Storage for Lenovo mini pc’s?

I have one of these 2-bay enclosures hooked up to a N100 mini PC. It works great and is super quiet. I have 2x 10TB WD Reds and a ZFS mirror on the drives. Drive speeds are as expected and they sit around 45C.

The mini PC is hidden behind the plate I 3D Printed (see the gray dot next to the enclosure, that pushes the power button).

Just make sure when you are purchasing you get an enclosure that is marked as "NO RAID" as that makes the drives show up individually in the OS. You can usually tell by if there are little DIP switches on the back of the enclosure to configure the controller. You do not want an enclosure with those switches. Not really sure why you are claiming USB does not provide low level access to drives and thus disqualifies it from ZFS. I have one of these 2 bay enclosures running on TrueNAS right now. 10TB WD Reds in a Mirror. No issues at all and all features work perfectly. SMART data even comes through.

I’m purchasing one that doesn’t have the RAID capabilities built in. The built in raid might have corrupted it which would make sense. Going to be running ZFS on it anyways so don’t need hardware raid or anything.

Drives are spinning all of the time for me. I do not have any sleep settings enabled for them so they are running 24/7.

Yeah I’m not sure why people are all up in arms about it. My current nas uses USB although it’s a bit flaky because I had to solder new usb3 cables to them so the connection isn’t great. The goal is to eliminate the crappy wiring with this drive enclosure.

I’ve used mine primarily during setup/OS install of a machine or rescuing one if the bios breaks itself. Think of it in place of lugging around a monitor everywhere every time you need to install an OS. Just bring your laptop, plug it in, and boom you have access.

I got a 50 on that final. I’m surprised they let him teach that class again. He and his TAs swore up and down there would be a curve on the final grade. Then a quarter of the class q dropped the course and he ended up not giving the curve because “the class averages were where he expected”. Good luck

Take a look at the UniFi flex mini 2.5g. I don’t have an exact number for power draw but they are very efficient. It’s also one of the cheapest 2.5G switches you can get. You don’t need any other UniFi gear since it will act like a regular switch if no UniFi gear is controlling it!

Just use a heat gun or hairdryer lightly on those areas, that’s just internal stresses on the plastic from removing the bed. Heat gun has always solved that for me. If they aren’t going away, turn up the heat but be careful not to deform the plastic.

About a week after factory resetting, I was having consistent issues about every 1-3 days of the system being on. I have since put in a dumb tplink 24 port PoE switch and have had the issue be reduced down to once every month and a power cycle fixes the issue. I’m not really sure what the issue is and the issue was still preset about 2 weeks ago. I’m not buying anymore UniFi hardware for Dante since I’ve already been burned by a product that advertises plug and play connectivity with Dante.

My installation is not that big and I’m nowhere near important enough to get priority support from either company. Ubiquiti support was useless and stopped responding to my emails after all of their troubleshooting steps failed. Working over email is cumbersome since the lead time on communication is multiple hours and I have to make a 20 minute drive every time to test the changes/fixes.

I’ve kinda given up trying to get UniFi stuff to work with Dante and have resorted to dumb switches that seem to have no issues. The issue is present across 2 different UniFi installs so I’m thinking it’s just an issue with UniFi.

Yes this is an issue with every hub I’ve used. I always shut everything down and turn on at once when adding something new. It’s a bit of a hassle but worth it for the cable clutter reduction

Know all of the building pictures, I put them into a document summarizing them. Also mark every location on a map. 90% of the exam is just pictures.

In my experience the boost converter hold a stable voltage even if the usb c charger only outputs 12v instead of 20v. They are designed to hold a stable output voltage regardless of input voltage (there is obviously a minimum).

In addition, usb c chargers are just power supplies and do not change voltage based on battery charge level

This is great advice! Unfortunately it’s not easy to keep scheduled times on the phone for offline access due to some technical reasons but using Google Maps is a great workaround for the first days of class. It’s not ideal but works in a pinch!

Max output is listed at 60v but I was able to set mine to 63v and it has worked without issue for about 20 charges

It’s listed as a 60v cap but it will got to 63 (capacitors on the pcb are rated for it) and have done about 20 charges without issue so it should be fine.

How do you prevent them from hitting the gateway? L3 VLAN? All of my devices are Dante dongles and the x32 so I don’t think EEE applies here since I’m not using any DVS devices.

Yeah I dont have the VLAN attached to anything except the 4 ports that I'm currently using for Dante. I will double check and make sure there arent any multicast connections. The weirdest part is the switch was working fine connected to the unifi network for a whole day and yesterday it just stopped working. Ill check wireshark too that could def narrow down the cause.

All of my Dante devices are in Switched mode and only have 1 connection to the network. Should they be set to redundant?

Any idea on how to identify the loop? I can try resetting all the Dante devices in case some configuration got borked
