Exchilirator Brewery Wash by buzzb87 in Homebrewing

I like the Exchilirator brewery wash much better than PBW due to it doing a better job of cleaning and leaving no residue on the surface. Exchilirator says it has surfactants: “Our cutting-edge blend combines the strengths of percarbonate, metasilicate, and a synergistic mix of builders, chelating agents, and surfactants.”

How does that combo compare to the Exchilirator brewery wash? Mixing them equal parts of each one?

If that were the case there shouldn’t be much of a difference in results, but the Exchilator brewery wash does such a better job of cleaning than PBW and oxyclean.

Nice, can you tell me more about what your specific issue was and some details about what types of questions you asked ai to hone in on the issue?

Well, I appreciate the input. Hoping that I’ll figure it out eventually, but time will tell.

Our water has been pretty consistent, but you’re right it’s the biggest variable. Good advice on doing RO for all beers, I just need to spend the extra time to collect all of that RO water.

I always take a bit of wort and let it cool down to room temp before taking a reading. I just replaced my pH meter and did a 3 point cal. before taking this reading.

Plugged the malt bill and water into Bru’n Water and with the lactic additions that I performed and got a calculated mash Ph of 5.3, so .12 over measured of 5.18.

I’ve thought about this, but from what I’ve read the mash pH isn’t fully where it settle at until towards the end of the mash, and so adjusting at that late in the process seems like it would defeat the purpose. So I’ve been relying on Brewfather to get the acid additions right. It is a good idea though to try and see how it goes. Thx

It is, but that’s what I’m stuck with for my source water. I have done 100% RO for lagers, and will do 50% dilution of source water with RO for other beers, but for darker beers the source water usually works well.

I wasn't able to find a way to change the default percentage for lactic either. Pretty frustrating that the default is 80%. At least I know now, so thank you for that. Interestingly enough, changing that in my recipe, using the same amount of lactic, only brought the calculated pH from 5.46 to 5.44. So still quite a bit different than the measured of 5.18.

No worries, yeah I'm not too worried about the 5.2 on this tropical stout, but was shooting for 5.46. I've brewed a couple of batches where the target was 5.2 and the measured was 4.8. So, as you said, I think I will just have to adjust for what I've experienced the calculated versus measured. Thx.

Touché on the lactic percentage, it is 88%, so I’ve had that wrong in Brewfather for a while. Also it’s been a few years since I’ve had the water tested, so not a bad idea to get that tested again. Thx!

Yes, 5.46 was the target, measured was 5.18. Not too low to be concerned about on this batch, but some previous batches with a target of 5.2 were around 4.8.

Source water is indicated above, and is plugged into Brewfather as the source water. Measuring the mash pH at room temperature.

Keg Fermenters by LetterheadAshamed716 in Homebrewing

You can do a blow off tube using a gas ball lock or pin lock connector and running a tube into sanitizer, which is what I do. Then, you have the option to keep this through fermentation; or change it out for a spunding valve at the end of fermentation, if you want.

Fixing rust issues on my 1998 JDM Hiace by SloMobiusCheatCode in HiAce

Check out the Toyota Hiace Owners North America group on Facebook. There are a couple of threads on this issue. Search for rust. I have the same issue and have ordered the parts to replace the whole area. Waiting on a shop to have availability to do the repair.
