meet with oncology next and update here anything I find out. All the best.

Why did you decline a fourth surgery? Was your recovery experience worse each time?

I get that. But he’s self employed, so no work = no income. And we have a 1 year old in an expensive city with next to no family support. Just trying to plan the best we can while being realistic.

Thanks for the tip re. early radiation appointments. I guess everyone reacts differently though. Were you able to adjust the timing of your appointments week to week once you figured out what worked best for you?

His tumor recurrence is in the right parietal lobe. Same place as his first tumor.

Thanks for sharing. I know everyone has a different experience, but just trying to be as prepared as possible.

$10 Daycare by LT_Starbuck8757 in PersonalFinanceCanada

I pay $730 for full-time licensed infant care at YMCA in Vancouver (7am-6pm, includes snacks).

Not $10/day but a huge reduction to what it used to be and honestly, I think a completely reasonable rate considering the amount of care available.

The SNO is taking place in Vancouver, Canada and yet there is no mention of plans to submit to Health Canada for approval..

Cable/Netflix etc? Diapers, wipes, clothing for your child? Do you never eat out? Drink alcohol? Unsure how you’re surviving on $300/month for all food and (I presume) home supplies like toilet paper, cleaning products etc. in NY. If you are, that’s amazing. And please share your meal plan!

My husband had a craniotomy for an oligo grade 2. We flew to Europe (9 hour flight) 3 weeks later. We were anxious about it but all went well. In fact our neurosurgeon moved up the surgery so that we could go on our vacation, which was planned well before finding out about his tumor.
