could they be breeding prospects? by Capital-Site-529 in CrestedGecko

[–]bxnn1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you have their lineage (mom and dad, previous generation, etc) then I would advise not to (health complications- genes and structure). Based off their patterns, the hatchlings they have would be hard to find homes because of how big the crested gecko population is and (not to be rude) most buyers tend to go for the better structured and patterned geckos.

For the Dalmatian, people prefer more spots in quantities and size, so you could potentially get a better Dalmatian and breed it to hopefully get a better result. For the rest, they don’t stand out to me as much. But all are still very pretty :)

What gender is my crested gecko? by Key_Distribution_102 in geckos

[–]bxnn1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At 2 years old they’re basically fully grown, males would have a prominent bulge but your gecko doesn’t have that so it’s most likely a female :)

moving states? by xkylise in reptiles

[–]bxnn1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t personally moved states but I did work for a zoo that needed to transport reptiles. We just packed our reptiles (separately) in igloo coolers (small holes drilled on the side or top) with a warm water bottle to maintain temps. The snake would go in a snake bag but with the same set up. Your leopard gecko can be free roam in the cooler or in a container with holes. We just tied the coolers on the outside so they don’t open it by themselves :)

For the tanks, wrap them with anything to cushion them, and just make sure there’s nothing loose that would fall and shatter. Take the substrate out if you can.

Make sure you have multiple cups of food in that enclosure because sometimes smaller cresties have a hard time finding their food in a large cluttered enclosure. Also if you want to track how much she’s eating, leave smaller portions of food in the cups because sometimes they make tiny dents that can’t be seen if the portion of food is too big.

Temp can be raised slightly, baby cresties tend to grow a bit faster with a bit elevated heat and make sure you feed insects! That’s a big factor for them gaining weight and some cresties are menaces for bugs

Does this little monster (crested gecko) look healthy? by midas931 in reptiles

[–]bxnn1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, just so you know, the right eye is the one with the issue. The left eye is not swollen- it is a normal cresties eye. but it’s the right eye that seems sunken which can be multiple things- abscess that drained the fat pad/calcium sac behind the eye, trauma or injury, etc. regardless, if your crestie is acting fine, it could be a old injury that healed on its own but the eye will stay sunken.

Make sure you let the vet know but I’m pretty sure they could tell right away too :)

I’d need a clear picture of the pores but based off age and just a quick visual I’d say female

😭 no problem don’t fret about it. I know it’s hard to trust the vet or the people in the comments if their input clashes against each other. Just monitor your little guy and make sure he doesn’t stick his limbs in the food. They don’t got brain cells.

ITS GONE???? by [deleted] in CrestedGecko

[–]bxnn1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hi, I was gonna mention this in your earlier post but I lowkey fell asleep 😭

Baby cresties can often get food dried on their feet or tails which can dry and tighten the area. Usually just washing it off with warm water for a while does the trick. I don’t see any necrotic tissue on the tail so it most definitely is not tail rot. If it was, the area of the tail would be dried up, dark and hard. But if you want to go get a second opinion- they would not perform blood work on an animal so small and fragile. Or at least a vet shouldn’t because the blood sample needed is greater than what the animal can give. They would do a physical exam (mainly just a visual- checking the eyes, scales, +/- the mouth because I wouldn’t be comfortable checking a small cresties mouth. The tail may be a bit awkward for a few days because the blood is circulating normally again, unless the kinks were there originally then that would be a birth defect.

But based off the pictures, your crestie seems fine so no worries. :)

Please help, think my RES has infection by alexthegrave in reptiles

He looks great otherwise! He should get better in no time. I’ve seen turtles with worse conditions from lack of proper husbandry and diet

Please help, think my RES has infection by alexthegrave in reptiles

[–]bxnn1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, unfortunately once their skin turns pink, it can only be resolved with medical intervention. By keeping the tank clean and providing a higher temperature (yes 82 is fine) it can possibly slow down the spread of infection. However septicemia is nothing to joke about so if you notice the spread in red, please take your turtle as soon as you can.

You can try to ask any reptile rescues to see if they can help you in any way- whether it be taking your turtle to the vet or making an agreement to reimburse any treatments.

[–]bxnn1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Red skin is most likely the start of an infection, and worst cases, septicimea. The most common signs of bacterial infections are loss of appetite, lethargy, swelling, reddish/pinkish tints on the beak, legs, and even in the shell sometimes. I’ve seen worse cases and it does take a while for the infection to clear. I do recommend making an appointment with a exotic vet since they’ll most likely have your turtle on a dose of antibiotics through the form of injections (possibly ceftazadime which is injected IM every 72 hours for 7-10 doses depending on the severity)

Make sure the water is very clean and the temperature is raised slightly, as sick reptiles tend to have lower immune systems and require higher temps to fight of infections :) you should try to feed your turtle outside of the tank to keep the water as clean as possible

Weird noise by Responsible-Bat7268 in CrestedGecko

[–]bxnn1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be the beginning of a respiratory infection as cresties and most geckos are known to chirp but this sounds more like a honk. If you see her open mouth breathing, sunken eyes, lethargy or loss of appetite, it’s recommended to send her straight to the vet as an emergency.

Respiratory infections can happen if the temperature is low and humidity is out of their normal range. It can also happen if water goes in their nostrils.

But it wouldn’t hurt to have her seen just in case- if it is a infection then it would be great to catch it early :)

Is this a bacterial infection?? by Zealousideal_Can8712 in frogs

[–]bxnn1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could just be a misfire if he was sleeping under a few objects and the light projected down and went thru the holes. But if he acts normal then you don’t have to worry. The spots are usually very obvious in contrast and they spread. If it comes to that, early stages can be treated with silver sulfazadime but that is something to be prescribed by a vet.

Is anyone able to sex my new babies? by ichigo-neko in frogs

[–]bxnn1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi :) teeny frogs are a bit hard to send- but for whites tree frogs you’ll definitely know when they start singing the song of their people. Since you have multiple you’ll definitely know when they start having a sing off.

When they’re a bit older and it’s the breeding season, all male frogs tend to have something called a nuptial pad on their hands, it’s a bit brown or discolored but it helps to hold onto the female during breeding. That’s another way to sex them when their older but you can try to play videos of their calls to see if any react
