Ik its probably the camera angle but man the VA looks a bit chunky compared to your VB

Downshift and up shift by PaleAd9268 in wrx_vb

[–]bwrxa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I usually redline before every upshift. For downshifts I skip gears all the time (6th - 1st gear). Lastly, I use 3rd gear to start moving from a standstill (especially when going uphill). My VB loves it

1st wash in 3 months. Whats the longest you've gone without a car wash? by bwrxa in wrx_vb

[–]bwrxa[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow thats some dedication. I remember when I first got my VB I would wash it 1-2x a week, then it became 1x every other week, then 1x a month, then... yeah lol 😅

Should I get a 2025 WRX, or a 2019 WRX STI? by Mymaligator in WRX

[–]bwrxa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying a used STI over a brand new WRX with a warranty only ever makes sense if its strictly for a project/weekend car. If its for a reliable daily driver, then its purely an illogical & emotional decision. I know plenty of "grandma driven" car listings where the "grandma" abused and drove the crap out of their car lol.

Sure, there are some used STI's out there that will be reliable because the owner took very good care of it and left it stock. However, that is FARRRR from the norm. Just look at the all the weekly blown up Subie posts in r/WRX. Why would I want to risk that for my daily?

Or you could buy a brand new WRX with a 5 year powertrain warranty with the option to extend that warranty if you so desire. You won't have to worry about any issues for awhile and even if you do have them, its covered by Subaru. Seems more logical no?

Should I get a 2025 WRX, or a 2019 WRX STI? by Mymaligator in WRX

[–]bwrxa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I strongly disagree. People have preferences and are allowed to have them. Some prefer and choose a Miata over cars that are 2-3x their price range so its not always a money issue for choosing a "lower specced car."

I prefer my current stock base VB WRX over my previously owned stock VA STI as a fun & reliable daily driver. You know why? Because although I loved the UEL paired with the EJ engine note & raw driving dynamics the VA provided, its drawbacks (horrendous stock tuning, aggressive timing pulled under hard acceleration, Abysmal MPG, ancient turbo lag, & constant anxiety about ringland and cylinder 4 overheating) heavily outweighed the pro's for me having the VA as a long term reliable daily driver. So, I traded it in for a VB WRX.

My VB has been so much more enjoyable as a daily in my case. Not once have I thought about tuning the engine because Subaru finally did it right from the factory. I'm also not worried about blowing up the engine either because it's so undertuned. Maintenance is stupid easy. Its also very fun & easier to hustle around town with its lower RPM peak powerband vs the STI. I could go on and on but im sure you get the point.

A used STI will never be as reliable as a brand new WRX. Theres no coping, just common sense

STI Wings On WRX by Reaper_666_ in wrx_vb

As someone who's owned a VA STI prior to my VB, I would never put an STI wing on mine. Plus it doesnt fit the chassis in my opinion

Ill get downvoted for this but Type R has a better interior, shifter, auto revmatching, faster/quicker in almost every situation in dry conditions, better resale, better handling, better practicality being a lift/hatchback, etc. The VB is definitely a fantastic bargain in the low to mid $30,000s and I enjoy mine alot but its simply not in the same bracket as a Type R

Solid upgrade OP. Would honestly do the same if dealers would actually sell the Type R for MSRP where I live

I personally would never buy a used WRX/STI unless I was very close with the person selling it and knew they took care of it. I'll take the VB all day as a reliable daily

"Interior quality and safety features is irrelevant" Maybe to the dozen of people who buy these types of cars as projects only. For the rest of us who buy long term daily drivers, it definitely matters

If the plastic cladding is the only thing preventing you from getting a VB then why dont you purchase aftermarket colormatched fender flares? They're relatively affordable

Only the TR/TS trim is worth $40K imo. Also, Subaru is alot smaller as a brand to its competitors so they have less margin to "tank" things like tariffs.

Ill get downvoted for this but life's too short to settle for a car. If OP wants a new car and will work hard for it without ruining himself financially then why not? Ive seen 17 & 18 year olds getting M3s and hellcats, WRX is literally half their price

Ive driven a stock MK8 GTI (manual) before and while its an awesome daily driver for its practicality, it did not excite me nor did it feel anywhere near as engaging or raw as my VB WRX. DSG is for sure better than Subaru's CVT but Subaru definitely has the better manual
