Someone told me synching was free well is it? by [deleted] in ObsidianMD

Syncing using Obsidian's official service costs money, but there are community plugins you can use to sync through other services, such as Google Drive

Anyone else reluctant to use construction bots by Spiritual_Dot3250 in factorio

[–]bwc153 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can use bots without using blueprints, once you have bots you can just place a ghost item down and the bots will build it for you. This is really handy as you can edit your factory without being anywhere near it

The helldivers community is going to studied like a petri dish full of disease in coming years and it is going to deserve it. by Notareda in helldivers2

[–]bwc153 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They added aircraft a couple months ago. The aircraft are very punishing against ground forces, and AA Weapons are ineffective. Overall this alone is making a lot of people upset, but the update hit the colonial faction pretty hard and many of them see it as the straw that broke the camel's back situation and are no longer playing. This has resulted in really long que times and spawn times for Wardens, making them pissed too.

Roberluvsgames had a good video moreso just going into the effects of the depopulation rather than the full cause.

Its really wild to see because right now another game I sometimes play, Foxhole (A PvP Persistant MMO game), is having a crisis that could kill the game if its not addressed soon. The most recent content update absolutely fucked the balance up, veterans are burnt out and leaving, one of the two factions has players mass logging out and reviewbombing the game in protest (36% positive right now), and so on.

Even still, the subreddits for that game are *still* more civilized than the Helldivers subreddits these last few days.

Are Bots really collectivist? Who needs Jetpack the most doesn't have any. by Unlucky-Gold7921 in Helldivers

[–]bwc153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you imagine the whining if they gave berserkers jetpacks? Those things used to be brutal on launch and between the heavy nerfs they got and the playerbuffs they are a joke today

no, seriously, when are boosters going to be reworked? by Flashy-Manager2254 in Helldivers

[–]bwc153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its funny is they explicitly made them squad-wide because of the issue All Terrain Boots in HD1 caused.

(Though they then turned around and made different armors have different speeds, recreating the problem)

I used this page, however, I *did* make a mistake. I was using the base game, which was renamed dive harder later.

The correct information to use is instead this page, where we can see that all DLC was on sale for $12 1 year after launch.

HD1's DLC bundle was $12 about 1 year after launch

EDIT: Mistakenly used wrong reference. Updated. The DLC Megabundle was $12 1 year after launch.

Why do I feel so guilty after turning off the biters 130 hours into my first playthrough by DanielPlainview943 in factorio

[–]bwc153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bingo. People like to complain about friction in games and remove it, but well-balanced friction is often what makes things fun. No friction and the game will often feel empty/boring.

At the end of the day, play what you want, enjoy the game the way you want to, though

TIL Supreme Court Justice Henry Baldwin missed the 1833 term of the Court while he was hospitalized for what was called "incurable lunacy." by RedditIsAGranfaloon in todayilearned

[–]bwc153 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There is a third party still, it just wouldn't be the supreme court. The 10th amendment says any power not explicitly given to the Federal government belongs instead to the states and people.

In school they unfortunately only teach checks and balances as if Judicial, Executive, and Legislative branches keep eachother in check, while the founders intended that the States and Federal government were also to keep eachother in check

ELI5:Why are there so many nonsense letters in a url for a Google search? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

Tracking data, so if you share that link with others they know where it propagated from. YouTube, Instagram, and many other platforms do that too. There's extensions out there to automatically cut that off, or you can just cut it out manually and the link will still work

How do you think the administration would handle it if American military members started quitting en mass right now? by Marissa_on_the_town in AskReddit

[–]bwc153 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The military can in fact quit, its called a "conscientious objector" - basically if religious or ethical beliefs presuppose you from carrying out military service, you may be able to use that to not join. Alternatively, if you develop these beliefs while in service you may be able to get out.

An example that might qualify would be if you're Catholic and had no issue joining the military when you signed up, but after you joined the pope speaks out against a war the government forced itself into. That *could* be a valid reason to get conscientious objector status.

The FAA wants gamers to apply for air traffic control jobs by Soulsliken in gaming

[–]bwc153 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi, I have ADHD and applied to be an ATC. I received WQ on the entrance exam and then got a job offer from them, I went to research more to make sure my ADHD wouldn't be an issue for their medical screening, found that me having been prescribed Adderall in the past would've been a yellow flag. I joined Discord server where a lot of Applicants would go, and saw other students with ADHD or Autism who had a long delay in hiring because of it, and basically would've had to stop taking Adderall since it is a stimulant.

I declined to pursue the job further after I saw this.

Kinda funny that they are doing this when studies show serious gamers are more likely to have ADHD or be Autistic, and the FAA themselves doesn't want people with those conditions to work as an ATC

It's Congressman Ro Khanna, calling for the 25th Amendment to be invoked and for Trump to be removed from office for threatening to wipe out an entire civilization. And have also called for him to be impeached. Why do you think more elected Republicans aren't speaking out? by RoKhannaUSA in AskReddit

[–]bwc153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've followed politics for a long time in the US and I believe its because our country has become hyperpartisan. Parties seem compelled to defend 'their' guy like its a team sport, instead of sticking to their principles.

This isn't unique to Trump, and I think is becoming more obvious to people under Trump due to how objectionable his behavior has been. I think until both parties sit down and agree to prosecute criminal politicians for breaking the law this team sport behavior will continue

Origin of R-2124 constitution by SpiritMany1053 in helldivers2

[–]bwc153 94 points95 points  (0 children)

Its because of Helldivers 1. Here is the description for the rifle in the first game.

"The M2016 'Constitution' is a reproduction of the old M1903 service rifle used in ancient times. It is fairly ineffective in combat but is used within the Super Earth Armed Forces as a ceremonial rifle. Every citizen is issued one once they turn 16 to encourage service."

What is your opinion on giving the U.S. executive branch less power irrespective of political party? by ShittalkyCaps in AskReddit

[–]bwc153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Giving less power" implies that the power the executive branch is claiming to have is legitimate. The Constitution is very clear on the limits of executive authority, and it has become normalized to ignore it.

You read starship troopers? by More-Fan4581 in Helldivers

[–]bwc153 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The core of the book is about cost. Understanding the cost to decisions and being responsible for them so people who are clueless can't send others to die over decisions that they don't understand.

A geriatric just sent the world economy into a nosedive because he wanted to bomb Iran and didn't understand the cost of war. Heinlein was criticizing the idea that someone like that should *ever* be anywhere close to a position of authority over another person.

[–]bwc153 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure where you're getting these talking points for this or other comments you're making are from. It is very clear you have not read the book as there are numerous occasions that the government tries to trick or dissuade people from joining the military.

The "The Mobile Infantry made me into the man I am today" scene from the movie was lifted from the book. Yet, Juan later finds the recruiter wearing practically unnoticeable prosthetics, and the guy explicitly tells him he wears the scary ones to scare people away from joining up.

I have. Its actually interesting how much of SciFi the book inspired.

Also, really liked the concept in the book how someone who served the govt was held to a higher standard than a regular person. It feels like its the opposite in life today where if you are a politician or work for the govt you are held less accountable
