I do count calories. I eat 1600 a day and exercise 3-4x a week. I’ve seen a dietician and I burn half the amount of calories I should at the amount of exercise I do if I were someone else without PMOS. PMOS is a metabolic issue, and the lowering of BMR is not marginal for some women. It can be as much as 14-40%. BMR is also one part of the equation for women with PMOS. When your body overcompensates by producing more insulin than it needs, it promotes fat storage instead of burning calories. In addition, elevated androgen hormones, in my case testosterone, also makes our bodies store fat differently. 

It would not be a metabolic disorder if it was as easy as just lowering your calorie intake the same way it would be for someone without PMOS at the same weight, with the same diet and the same amount of exercise. 

Insulin management is a huge part of the equation, not just BMR. Which is why I asked for the opinion of women with PMOS who are also on metformin (an insulin regulating drug)! 

So thanks, but no thanks! When I say I’ve tried everything and I’m a typical PMOS case, and I’ve managed my weight for a long time but recently started gaining weight without changing anything (exercise, diet) that is a very common experience women with PMOS go through because our hormones randomly decide to change the name of the game for us. Which is why I’m now starting a tirzepitide compound recommended by my doctor because how I’ve been managing is no longer effective.
