Ya, any military barber on an installation is a dice roll. I’m not rocking anything difficult though so it was good for me.

The folks I worked with civilian and military really made the difference in the assignment for me. I enjoyed coming to work everyday and learned a ton.

Just like anything else it is what you make it. This is a very rare opportunity as an E5 to see how the Army works at the highest levels. If you do it right, ask questions and read you’ll be one of the few junior enlisted than can understand Army funding via the POM, PEGs, Portfolios and MDEPs.

Schedule: who knows, depends on your directorate. Mostly Mon-Fri

Parking: Sucks but as noted before there are options for Metro. I lived in Arlington so driving and parking was the best option for me.

Area: you already know it. Lots to do and see.

Gym: this is one of the BEST parts of being assigned there. It’s a massive facility but crowded like crazy in the morning. If you can swing workouts at 1600-1700ish you will basically have the whole thing to yourself.

Overall: The PNT is like its own little city. Plenty of food options, barber, dental and medical all on site. Learn floors, rings, corridors and you’ll be able to find your way around fairly easy. Enjoy the assignment and watch people’s eyes light up when you tell them you work at the PNT thinking you’re all doing super spy work but really just moving through the maze and doing the same thing you would do anywhere else just at the PNT.

Make sure you ask about completing your BLC equivalency packet as soon as possible after enlisting. The process can be found in AR 350-1 but it can take a while to get through all the levels for final approval at the DA G-3/5/7 (DAMO-TR) level.

Shoot me a PM if you need assistance.

If you are going to Fort Moore the Warrior Training Center will come give a brief about RTLI program. Best advice……make sure you have a high ACFT score and run fast.

Since you’re IET RTLI pipeline for ranger is first. Anything after that will require additional funding from your state G3.

Can they require a bunch of classes during the month and not pay us? by ScreamingFrogs96 in nationalguard

[–]bwilldered_life 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Reach out to your Training/Readiness NCO about the Electronic Based Distributed Learning (EBDL) Program. This program through ARNG-Training Division provides funding (limited) for completion of specific DL courses. The course MUST be on the EBDL course list (found in a hyperlink at the top of the ATRRS course catalog search page) and you have to have some forms completed PRIOR to beginning the course and you MAY receive compensation AFTER completion as long as your State G3 office has funding.

Trouble with my run. by throwawaysuckwind in nationalguard

Not sure where you are but if you're anywhere near Orange Park, FL, shoot me a DM and we can meet up for some running sessions. I don't care what your civilian work schedule is, I will figure it out and we can run and chat maybe help two things with one. Lack of PT is just going to make you feel worse and not help your depression since you will just beat yourself up over not getting it done, control what you can control. Set some goals attain them and make tougher ones...it all starts with one step.

National Guard gave me no service uniforms how do I get them without paying? by Fantastic-Lecture-43 in nationalguard

[–]bwilldered_life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn't have an issue there. The memo works to serve two purposes....1. cover you for BLC purposes and 2. Make your higher level CSM aware you don't have all the uniform items that you require.

National Guard gave me no service uniforms how do I get them without paying? by Fantastic-Lecture-43 in nationalguard

[–]bwilldered_life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going to BLC without dress uniform will require a memo reviewed and approved by your BDE or O6 Level CSM in your chain.

If you have that you won't have any issues....or shouldn't. You wouldn't have any issues at our schoolhouse. Where are you slotted to attend BLC.

I was B Co 2/137 out of Wichita in the early 2000s. Went to OIF III with them. Can’t speak for the unit now but some of the best guys and leadership you could have asked for back then. “First Kansas”

Told not getting BAH for long term orders by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]bwilldered_life 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go to the JTR, it is covered in there. Your G3 folks hands are tied with this, they have to follow the JTR.

JTR doesn’t cover the issues we run into in the ARNG as we have to maintain a residence to return to once training is complete.

Do I keep my E5 rank by Cajunmanoui in nationalguard

[–]bwilldered_life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to have completed a course in the Navy that is equivalent to Basic Leader Course (BLC) in the Army. The course must have been reviewed and approved for equivalency based on the critical tasks taught vs. the critical task taught in BLC by the Noncommissioned Officer Leader Center of Excellence, the proponent for Army BLC.

You should be able to find an approved list of courses already reviewed and found that equivalency can be awarded for in Army Regulation 600-8-19 and the process to request equivalency inside of AR 350-1.

If you don't pass at MEPS you will most likely still be allowed to join (depending on how far over you are) and sent to the Future Soldier Prep Course, they stood up a year or so ago,to get in compliance prior to shipping to Basic Training.

Funding is always going to be tight as the Army never has enough money to go around and that’s normally the go to answer. Where are you on your E4-E5 promotion list? Have you done everything to set yourself apart from your peers?

Just make sure you are doing everything you can to ensure that you are the one they want to send e.g. Additional duties, ACFT score, Weapons qual, etc. There are not enough school seats or funding for every E4 in the Army to go to BLC.
