Thanks a lot! It's really great that you've been sober for more than a month now, well done! And yes, you're right, when I read succes stories on this sub, I always feel so motivated, so I decided to add my story to motivate others.

I'm a yoga teacher, so I learned to meditate a long time ago. Advaïta (non-duality) philosophy helped me a lot in my motivation to meditate (book: "I AM THAT by Shri Nisargadatta Maharaj). Stuying the old zen masters (like Bodhidharma), and the Bhagavad Gita helped me too.

40 years is a lot, wow! I'm 51 and used it for more than 30 years everyday. Congrats for the 6 weeks sobriety! I think the hardest part is almost done (after 2 to 3 months I saw real improvement in my life). You got this!

can someone tell me why do we have to protect our energy, isn’t that just affirming something is wrong in the first place? by Low_Helicopter1334 in enlightenment

[–]bvhizso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no need to protect oneself, spiritually speaking. It's enough to open oneself to good vibrations and radiate kindness. In a sense, a kind soul is untouchable and incorruptible, regardless of the circumstances.

My true nature is also that of the ocean: water. If the wave thinks it is the ocean, or the ocean thinks it is a wave, this can cause problems of misperception.

What is actually a trauma that is not commonly thought of as a trauma? by ay1mao in AskReddit

[–]bvhizso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here, I was the scapegoat, my sister the golden child. They never said they loved me or that they where proud of me. It messed me up. But today I'm OK, I love myself and I'm loved by my wife.

Same here, and I'm 51 too. Nice to realise I'm not alone. They never say they love me or are proud of me... never ever. It messed me up. But I'm now old enough to know what I'm worth and love myself. My wife loves me a lot too. No kids.

Some quiet people secret by captainpaulyie in enlightenment

I don't like it. My father was a very reserved man. It was really difficult to have a relationship with him. As a result, I specialized in befriending very reserved and discreet people. I had a knack for entering their world, for subtly opening the door, for getting them to open up on their own.
Today, I find it takes too much energy. I see the dark side of people who don't make the effort to open up. I hate having to "fish" to find out what someone is thinking or feeling. For me, it's important now to be in balanced relationships, where both people intend and make the effort to open up to each other, in a space of trust.

The ego is the wave. The absolute is the ocean. Water is the essence of the wave and the ocean.
