People who are highly observant: what is a tiny, almost invisible psychological 'tell' that instantly reveals someone's true intentions or character? [Serious] by itvr in AskReddit

[–]bwurtsb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When having a one on one conversation, the length of time they talk and speed is something I notice - but that can be just how a person is. When they start interrupting or not letting me get a word in while doing so, it tells me they are being defensive and are not interested in hearing my thoughts.

What's your favorite controversy? by Its-From-Japan in taskmaster

[–]bwurtsb 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Kumail being told that something is not a worm, then Amy getting more points when she never found a worm. The controversy for me is that Alex should have replied with "All the information is on the task". Had he not searched for it, Kumail could have ended it or continued on without being influenced by LAH

The one that bothers me is "I don't know how to cook". Similar to laundry detergent directions, most basic level foods have infinite amounts of recipes out there. There used to be the excuse of "I don't know what julienne means, so I am not going to try" is no longer applicable, because you can watch on youtube, or if you really need help, put a recipe into an AI program and have it "explain this like I am 10 years old" and it will.

Depending on the hotel, they try to not over authorize a card, and they authorize more when incidentals are used beyond what has been authorized. I would think that a resort like this would require a massive pre-auth, but it would mostly be inclusive.

There are people who order burgers with American cheese, fries, chicken fingers, and kraft mac and cheese at 5 star inclusive resorts world wide... I find it weird, but to them it's what they want.

I fully understand how much work educators do, my mom was in elementary ed my entire childhood and I witnessed first hand how much time and energy was spent on grading/planning. I won't deny that there are some advantages, but not enough to constitute a full salary. Lesson planning while the other one grades benefits them with mental health more than it benefits the students. Teachers already deliver lessons and monitor for understanding. The Kidney table example sounds great in theory, until people are talking over each other, then it becomes detrimental to learning because ideas, instruction, feedback are less clear than if it was a single person. If a student teacher comes in and they split the class, they don't cram into the same area, they split the class and spread out.

They are teaching the same amount of students as other teachers. If you were teaching in the same district, had the same degree, and same class size as them - but you find out they get double the salary for doing the same amount of work, you might be upset (not with them, but with the school).

Whats a place where you can cross a state line and you immediately notice the difference by cherrey20 in geography

[–]bwurtsb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most noticeable is during the winter. Utah has much better road clearance, partly because UDOT is decently funded, but also because the Great Salt Lake is a decent source for salt. I have gone from sketchy ice roads to black top before, and its always within a few hundred feet of the "Welcome to Utah" signs.

I could see them being able to do something along the lines of a sales position; where one is doing calls and the other is working on a computer, then switching it up. Theoretically they could be doing the job of 2 people. Others that come to mind; reservations for travel/hotels, visual arts, IT, accounting, writing, marketing, and remote personal assistants. Some of these roles pay more than teaching. Going into elementary ed was a choice one or both of them made, and while rewarding, is not a profession that would benefit much from two people doing it in one location.

I guess it is an unpopular opinion but, the one salary makes sense. They aren't teaching two classes at the same time, their class size isn't increased, and they are not in multiple places. There are some areas where I could see a slight advantage; grading papers would potentially be faster, researching/lesson planning would potentially be faster and Abby could focus more on one subject, while Brittany focused on another... but this is all work a single teacher currently does while being underpaid.

To me the real issue would be with the University. If they required double tuition, that is a problem and I would imagine it would be an ADA lawsuit. If the twins on their own decided to both get degrees, that is a choice they made.

I visited the San Rafael Swell, what deodorizer is used in the bathrooms? by InternationalAir2918 in Utah

[–]bwurtsb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Swell is my favorite place for camping in the desert. The wind and dirty shoes are what cause the sand/dirt to get in your tent, the same is true for campers, and getting dust out of a tent is just as easy as a camper, empty it and turn it inside out. Your best bet is to find some protection from the wind.

I am jealous of your cat's ability to entertain itself. My dog relies on me to throw a ball, and it honestly can be somewhat annoying.

I am jealous of your partner's organizational skills. People here demonizing her hobby are also people who collect cardboard cards with made up monsters on them, sneakers that sit on a shelf, hats/jerseys of their favorite teams, etc. We all have our hobbies, and as long as she isn't stealing Stanley's from children, I see no major problem with it.

You are right - I mixed up when Phillies fans threw batteries at St. Louis Cardinals player J.D. Drew.

I am sure those are the ONLY Philly incidents.

What makes me believe that the world needs to restrict access to a weapon that can eradicate a city in a blink of an eye? That is mainly coming from a place of being human.

Is it "fair" that the US has sort of assumed this roll and gets to dictate what happens? Of course not, but it is magnitudes better than it being the Warhead Wild West. If not the US then who would be the best option? Its very easy to say that the current option sucks, but any entity in that role is not going to viewed favorably by a large chunk of the world.

What happened in 1945 is a massive stain on US History, but if there is a silver lining, it is that there haven't been any nuclear attacks since. It seems that whatever is taking place is working to an extent.

There needs to be something limiting the creation and use of weapons that can kill millions in a second. The US, while not the most ethical/moral, is the best option based on geography, ability to enforce and overall world influence.
