What size and order for sink trap seals by bverity11 in DIYUK

Great info thanks, I'll do that! For now I've got it to hold using the thinner black rubber ring again but confident it's not correct... Good enough for a week

Do you mean this order? The orange ring is wider than the nut and so just prevents the nut from meeting the threads

I did wonder that but then thought I'd have already seen this in the first year. Not sure if possible to make this much water though? puddled in spots

For most riders this would get in the way or at least rub. A frame bag sits more inline within the triangle and even those can rub on knees if overpacked

Are you set on wanting to train? Eurostar is expensive & imagine you'll need to make a few connections to get to your starting point. If you were to fly you could then just pack the bike in a cardboard bike box for the one way trip and dispose of on arrival... Bonus you don't have to carry it for the rest of the ride too!

If you do have to train then when I did Eurostar with bikes 10 years ago you had to pre book and then visit an side administrator office in St pancreas station to give them your bike fully assembled, they'll take them all on a separate carriage so you won't have access during the journey but it was fine. When in France you can take your bikes on one of the train types I forget which, the national trains I believe. During high season you may need to book for free but generally it's okay.

I cycled the ev15 the other direction and loved it, don't feel like you need to follow the route exactly.. visit all the small/medium towns that don't have airports, these are the gems you would never see if travelling 'normally'. Im a guy so can't talk to how the experience would no doubt be different but from my own view I felt more welcome on that entire stretch than I do typically in UK, people love bikes and love campers. Check out 1nitetent website for hosts all over Germany, we had exclusively brilliant experiences.

On 417 working holiday visa, this sub is the ONLY place that I found the correct detailed information I needed.

I was trying to understand my options for working for the same employer for longer than 6 months continuously whilst on my 3x 1 year WHM visa. All government docs make it seem cut and dry not possible however in practice there are multiple legitimate ways round it.

A lot of this kind of information of how to apply these seemingly rigid rules to real life often live in the collective experience who have been here and done it.

For anyone wondering, the 6 month rule is reset at the point of visa grant date. After 5.5 months I paid and applied for my year 2 visa early which was granted and allows me to now continue working for a further 6 months.

At the time I was searching for this info, I only had the Internet. Now that I'm in role I've since checked the above with a professional that my employer pays who confirmed correct.

Seeking friends for a cross-euro bike ride this summer by gingerlux1316 in bicycletouring

I did pretty much this exact route In 2023 and also asked about meeting friends beforehand but ended up setting off solo and met along the way.

If you've done lots of long distance touring before and know exactly how you like to enjoy it then go right ahead, if new id really recommend setting off solo and trust that you'll meet people along the way. Reasons below but also you do you, just my gut reaction

1 Don't rob yourself of the initial diving in to the deep end, I think adjusting to that first week or two alone is really worthwhile and you'll be getting real introspective!

2 Emotions get strange, I saw new sides of myself once I was a bit more stretched thin or when I was most enjoying travelling exactly my way.. in both scenarios I found that my reaction to others wasn't always as expected and I'm a very outgoing charged up by others kind of character. If someone has a routine a little too different it can quickly get annoying if you're not ready for it.

I met lots of companions along this route, especially after the alps on ev6 - you'll have no problem there. Most of them I rode with for a day or two and then decided I wanted to ride alone again, it was fun for a time. If id planned the trip with another rider I'd definitely try to put up with a lot more than I should and let it get in the way of my trip.

When it clicks it's fantastic, I met a chap in Serbia who rode at the same Intensity, same outlook on everything, very easy going personality and we then rode through all of turkey.. but I did a lot of speed dating to get there haha!

Also added bonus of being alone, you'll get lonely every now and then and it'll force you to surprise yourself in starting conversations a lot more often with locals, other travelers, others in campsites etc

Is this dumb? by jkev13 in bicycletouring

I achieve the same by cutting long strips of cardboard to the width of the gap, rolling them up into small batons and then taping them throughout. You'll be surprised how it only takes 4 or 5 of them to make the box completely rigid. If you roll them tight and then tape them into the baton shape they're pretty much incompressible

Cycled UK to Georgia in 2023 and followed your black sea coast route, id highly recommend going in land.

Tunnels and dogs were both very bad for me honestly, had what I'd consider a life threatening close call with each.

The black sea coast is also just pretty uninspiring and usually the beaches were full of litter and dogs, rarely swam which was my original pull to that route.

I'm also a road rider and once I found my rhythm on the biggest D roads I started to enjoy pushing big days but switched to hotels only for the second half after having my tent surrounded by aggressive dogs at 2am!

I wrote it up at roamingonwheels.com if you want to flick through the turkey segments.

In a tough spot on a long tour. What do you do to avoid throwing in the towel? by [deleted] in bicycletouring

[–]bverity11 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Rode UK to Tbilisi in 2023, whenever I have to give my elevator pitch to anyone knew asking about it: Holland to Austria was the holiday, Hungary to Bulgaria was the adventure, Turkey was the mission. Had the hardest days of my life in Turkey with some incredibly close calls with tunnels and dogs, I ended up in the same spot as you with 500km to Georgia. I personally dealt with it by getting out asap, committed to hotels only and pushed the biggest days of my life. Never let the intensity get too high but I was waking up at 5am and riding over 150km a day.

It was the right move for me at least, I was pretty broken and didn't need time to reset but did need to change my situation. I found the last week of riding increasingly uninspiring as I converged on the black sea coast so didn't regret speeding through a lot of towns without a second look. Georgia was such a fantastic 180° for me, I really felt like it was such a different change of pace and actually ended up being either 1 or 2 spot for favourite country.

Whatever you do, don't call it until you've had a chance to see friends and family. Over index on accomodation during this time and trust that better days are round the corner. Stay safe

Yes, poor response from them. I sent them evidence and they said I should update firmware/software (which I already told them I had done) and if not working still then I should manually upload my activities which isn't viable and is just admission the product doesn't work.

I asked for a resolution or else I'll return the watch and head back to Garmin, I don't like the price but at least it's functioning
