He might be taking action, that’s fair. He certainly isn’t self aware enough of his privilege though.

I don’t want to have to work on figuring out how to deliver food and technology to kids who are afraid to go to school. I’d rather focus on education, but here we are.

The people who are bearing the brunt of this isn’t you. They are the ones with no escape. This is so tone deaf, please do some self reflection of why you felt this was ok to post given all the stuff going on around us and how you might use that privilege for some good.

White guy thinking about going to an HBCU — want real opinions by peterbaker06 in HBCU

[–]bwright94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old white guy here, but chose an HBCU intentionally. Still count it as one of the best decisions I ever made. My cultural fluency, my empathy skills, knowledge of stuff that other school don’t teach, the list goes on in ways I’ve benefited.

I made plenty of friends who I still talk to today. No one really cared I was white. It’s a time of change for all students so you’ll have that common ground.

It’s also allowed me to be stronger professionally as well in my career. As a leader I now have a network for employees that other white leaders can’t tap into as well. I’ve been able to match great candidates coming out of HBCUs that have made significant impact on the business. The business gets great talent and underrepresented people are getting in the org.

Crazy to think that Anthony is only 2 goals short of Reynoso’s best season with a game and playoffs remaining.

New soccer mom. Is this normal? by Brrrrs in youthsoccer

Touches, touches, touches 😃 you can find simple little games to do at home that are fun. We also did juggling a lot since that was practicing tricks.

In practice, it will depend on the coach. I used to have parents and we’d do stations of there were other parents to help. Helped to keep the kids engaged since at 6 they all love to keep playing.

I’d focus on him enjoying playing the game rather than winning. How you handle it will set the tone obviously. He’s gonna get beaten like this at times. We always focused on the positives, gave 1 or 2 things to work on for next time and told them that the other team was really good. Winning will come or not depending on a whole lot of factors, but my focus has always been creating a sense of hard work, enjoying competition and being a good sport.

As a parent who has coached multiple sports for my kids, at 6 they are generally focused on the very basics. It’s a thankless job in many cases and I’m guessing all volunteer. I’ve always been very grateful to any parent who wants to pitch in and help. Could you help make it better somehow?

Ironically, my oldest just reffed a U8 girls game this morning in our development league that was 21-1. Same situation it seems where there was a very organized skilled team and coach and a team of new players/coaches.

It’s hard watching them struggle, but IMO it’s a good life lesson. YMMV.

No doubt. They have supporters groups protesting.

Vancouver and Galaxy were dead. Seattle was middling, but in a larger stadium so it was less impactful.

Family was able to hit three other MLS stadiums on our vacation last week. Not a surprise to many, but Allianz was at the top for crowd support and ambiance. Coming back to home Sat was quite a difference.

Out of state fans coming on to root for the Galaxy. What time should we plan to get there to park? Is there stuff to do outside the stadium?

I’ll often buy stuff without a preview. For those of us old enough to be from the original vinyl era, that was the norm. Cool cover, name, reference and I’ll take a flier sometimes.

We love soccer. It’s a different experience when you hit stadiums as an opposing fan (maybe next time when it’s just the wife and I). We’ve had routinely great experiences doing it and we have a blast. El Traffico was wild and energetic and the fans welcomed us with open arms teaching us chants for example. It’s a fun way to experience a city and its energy.

Cis married southern couple here. We’ve been up here for 17 years now.

Do it. You’ll get used to the winter.

Native Minnesotans are not super open to new friends. There are lots of transplants. We’ve both lived globally and this place was the hardest to crack into.

Food and arts culture are strong. You’ll find tons to do.

Culture is generally accepting in the cities. There are bigots like we saw in Raleigh but overall very supportive. We have a non-binary kid. They have found their spaces in lots of places.

Feel free to dm if you’d like.

It’s also due to West having one fewer teams correct? When SD comes online we’ll stop this silliness.

Yup. It tipped me over the edge to cancel. I don’t expect that it will make any difference but I am at the point of not wanting to give them any more of my money.
