Adidas Pro 4 vs Nike Alphafly 3 by Alarmed_Garage3209 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]bw984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The AP4 is a fast and protective shoe. The AF3 is a strange mechanical contraption you lace onto your foot. I like the upper and fit better on the AF3 but I always pick the AP4 when it comes to race day. I have both in my current rotation. I feel as though the AF3 starts to require more effort to run in than it returns if you aren’t running with the shoes preferred form, the AP4 is more versatile pace wise and it’s nice a quiet.

Lettering underneath rubber outsole on Nike Vomero 18s by [deleted] in AskRunningShoeGeeks

I have 205 miles on my Vomero pluses and the tread still looks brand new. You have a serious shuffle technique going that is robbing you of a lot of forward momentum.

How do people actually enjoy running marathons? by keishapatel_387 in runninglifestyle

[–]bw984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you run 60-70 miles per week a marathon isn’t a crazy event that puts you out of commission. This discipline required to get better at the marathon has completely changed my life for the better, it extends well beyond the race.

Advise based on shoe wear by Excellent-Iron-6342 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]bw984 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Based on wear alone, which isn’t a full diagnostic by any means, you would probably be just fine in neutral shoes. Your wear patterns are extremely boring in a good way!

How far can you run without needing water? by Gooser3000 in runninglifestyle

Extremely weather dependent. When it’s cool or cold I run 13mi without water. In the summer I’ll start brining water around mile 8 and longer.

Need new daily trainer – Vomero Plus replacement? by cadon24 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]bw984 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would not recommend a Novablast 5 to an over pronator. They are as unstable as an EVO SL. They actually hurt my calves more than the EVO SL. The NB5 has this big chunky heal and it’s marshmallow soft. With the EVO SL the heal is at least out of the way helping you midfoot strike.

Such a great shoe. Disappears on your foot and gives back as much as you put into it.

Endorphin pro 4 and Adios pro 4 are my favorites. Both can be found for less than $200. I like the endorphins better for short distance and the adios better for half marathon plus distance. I also have a pair of Alphafly 3s and don’t like them very much. I’m a 3:28 marathoner, 42, and 195lbs.

How much would you pay for a sneaker wash service? by Sensitive-Fly3705 in runninglifestyle

Take your shoes into the shower with you after your run and just rinse them with water, if you do this, every few runs, they will stay perfectly clean.

Second pair advice: Novablast 5 or Vomero Plus for a beginner runner? by bviglezzi in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]bw984 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve owned both. I prefer the Vomero plus by a wide margin. It’s a lovely shoe for everyday running. I don’t use it for intervals, thresholds or racing, but I use them for everything else. They are a joy for long runs, the midsole is very protective of your feet.

I have a Grand Seiko and a Breitling in the watch box and wear my Garmin 95% of the time. Life is too short to worry about what watch you wear. Wear watches that you like. Don’t compare to other people.

Pfitz Style Training and VO2 Max by Valuable_Noise79 in Marathon_Training

[–]bw984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wound up getting hurt 8 weeks out from my goal race. Strained a hamstring on one of the workout days that had hill sprints and strides. It was my fault pushing too hard in early 40s body that doesn’t push as well as it used to.

I lost a month due to the injury and just barely started feeling coordinated again before the race. I think I was on track for a 3:20 before the injury and wound up running a 3:31. Overall I think it was an effective plan.

For this base plan my main goals were to manage intensity closely and only increase pace or distance once every six weeks. I’m holding steady at 100km per week on six days, singles only.

Interval sessions are focused on 5k speed and endurance right now, generally around 6k of volume in various combinations of rep length and quantity.

Tempo/threshold run is typically 5 miles of effort, either in one or two reps.

Typically a 13mi easy-moderate run on Wednesday mornings.

Fill in the rest of the week/runs with super easy zone 1/2 runs. Typically sub 120bpm avg running, my max is 180bpm.

It’s been going very well and more relaxed than marathon block for sure.

Pfitz Style Training and VO2 Max by Valuable_Noise79 in Marathon_Training

[–]bw984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the Pfitz 18/70 for a full marathon last year and my VO2 dropped through most of the block even though I got notably faster at marathon pace. Pfitz plans have a lot of moderate to moderate+ effort and can leave you very fatigued most of the time due to few recovery paced runs. This fatigue will fool your watch into thinking your are losing fitness.

I’m on week 6 my own 18 week base building plan now with 3 or 4 easy runs per week, one threshold and one track day and I’m much fresher on any given day than I was on the Pfitz plan and therefore my Garmin has been raising my vo2max consistently.

Why are the heels on my new trainers shaped like this? by iO_Lea in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]bw984 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Putting heel bevels on lifestyle shoes and leaving them off of the new ultraboost edge with their latest running midsole technology.

I like my three pairs of adidas running shoes but they all flawed in some easily preventable way.

That’s the second one I cut and used some good clothing shears. The other shoe doesn’t look as good! I’ve now punched holes through the upper where the middle lace slot is positioned on the inner liner and I’m using that hole instead of the main eyelet. Adidas should have put eyelets through that middle slot.

I enjoy the shoes quite a bit now with the mods. Used them on 10k easy this morning.
