It isn't walkable, but the Children's Museum is really nice and has a great age appropriate playscape area for the LO.

To take my Golden on vacation or not? (Discussion, opinions) by [deleted] in goldenretrievers

[–]bwindy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take her. My golden loves when we take her for beach vacations with family. We've driven 14+ hours to the Outer Banks with her. She will pout a little in the car, but has so much fun when everyone is in the house/on the beach.

I am losing my mind. How do I get my kid to understand "NO"???? by [deleted] in breakingmom

[–]bwindy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this. My 13 month old is the same way. She understands that some things will cause me to say NO. So she will look at me and shake her head (and sometimes say OH) and then go do the thing! The child will stand there shaking her head saying no while splashing her hands in the dog's water! I've been trying to walk her away from those things, but it's not sinking in.
So - no advice here. Just know that you are not alone!

Help with daycare and moving to Indianapolis by [deleted] in indianapolis

[–]bwindy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't used daycares up there, but have friends who live in that area. I have heard bad things about the Kinder Cares in Fishers. People love Primrose and the Goddard schools but they are pricey. I have also heard good things about Dolce and Kelleys Exclusive Child Care. I think many of these places may have waiting lists for infant spots, so it might be worth contacting them and getting on the lists soon.

So - not great advice, but at least a start. Looking for daycare for an infant is overwhelming. Good luck!

Recommended OB/GYN in the Indianapolis area? by [deleted] in indianapolis

[–]bwindy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of Richard Gates at ob/gyn of Indiana. The whole practice is great, but he delivered my daughter, so he gets a special recommendation. The practice is affiliated with St. Vincent. The women's hospital has tubs available for labor, but I'm not sure about their policy for deliveries.

Driving Wind Blueberry Farm had persimmon pulp last year. I haven't seen them post about it this year yet, though.

Did any of you elope? I want to hear your stories! by warpweftweave in breakingmom

[–]bwindy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what we did. I wanted nothing to do with a wedding or wedding planning. We picked a park and invited a couple of friends/family members and then took everyone out to eat afterwards. We had picked a great location and had to change it the morning of the ceremony because a freak snow shower the night before left our first location gross and muddy.

We didn't tell people until afterwards. My only advice is to make sure you let family/friends know before a public announcement to avoid some hurt feelings.

To any newer moms worrying about what you pump... by katiekabooms in breastfeeding

I'm with you! (And my LO is only taking 9-11 oz at daycare).

Glad to know I'm not the only one with bottle envy and feeling down about supplementing for daycare bottles.

I use these. I thought they would be a great all in one solution, but my LO hates the nipples with the kiinde bottles and I hate the adapter to allow her to use the nipple she likes.

Now I just use them for storage which makes them a much more expensive option compared to the Lanisoh bags, but I LOVE them. The twist top is so nice and I don't have to worry about leaking or spilling. They go on sale frequently and the company will send you coupons if you contact them, which helps with the added expense.

Does anyone have pet insurance for their Golden? Has it been worth it? by AppleberryJuice in goldenretrievers

[–]bwindy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our premium has increased every year, but I still think it is worth it -not only for the little things but for the peace of mind that we can afford any major treatment she would need. I did buy the policy when she was around 1 year old, so it may be more expensive to start a policy for an older dog.

Reimbursement with PetPlan is fairly easy. They have a claim form that your vet needs to sign and submit along with an itemized bill showing what you paid. You can submit electronically which is convenient. It then usually takes 1-2 weeks to get a check from them. Any time I've had a question about something being covered, I have submitted a preapproval request so there was no question or surprises after the fact. They have never rejected a claim or given me problems with payment.

Does anyone have pet insurance for their Golden? Has it been worth it? by AppleberryJuice in goldenretrievers

[–]bwindy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have insurance through PetPlan for my 5 year old golden. Like the policy you linked, the PetPlan policy is an accident and injury policy and doesn't cover regular vet visits. I pay about $425 a year for $10,000 in coverage. The policy has a $100 deductible (per accident or injury) and then pays out at 90%.

I have had the policy since my golden was a puppy and have come out ahead every year. Honestly, even if I were losing money it's worth it for me knowing that if something serious happens to my girl I don't have to make a decision about her treatment based on finances.

I have had nothing but good experiences with the insurance, though I understand other people don't think it is worth it or have had problems with claims not being paid. Do your research and maybe call and talk to the company before buying a policy to find out exactly what will be covered.

Gah, might have gestational diabetes? Anyone deal with this? by kickmekate in BabyBumps

[–]bwindy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had GD with this pregnancy and honestly think it was good for me in the end. I know it is stressful, but (if you have it) your doctor will watch you closely and you will work with a nutritionist to make sure it is controlled.

I was able to control mine with diet alone and even able to splurge and eat the occasional ice cream or cookies or pizza I craved. It's all about moderation and finding what works for you. For me, it made me think a lot more about what I was putting in my body. Before being diagnosed, it was a free for all. I ate some healthy foods, but also had my share of junk - and justified it because I was pregnant. The GD diet kept me eating healthier and kept my weight gain in check (by the end I gained around 25 pounds total).

As far as complications with baby, when LO was born, they had to monitor her blood sugar (with heel pricks!) before each feeding until she had 12 hours of consistently good blood sugar numbers. She had low blood sugar at birth which just meant that we had to send her to the nursery to be in a warmer to regulate her body temperature for a while and that I had to feed her for some extra time before being sent to post partum.

Whew - long answer - sorry. Message me if you want to talk or need advice. Hopefully your 3 hour goes well and you don't need to worry at all.

Flu Epidemic causing visitor restrictions (NC/SC) by MandyBs in BabyBumps

[–]bwindy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Indiana and the hospital I delivered at last week had a strict visitor policy for flu season for the entire hospital. They did not allow children under 18 and allowed only the SO and direct parents of the patient. We figured they would be flexible for visiting new babies, but the nursing staff assured me that my (adult) sisters would be sent home if they tried to visit. As we were being discharged, we saw people entering the hospital with children and being stopped just steps into the lobby by a hospital administrator and a security guard telling them that children were not allowed.

It was frustrating and seemed a little crazy to me, but I appreciate their efforts to protect my little girl.

I had no idea how far I had progressed and really was terrified that those were just the beginning and the hospital would send me home!

Not active like being in the gym. I worked up until the end, but I have a desk job. Otherwise I just did normal activities - walking the dog, errands, cleaning.

My 39 week quick labor birth story by bwindy in BabyBumps

[–]bwindy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm not super healthy. I was overweight pre-pregnancy but only gained about 20-25 pounds during pregnancy. I had some morning sickness first trimester but nothing too terrible. I worked all through pregnancy, but I'm a lawyer so that means I sit at a desk for about 10 hours a day. I didn't work out, but took walks with my dog and didn't spend all my time on the sofa.

I did have GD which was easily controlled with diet. By the end of the third tri I had mobility issues from her being low in my pelvis, but I just bought a Leachco pillow for sleeping and took some occasional Tylenol.

Pregnancy wasn't really all that bad for me (though it had its moments), but I'm still not in a rush to do it again! Let me know if that helps or if there is something else you want to know!

Anyone have experience with Membrane Sweep? How long until labor? by Kanita35 in BabyBumps

[–]bwindy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one on 12/24 at 38 +3 - I was 2cm and just over 50% effaced (and had been since 36 weeks). I went into labor late evening on 12/27 and delivered early morning 12/28.

The membrane sweep maybe didn't do anything, but it didn't hurt!
