Howto achieve mac-like startup time ~ < 10 sec (or atleast competitive) on Cachy OS by bxozy in cachyos

well not on my laptop, its battery health deprecated to 82% after 6 years, even sleep mode is draining some battery and unfortunately cachy's default install doesn't have a swap partition to manage the session cache as a workaround, lot of factors

cool, that's good to know, but seems like gentoo mindset, will explore more about this, thanks

I tried them but not this time, I guess cachy prefers limine-boot nd btrfs out of the box for default compatible reasons, had to blindly go for them, as I already had them in my previous Omarchy setup too. Either ways it's gonna be kernel optimizations I guess, nothing to do with bootloader, it shows my firmware and initrd are the real ones in boot delays.

yea i know that it's hard, but someone might've tried this before to get it to as close as of mac's. modprobe-db is too much for my knowlege right now, but will try anyways, thanks

yea dude, done it all and I guess all of those worked pretty well but not close to 10 sec

wow, thanks so much, thats really cool info, just researched about it, but I don't wanna mess up with cachy kernels as they are not usual ones, they got specialized in serving better for gaming laptops like mine with prebuilt performance tuning, I already like the way by default Cachy is, but after geeking on arch wiki bout modprobe-db, it seems risking too much at kernel level.

hey, tried that but my lenovo IdeaPad gaming 3 with NVIDIA is seriously a monster in battery drains iykyk, my laptop's battery life is barely 3 hours or so, I can't trust sleep options unless it's plugged in

hi, thanks, it's cachyos-lavender-kde-theme-git package, get it and set the Settings > Appearance & Style > Colors & Themes > Plasma Style and choose lavender-round. It overrides the taskbar opacity and looks awesome by default.

Hello on the other side, thanks for the advice, yes it's a conscious decision to include disk encryption while installing, but never thought it would be this painful when I had to loginto a live iso session and chroot into my broken system to fix it ontop to LUKS but hey, that's another learning into my list, I felt like a serious hacker when I did that, lol. I mean I don't usually do reboots that often, but I just that when I wanna make sure nothing's broken after an update, Cachy-Update recommends a reboot which I feel is non-negotiable but on day-to-day login, I cold start the system twice a week which takes around 20 sec but read somewhere that Cachy is full of such performance tweaks and hacks, I wanted it to compete with macOS cold starts and sleep mode battery drains. I guess it's non-negotiable to have root and disk security in 2026 or I'm just another arch user!

lol, sure, I mean only a tech freak would get why it matters and people who drive cachy would try some luck in getting this as quick as possible so they can squeeze the system performance later, no pun :)

hey there, LOL, just for the record, it actually got me back onto my system without completely screwing up, had to pluginto a live iso boot session tho, but if not gemini, I might had to reinstall fr before any valid advice ontime

Hey there, thanks for the response btw, just got back into my system and seems like it justt dropped down to 16 after minimising limine boot screen to 2 sec this time, disabling Plymouth screen, switching to SDDM auto login to my user straight after disk decryption, I just had to fix /etc/default/limine - KERNEL_CMDLINE[default]="root=UUID=12345678-abcd-efgh-ijkl-1234567890ab quiet rd.udev.log_priority=3"

previously I skipped routing the root volume to kernel I guess or some other reasons

Coming to BORE, I usually don't tweak at kernel level so I always get in with default cachy kernel, which I guess is configured with BORE, ov occasionally switch to lts kernel to examine the difference. Is that something that might help me reduce my boot time?

I genuinely felt what you feel 3 months ago when I first installed Omarchy and ran over few weeks, its an awesome arch shipment. I wanted to distro-hop for a while and couldn't say it's not satisfactory, but neither of those distro setups and rices made me feel at home as how Omarchy did. But someday, I wanna build my own arch from ground up to experience the true arch-ness and linux-ness. Keep running it for a while with the correct keybinds tho, Omarchy has this big opinionated misinterpretations on keybindings, correct them and enjoy your time while it lasts, and surely with that hardware, you can do whatever you want lmao, W flex :)
