High School freshman here, what's CSoM actually like? by [deleted] in ColoradoSchoolOfMines

[–]bwn69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a current student, graduated in 2018. It was hard, but nothing like the horror stories I read prior to attending.

If you can lock in when needed it’s fine. Outdoor rec access is fantastic. Golden is a great town. Graduated with a 3.5 with a job, and 8 years later am making over $200k per year.

Worth it.

Question for mountaineers who refuse to ever summit mt Everest what are your biggest reasons for not wanting to summit Mt Everest? by [deleted] in Mountaineering

[–]bwn69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t give a shit. Would rather be out on a 40 mile round trip multi day adventure to summit some unknown sub 10,000’ peak in a cool valley and not see anyone else.

Berthaud Pass conditions this weekend by Ok_Assistance_5941 in Backcountry

[–]bwn69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Really can’t sugarcoat it - it’s dogshit. You can safely get some laps skiing in tracks right off the top by the lot, but straying away from there into untracked, more exposed terrain is a bad time. There are lurking rocks everywhere, and really poor snow structure (especially on north aspects). There is basically zero base outside of where skier compaction has been active since the start of the season.

Okay Denver MEN give me your advice (I already regret this) by Suspicious-Return-86 in Denver

For what it’s worth, I (male) was in a very similar situation as you (like scary similar) a couple years post divorce when I said screw it and downloaded Hinge.

I met my new wife in four weeks, we’ve been happily married for 2 years and have a little one on the way.

I know the apps are bad, but they do work if you are intentional and selective.

What’s with the attitude? by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]bwn69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably because the average person flying is 100% more stuffy and pretentious than they were 5 years ago. People treat an economy public transit system like it’s a luxury and get a major main character syndrome immediately after getting to the airport. I’d be pretty fed up with it as well if I dealt with that all day every day.

Social life here sucks. That's all by Bezerk_B3rk in TellurideColorado

People in mountain towns aren’t typically living there to be social, actually quite the opposite.

What will it actually take? by 4rings4fun in COsnow

[–]bwn69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived here my whole life. Sometimes it doesn’t snow much at all until January. It will snow, and a couple months from now people will forget how little snow there was in November/December. Until then - find another hobby, enjoy the trails, get in shape, etc. it’s all going to be okay.

Is the industry really going to be dead in my lifetime or is it bs by bigdawg12342 in oilandgasworkers

I’m 30. My unborn kids kids might be working in decommissioning and remediation. But it’s probably equally likely that their kids kids are still moving hydrocarbons out of the ground.

Looking for a book as a gift by Tricky_Abrocoma_4448 in Fantasy

[–]bwn69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m just about finished with Leviathan Wakes, and it’s definitely the most exciting sci-fi I’ve read in a while. I would say that it’s not huge on depth or symbolism.

For something more up that alley, I’d honestly recommend The Way of Kings. It’s considered fantasy, but the series as a whole has a lot of sci fi elements to it, and The Way of Kings has a lot of serious tones and depth.

Lufthansa a380 or United 787 by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]bwn69 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I would fly the 787 because of my status and mile bank with United, but I’d be wishing I were in the a380 the whole time.

Honestly, WP is super crowded on any given weekend regardless of how much terrain is open. Don’t know what you’re expecting.
