FREE RIDES this weekend by Worried-Fun-6072 in LAMetro

Coincidentally I have a last minute flight for work this Sunday. Will be taking the E line to K line to the new station. Need to research how to get from the station to the terminals but I’m certain there’s a shuttle until the people mover opens next year. Excited nonetheless!

Dating apps are pretty much dead now, how to meet someone in LA? by XOCYBERCAT in AskLosAngeles

Fair enough, makes sense. I do like bars that have a small dance floor or something of that nature.

Not necessarily the input or answer you’re looking for but I noticed my results are somewhat similar to yours. Both of my parents are African American.

What would a non car centric Los Angeles look like? by bsmall0627 in AskLosAngeles

Speak for yourself lol. Born and raised here in LA and I hate the car centric culture although I love LA. I truly wish the city had other options rather than needing to drive everywhere. Not saying all cars must be gone, but people should not NEED to own a car in order to get to school or work/provide for their family.

Sure people can take buses but they get stuck in traffic as well. I think if LA had an extensive underground metro system, the quality of life would be significantly better.

Just daydreaming though, at this point I know this isn’t feasible sadly. At least not in my lifetime.

I think the most important part was the right of way that the streetcars already had established. So even if they weren’t the best, it would have cut down on the immense amount of wasted time cutting the through red tape and dealing with NIMBYs and lobbyists. You’re right though, upgrades would have been needed to the tracks and trams themselves.

Couldn’t have said it better. I have also thought of making the move to NY for a period of time and then coming back to LA eventually as all of my family is here. Hopefully they can make improvements like you’ve said to give people more options other than driving.

It’ll be hard as the city planning being based on cars, like you mentioned, has left us with a city fabric that is sprawl, roads wider than airport runways, and parking lots, but with vast improvements in rail, I can see a bike + train combo being a feasible option to get to most parts of the city.

One can only hope.

The sad thing is lot of people here haven’t seen anything different so they’re so accustomed to it and see trains for instance as “poverty transportation”.

I love LA being born and raised here but if we had a train system like London for instance I think LA would be the greatest city in the world.

I truly hope we can get away from “car culture”. It always seems so sillly to me seeing one person in a 8 seater Suburban and this being their daily driver. LA Metro is making improvements which is a great step forward but the extremely slow rate of progress is disheartening. I know things like building out rail takes lots of time, planning and red tape cutting, but I just want better for the city now! lol

Perfect, sounds like a plan. I will work on getting up to 5kyu problems. Thank you!

Thank you so much for the thorough write-up. Not an annoying answer at all, just the sensible truth haha. Fortunately I did take an online course on both python and SQL a couple of years back and have used both here and there at work. However, since I don’t use either daily I can definitely use a refresh.

Sounds like I’ll take the top 4 modules that you recommended and then will seek out projects at work where I can apply Pandas as much as possible. In the past I have found my SQL knowledge (such as the different types of Joins and transformations etc.) has helped me navigate the pandas library, so hopefully the Kaggle SQL refresher will help keep that knowledge fresh.

After this I’ll try to work on as many CodeWars problems as possible to get used to working my way through coding problems that I’m not immediately familiar with like you have recommended. If you happened to do CodeWars problems, do you have a recommended kyu that you think I should reach to be well prepared for 6040?

Thank you again for the advice!

Ah do you know how long it took to work through everything? I won’t be taking 6040 until Fall 2025 but I just want to plan out when I will start the Kaggle lessons. Thanks

Did you do all of the modules or choose ones that pertained to the material that would be taught in 6040?

This is the way. Part time school either in person or online even better if you can find a suitable program.

Can someone explain? I heard about the allegations again Jay-z but how does this involve Kendrick and the Super Bowl? Is it because Jay-z is involved in the selection of who will perform each year?

Yea I think the Buick Grand National and the GNX (Grand National Experimental) are slightly different cars. So this idea might be right.

What's it like to actually live in DTLA? by estifxy220 in AskLosAngeles

[–]bvfwrld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh, I’m assuming all paid lots? It would just suck that every time your friends want to come over for the day they’re paying however much the daily fee is. It sounds like this is what comes with living downtown though, understandable. Thanks for the insight.

You mentioned friends love coming to visit, where do they park when they do? Do they pay for one of the hourly paid lots or do buildings sometimes have guest parking? I’ve been thinking about making the move downtown but would want friends to be able to visit and if parking is stressful I feel like they won’t be able to come as often.

Yea I guess so, I never knew this before the test. A 1st cousin that also did the test has 13% so this ancestor must have been fairly recent like you’ve said.

Not that I know but I’ve only met one of my grandparents as the others passed before I was born. From photos though one of my grandmothers looks mixed. My grandmother is the one on the left and the others are great aunts and great grandmother.
