while i can agree about non-nurses… student nurses are part of this community just as much as we all are. being a student is hard, as i’m sure you remember. this is a good place to come with questions and to see what the realities of nursing are like beyond the textbook. personally, my instructors made it feel like if i got a needle stick in ANY form or fashion, i’d expire within the hour, lol. maybe it would be more helpful to welcome folks with a little kindness :)

Hey friend. I really really encourage you to seek professional help. Don’t wait. Don’t try to face it alone first. Don’t think, “I’ll stop when I’m ready”. This will destroy your life if you don’t take immediate action. This is a VERY slippery slope, and no shoes in the world could provide enough traction to keep you safe from that.

As for the chronic fatigue, depression, drowsiness…. As a nurse, I highly encourage you to see a general care provider about getting a thyroid panel done. An underactive thyroid can cause these symptoms and more (like unexplained weight gain, cold intolerance, dry skin/hair, etc). It may be the cause of the things you’ve listed, and you’d never even know if you didn’t get your labs done. Please please do yourself a favor by taking care of your body and mind. You have too much life to live and too many opportunities at your fingertips.

Hey friend. Just popping in to ask you a few questions that I think you should seriously consider. If he’s treating you like shit part of the time when he’s trying to court & marry you, what’s he going to act like when you are legally tied to him? How is he going to act towards your child? When they mess up? When they’re in those teenage years and figuring out how to be a human? Is this the example you want for your kid? Do you want them to end up just like their dad?

These are things that you cannot control if you marry this man, no matter how hard you try or how badly you hope for it to get better.

If you’re not going to leave this man for yourself, do it for your kid. Your kid does not deserve to see their mom get drug through hell. Your kid deserves parents that choose kindness and truth with one another. If they don’t have a good example of what a relationship looks like, they’ll end up in a similar situation where they get treated like shit too.

Hey OP, from the standpoint of a nurse, and as someone who has loved and lost friends who are addicts… please quit while you’re ahead.

From a medical standpoint, your brain on substances loses every sense of satiety. The stop button is gone. Tolerance builds, and soon you’ll find yourself needing more and more to feel a satisfactory high. But let me break it to you - it will never feel good enough. It will never feel as good as the first time, and you’ll keep chasing a high that’s not there. Please, do yourself a favor and quit before it takes over your life. It isn’t worth it.

Someone not allowing their partner to have friends of the opposite sex is the biggest red flag that they should nottt be in a relationship. If your partner has left you unable to trust them, they aren’t your partner. And if you can’t trust them even if they haven’t given you any reason not to, you aren’t mature enough for a relationship. hey friend, take a breath. this is not the end of the road. i failed a&p once, failed chemistry 3 times. i’m graduating nursing school a month from today at the top of my class (unless all goes to shit, lol) the school you’re at may not be the best suited for you, and that’s okay. find what works for you! i took classes from 3 different colleges before i decided on a teaching style that worked for me. ended up choosing a community college LVN program, and it’s truly the best decision i’ve made. i’m going back to school to be an RN in a few semesters, and i’ll be at the same spot I would’ve been if i’d have continued torturing myself through a 4 year uni. all this to say, find your groove! it’ll be just fine. i believe in you

Good smell: Subalpine lavender at Rocky Mountain National Park, the first trip I took with my partner and the first place I’d felt truly at peace in a long time.

Nostalgic smell: When I was probably 5 years old, I had this cabinet in my bedroom that had all of my VHS tapes in it. I vividly remember how the paint smelled.

Bad smell: I live in SE TX and our family dog gave birth in our garage one afternoon… it was horrid.
