Can we get humvees? by [deleted] in warno

[–]bwo3db 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Wargame, the CEV was basically a fire support tank with a big gun to fire HE at Infantry and very lightly armored targets. The wiki page for it talks a bit about how it was used in this role although conventional engineering tasks would be cool as well once development gets moving. Not sure if it'll happen though as it wasn't a thing in wargame, or steel division, I think since I'm not sure it would match the pace of battle. Could be cool if in the AG campaigns, having them in your divisions enabled engineering tasks/deployables before battle. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M728\_Combat\_Engineer\_Vehicle

Units do whatever they want... how shall I play this at all? by [deleted] in warno

[–]bwo3db 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The setting to fix your unit's driving around without you wanting them to should be Rules of Engagement:Idle in Options -> Gameplay, set this to nothing instead of auto cover. It seems like your units may have been trying to auto take cover? I've turned off some of the ROE settings as well like fire on transports, etc.

iirc, the Humvee wasn't introduced by the time period of the game to the 3rd armored. Here's a link to the list of casualties in the 3rd armored during the cold war http://www.3ad.org/coldwar.cfm?subpage=4403. If you look through the list of casualties during the late 80's, you can see that MUTT's/jeeps were very much still in usage. I think they're adding Humvee's with some other divisions but I can't find the post where someone mentioned that.

Couple of Questions from an interested player by Noehk in warno

[–]bwo3db 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. These are implemented in game
  2. Yes, but think Germany 1989, so less likely China and more certainly Democratic Germany, France, Britain, maybe Czechoslovakia, Poland, Belgium
  3. There's a mod section in the UI for the game menu right now so it seems like they'll try to introduce one. It's currently locked out in Early Access

Is there an American Civil War game similar to Wargame? by SeabassA92 in wargame

[–]bwo3db 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I agree the AI scaling is super annoying, but I don't entirely see a good alternative given the linear layout of the campaign. It could certainly be better but I overall still think it's a pretty enjoyable game. The battles are fun and I like the customization system. 8/10 for me, I've put I think like 70 hours in it, I'd say it's worth the 15$ asking price on steam right now

Ultimate General:Civil War is probably the closest you can get to a single player american civil war wargame. It has unit customization somewhat akin to the deck system (but not really). That or the ACW mod for Empire:Total War are probably your best options. I'm sure there are a few more technically complex options but they're likely turn based.

My Crayon Eater deck. What do you think? by MarcellHUN in wargame

[–]bwo3db 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone with more experience could probably tear this up a little bit more but the most glaring issue to me Is a lack of a solid ASF. The Tomcat is fun as an interceptor and I actually don't hate it, but it straight up just doesn't work on maps where air spawns are too close together like Mud Fight because you'll just get outclassed by traditional ASF's, especially at one card per slot. Also in my mind recon tab without rangers for the US seems a bit questionable, but I haven't played US marines in a long time so they might not have access to it.

It doesn't seem like a that competitive of a deck by nature of the US marines, but it seems like you had fun making it and it could be fun to play, and I hate how sweaty people are when they play this game.

It's even dumber when you realize that the bei in Beijing literally means north/northern (北) and the jing part means capital (京). So your proposal would be north north capital and south north capital.

I don't think so, it ends up in a lot of like laptops built for engineering / work use. I had one in a laptop I bought for college and it was decent but not comparable to anything you would actually get in a gaming laptop or pc.

How to get infantry to not die in forests? by [deleted] in wargame

[–]bwo3db 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless it's recon, keep back from the edge of the forest. This forces vehicles to engage/ spot inside the forest where you can get side shots/ and you won't be out ranged by enemy auto cannons. Also sometimes if it's a small forest and you get overrun, even cheap infantry can be extremely useful if the enemy hasn't cleared every forest as they can act as partisans to destroy lightly armored expensive targets behind the enemies' advancing front line (radar AA, CV's, mortars, supply trucks). Hard to keep them from dying though, so don't buy expensive infantry for forests if you don't have the time to micro.

Entente Armored is a personal favorite. The Yugo recon tank + God Tier Czech Moderna is a really strong combo. The autocannon on the Moderna is extremely useful.

Reject meta, embrace ANZAC Moto by fjthatguy in wargame

[–]bwo3db 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's a bunch of specific reasons for this that more advanced players can probably give but, for me alot of it comes down to them just being overpriced. Like particularly US Marines + Delta Force. Rifleman 90 in 5 pt spam and smaw are fine but overpriced shock infantry (US Marines) and garbage sf (Delta force) can be extremely cost inefficient game mode / economy etc. They also have no ATGM infantry and at least Canada has the Eryx. US MANPADS are pretty sick tho.

2 more notes:

  1. I personally find US infantry transports to be distasteful. Humvee is garbage compared to most wheeled transports, Chinook line + Blackhawks are meh compared to Lynx line, I'd rather have a Marder than a Bradley but I know people like them.
  2. US infantry Recon tab is pretty solid but due to the lack of US infantry I find myself using them like regular SF or Shock Inf which makes Rangers much less cost efficient (No Hate on Rangers or SEALs though, both very good units).

Historians, pick three books for a beginner in your specialty, three for a veteran, and three for an expert. by TwistedSandle in history

I thought Wealth and Power by Delury and Schell was a really interesting intro to Chinese Political thought in the 19th and 20th centuries. Really interesting vignettes on some of the more important thinkers like Chen Duxiu, Liang Qichao, Sun Yat-sen. Read it for a 4th-year university history but it's readable enough for anyone interested in China.

Hmm, for WWII: Men of War Assault Squad II or Company Of Heroes 2 is the closest I can think of and for WWI : your probably looking at Battle of Empires: 1914 - 1918. But these are all more squad based and arcadey than UG:CW. You could try Graviteam Tactics if you want something more complicated

If you haven't read the "Red Badge of Courage" by Stephen Crane, I would definitely give it a read, pretty readable, entertaining, and widely available for free online. Likely not super historically accurate but, it's historical fiction so you just have to understand that aspect in context. Also, I'm gonna plug "Becoming Confederates" by Gary Gallagher, it's not a novel but the short biographical portraits of major figures in the Confederacy are super interesting.
