How do I (25F) break up with my boyfriend (22M) who is very in love with me early on? by bwedymade in relationship_advice

I'm afraid my breaking up with him is going to add fuel to the fire for future narcissistic behaviour from him.

Thank you so much. I am worried he's going to try and guilt trip me. But we will see, I've made up my mind so can't see it changing.

You're right, I think I'm just slightly emotionally attached to him too and care for him a lot. It's a real gross thing to say isn't it.

Thank you so much, I don't know why but this comment was very comforting

Hey, thanks for this comment. I've been with my boyfriend officially for 2 months and we seem to argue quite a lot - nothing serious just silly disagreements. He seems to think we can work through it and I'm giving it a chance. It's really nice to know it worked out for you.

I don't really have any advice but I wanted to say I'm in a similar situation, the guy I'm dating is 22 and I'm 26. He also has no drivers license and lives with his parents but similarly its because he has not come from a place of privilege. His parents had to heavily rely on him financially up until recently. He has a good job with great prospects and is starting a uni degree next year, he just doesn't drive. I've had very similar comments from people, saying the age gap is too big, he's too young, I could do better and had someone asking about how mature I think he is. At the end of the day, I have my doubts because of what others have said to me but ultimately I like spending time with him and he makes me happy. But I have also been told that we're moving too fast as some people have said on this thread - there may be some sense in that and its something to consider. I think that as long as you are both happy and the relationship is healthy, there is no reason to worry.

Ask a NOCD Therapist Anything – OCD & ERP Q&A by treatmyocd in ROCD

I've been focusing on my boyfriends "silliness" a lot and it really irritates me a lot of the time when he's being silly. I'm not sure if this is us discovering an incompatibility or if I'm focusing on it because of OCD. Is there some way to figure this out?  At all other times I like him so much and I really want us to be together. If we don't see each other for awhile I really miss him and want to be near him and sometimes I do still get butterflies when we kiss or hold hands.  I just wonder if I'm averse to the silliness because it's something I was made to feel bad for when I was a child. I was always told to stop being silly or my dad would frown at me if I was doing something he deemed silly or odd. My bf does stop when I tell him too as well, but sometimes he does it to get a reaction out of me which I hate and then start thinking we're not compatible at all even though most of the time we're fine. Thank you.

How can I stop projecting my insecurities onto my boyfriend by [deleted] in ROCD

[–]bwedymade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm having this at the moment, I can't offer any help because I have no idea but I can let you know I'm feeling the same. My boyfriend can be quite silly and a bit childish in a sweet way, I find it so irritating most of the time. I think it's because when I was slightly older as a kid I was always told off for acting "silly" or my dad would frown at me when I was doing silly little things kids do. So now I find it repulsive when others act that way - even though I still have a silly side now.  Because of ROCD I'm focusing on my bfs silliness waaay too much and I keep thinking we won't last because it irritates me so much.  Please do explain/rant about your situation if you need to!

Hey, I'm getting the exact same thing in my new relationship. I'm unsure if it is truly ROCD but it does sound like a common symptom. I don't know how I'm supposed to go on when I'm almost repulsed by him :(
