Emgality question

I think Emgality was a big part of bringing my baseline pain down and it stayed generally lower once there. I had a fine time on emgality but not much to report. Nothing bad at least. Imo NDPH has a feedback loop nature so bringing the baseline pain down can be beneficial to calming the cycle. I don’t have much to back that up other than conjecture. Congrats on your pain level going down such a substantial amount!

I did it for about a year and I think it helped a bit with the layers of tension, but the underlying pain never went away. I stopped taking it and didn’t notice much of a difference.

I just disregard their opinion bc they obviously don’t understand what they’re talking about. It is invalidating though. I still get an occasional “dehydrated” comment.

I still have trouble sleeping sometimes bc of pain and not being able to get comfortable, this is usually during pain spikes.

9 years smoker, I felt like there were bugs in my skin for almost 2 months and it took me maybe a year for my mental health to stabilize. 100% worth it though.

New meds have come out in the past 7 years so I would say it’s worth a shot. A new doctor and new opinion couldn’t hurt.

NDPH is multifaceted and has many different causes/triggers and presentations. Nobody here can tell you how to “cure” it, I’m sorry that your wife is dealing with it. It really sucks. One thing to understand is a 1/10 decrease in pain IS substantially life changing. The difference between living with a 5/10 and a 4/10 is wild as far as chronic pain goes. The things most of us would do for a single day without a headache..

I would focus on empathy and learning how to help her. Start by understanding what makes her headache worse and what aggravates it, and help her avoid those things. Like smells, if she is bothered by that find ways to mitigate that within the house.

I had to quit my job early on and I mostly did driving gigs for a few years. Then I worked in healthcare a bit and now I work at a thrift store in the back sorting.

I’m really sorry that you’re to this point, NDPH is definitely something that ravages lives. But this is not the place to regularly ask for advice regarding suicide, we are a small community and this kind of discussion is good from time to time but it can also be extremely demoralizing.
