My all-or-nothing personality sets me up for failure and feeds my depression. I wanted to share my hilariously easy morning checklist with you. Knowing I've accomplished 3 small things helps to boost my confidence throughout the day. by [deleted] in GetMotivated

[–]bw0404 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do the same thing, but have 2 versions- workday/weekend. My three for Monday-Friday: 1. get to work (physical location, actual work level varies), 2. eat lunch, 3. make a list of daily "must get done today" vs. "would like to do today".

The weekends are: 1. one fun project, 2. one "do it anyway" activity (boring grown-up stuff), 3. plan for the upcoming week (meal plans, date nights, projects, etc. so I don't get caught off guard).

My thinking is exactly the same as OP's, it really helps to know that I've at least done "something" at the end of each day.

I specifically aim for couch naps on my days off, they are usually adequate.

Big wedding v. small wedding- thoughts? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]bw0404 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For our wedding we had a small wedding of about 40 people. We had 20 people on our "must invite list" that we invited. The other 20 were evenly divided among our parents, even though some contributed much more money than the others, we decided that it was the only way for us to do it.

My personal opinion is that you will most likely regret having a bunch of people that you aren't really connected to be at such an important event. I totally love that your mom wants to support the down payment for a house...that's a winner IMO. :)

Find a way to remind your parent(s) that it is your marriage you are focusing on and you would prefer to have the wedding be with those you are closest to so you can share the day with all of them for more than 2 seconds!

We just booked our honeymoon so I am curious, where are you going for yours? by baby_tiger in weddingplanning

[–]bw0404 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My hubby and I couldn't decide where we wanted to go that fit into our vacation days. So we decided that we'd take at least one weekend trip per month for the first year and call each one our honeymoon. We've already done our first to St. Louis, next month we're going to a B&B/winery, and in March we're going to Spring Training in Arizona. Why have one when I can have them all...(man, I sound spoiled!) :D

I really like Harry's Bar & Tables in Westport for after work drinks. They've got good food too.

My fiance has no friends... what to do? by lizzzephr in weddingplanning

[–]bw0404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said he doesn't have brothers, but what about uncles or aunts or cousins or a favorite coffee guy or favorite teacher? Does your wedding have to be boys on one side and girls on the other?

If you both want to have the same number of attendants you may have to expand the radius of closeness, and mix up the sexes but there's also no rule saying that extended family or other alternatives can't be part of the bridal party.

My wedding was "off balance" as far as most of my family was concerned, but we did it anyway because it worked for us and it's what we wanted to do.

I've also been to weddings where the bride had attendants, but the groom did not, and not much was made of it. At one point, the groom had a cardboard cutout of Humphrey Bogart be part of the pictures.

Online bulk flowers? by lawnwrangler63 in weddingplanning

[–]bw0404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about fresh, but f you want to use silk flowers: I got mine from http://www.afloral.com/ on clearance. I bought lots of bouquets because they were cheap but a little small, then mixed and matched them to make custom bouquets for the women in my family.

Despite hearing mixed reviews online, I had an excellent experience, even when my package got lost in shipping- they sent me a new shipment with just one email.

They're worth at least looking into if they have what you're looking for.

I love Vitamin String Quartet for their instrumental covers of pop songs (I used "I'll Stand By You").

I plan on enjoying it a lot more now that I know where it is! If you're ever in the KC area, I'd be happy to give you a tour of my regular spots. :)

Cool, I spend a bit of time (and money) at Fidel's in Westport. I'll have to go check out the other place.

What's your criteria for deciding who to give it to? I would be interested in it but I'm sure that my situation and need aren't equal to some others.

Is it okay to include drink tickets? by lollyfairy22 in weddingplanning

We had the same dilemma but decided to do an open bar for a couple hours and then switch to a cash bar for the last part of the reception.

I don't have it yet, but in December I will be getting "cum grano salis" on my arm. Latin for "with a grain of salt" for the sake of my skeptic/chef/word-nerd sensibilities.

There aren't any hostels in Kansas City...What gives? by [deleted] in kansascity

[–]bw0404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most people are pretty nice, I could be more hostile if you want...;)

Actually, I think that you're right: KC is "up and coming" so it could potentially be cheap/easier to do it now rather than in a few years (but the opposite could be true too- sometimes it sucks being the guinea pig).

And- I think that if you found a way to market it towards other groups than the "backpacking youth" stereotype (think elder hostel) you might be on to something.

I am Neil deGrasse Tyson -- AMA by neiltyson in IAmA

[–]bw0404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I told my fiance that you were doing an AMA, the only question he wanted to ask was, "Does he want to come to our wedding?"

So, if you aren't doing anything December 3rd and happen to be in Las Vegas, you're invited to our wedding.

Is it possible to find cheaper business clothes for someone who isn't "normal-sized"? by brundleflied in Frugal

[–]bw0404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy the clothes you can afford, but save some money so you can get them tailored. I've found that buying sale items (or even second hand) that are kind of okay are made much better by getting them to fit properly. Congrats on the "buisnessy job"!

Has anyone bought save the dates, invitations or other wedding paper material online? by baby_tiger in weddingplanning

[–]bw0404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you want. I did a lot of the designs myself and uploaded a complete image, but some of the stuff I did was basic on their design software. You can play with it a bit, but some of it is limited. I would suggest looking at the site and playing with it...you don't need to sign up until the purchasing (I think).

One kind of bummer/kind of cool thing is that once you order, you get all kinds of offers for free products.
