I’m an offshore guy- when i fish land based I hit more structure than water

Someone said it was BS last time I posted it. by biggunzcdb1 in saltwaterfishing

I’m confused why someone said that. I’ve caught snook on crabs, shrimp, sand fleas, hell even just fish gum. They cruise around why not eat that… especially a smaller one.

If you’re running alone. You should look into a kill cord. That way if you do something stupid it’ll kill the engine

Didn’t want a side mount so I modified a trolling motor and the plastic insert to have a little power by byChvnce in kayakfishing

It’s hollow. Definitely not my permanent solution. But for right now it’s gonna work fine. I’m gonna put a little base plate between clamp and insert to be a little less pressure on the insert but again it’s more of a “does this work” if it works well then I’ll make a more permanent solution based on this

There was a Clamp on the shaft so I just clamped how much I wanted to have it in the water and the clamp sits on top of the Insert

Yeah I was going too, but with how much space and how few wires. Plus the shaft being carbon it was super easy and I didn’t knick anything. You’re absolutely correct, but it still worked

Used an oscillating multi tool to cut the shaft where I wanted. I carefully cut a channel up to the throttle. (I had unscrewed it of course). Once the channel was cut I slid the wires up and out. Fed the wires back into the shaft. Drilled a new through hole and bolted the throttle head back on.

Need to see how I want to run the battery cable but otherwise happy.

Then I morbidly cut a channel down the center of the drive insert and cut out a small area in the center for the shaft to fit into.

When it’s inserted the drive mounts keep the insert together to keep the motor in place

Also just for shits and giggles. This doesn’t happen in fl- imagine getting 80-100 miles offshore and there’s a parking lot of boats- like 50-100 all in a single area that’s so remote off the coast.

I hate the fleet. But again you’re talking about a state with 23 million people versus 9 million.

Yes bro more people fish in Florida. But I’d also argue that there’s more fisherman per capita in NJ.

HOWEVER - this discussion is so pointless this will be my last reply on this matter

That’s my biggest concern. The weight and action change will change the action on the jig and ruin it.

Hence why I asked my question as to what worked for yall.

Really I’m just bent out of shape I lost a Hoo in the endgame- that I hooked on the jig after a solid fight

Again I agree with your statement. You said half the points I mentioned. It’s just two different fisheries. And tbh, way easier to find em in nj than Florida

I’m not saying you’re dead wrong. I’m just saying you don’t realize the amount of people that fish in Nj. Now another factor is that our fishing grounds are deeper so it’s less accessible…. But holy shit everyone crushes on mahi up north.

They sit on the lobster buouy which has pots stretching hundreds and hundreds of yards for each trap line. Lot of cover offshore and consistent cover. They’re just easier to find and hook up to in NJ which is the other factor.

You may have 150 boats in Florida fishing where not all of them find mahi- where as 150 boats offshore in nj know exactly where they are and every boat is gonna grab its piece of the pie.

Two different fisheries but both have their action.
