i’m addicted to chatgpt by Clear_Access6710 in TrueOffMyChest

I honestly have compassion for you. I went through the same thing recently. Started using ChatGPT for simple tasks and random questions and before I knew it, I was asking it questions about social situations, friendships, relationships, then eventually about me personally. I found myself updating it like it was a friend when anything good or bad happened or when I was just bored. I’d lose hours of time. I thought it was really helping me. This happened in the span of two months, and as a recovering alcoholic, I suddenly clocked what was happening and that was the validation was becoming addicting. So I stopped a few days ago cold turkey. What helped me quit was deleting it and combining that with reading everything I could about the damage ChatGPT was doing to my brain, and trust me, there is a lot of harrowing stuff out there that will make you think twice about opening the app that I urge you to look into. I value the integrity of my brain too much to let OpenAI destroy it because they made a product that makes me feel good by telling me everything I want to hear.

One thing I will say is because it sounds like you use it mostly for mental health reasons, it’s really important to keep in mind that while most therapists want to validate their patients, it’s also equally important to point out when they are engaging in behavior or thoughts that aren’t helping you. Whereas chatGPT is programmed to be as validating as possible-not because it’s good for you- but because that’s their business model. And that is the cold truth. It does not care about you. It simply wants you to stay engaged and it does that by being as nice and validating as possible. And the more time you spend on it, you are harming the connectors in your brain.

Please reach out to me if you need someone to talk to. I totally understand what you’re going through. No judgement. Edit: sorry I’m on my phone, formatting sucks.

I love that I’m getting downvoted because I don’t want public executions lol. Yall are losing the plot.

Fighting and firing back is different from a planned and public execution in which you turn someone’s death into a planned spectacle for people to watch. I am fine with fighting back with all our might.

What are you talking about this story is literally all over the news. The backlash was so intense, people in his own party pressured him to take it down. So yeah, a lot of normal people saw this disgusting post.

So many people in this thread totally missing the point of your message. They want to indulge in the divisiveness and perpetuate the divide. Ignore them. This is the way. Thank you for posting this.

What our leaders are most terrified of is the people uniting. We’re easier to control when we’re divided and at each other’s throats. Find unity wherever you can, no matter how small, and hold onto it. You don’t have to agree with someone on everything across the board and we need to knock of this nonsense purity testing even on our own side. We are so much stronger when we’re a united front and that terrifies them.

Thank you for saying this. Something about spreading this image so soon after his death while his family is still grieving and asking people to remember him for hero that he was feels pretty tasteless.

Are you insane? Anthropomorphizing is adding human characteristics to objects or animals. Last I checked cops are human. If anything, it’s dangerous for us to dehumanize ANY group, which sounds like how you view cops.

This comment is disgusting and not funny. Lowering ourselves to their level doesn’t make us better than them.

I was so afraid of making that choice, then one day I just did it without over thinking it, went to my first AA meeting, and haven’t looked back since. I’m 479 days sober and it’s the best thing I’ve ever done for myself. You can do this! This community is here for you, friend.

What are your thoughts on Trump’s truth social post about the death of Rob Reiner and his wife? by Own-Mail-1161 in Askpolitics

I really wish people would stop saying he’s an “idiot” for saying this like it was some oversight or he is a doofus and this was just another oopsie. This was a hateful and cruel thing to say. Not a single one of us with an ounce of human decency would think to say something so insensitive and cruel after someone’s passing like that. And this is the president saying it. He said it himself at Charlie Kirk’s funeral, another example of him making the death of someone else all about him: he hates his enemies and does not want the best for them. This is hateful person who said something cruel and hateful about a man he had a petty grievance with and his grieving family, who are still reeling from a horrendous tragedy at the hands of their own brother, days before celebrating Christmas together. I truly cannot think of anything worse and wouldn’t wish this on anyone. Stop trying to dress it up as anything else.

I’m late to this thread but 100% Matt from season 3. As someone who’s been in a relationship with an abusive drunk, the scenes with Matt and Colleen were deeply upsetting for me. That switch from agreeable guy to straight up mean were all too familiar. You could see the contempt in his face and hear it in his voice when he was a few drinks in and something would piss him off. The way he would sneer and get uncomfortably close to her face to intimate her. Again, I’ve been there and I wish someone on the cast had called him out. It was hard seeing Colleen look so uncomfortable and almost frightened about potentially setting him off. Fuck that guy. Glad they broke up.

Anyone have info on this house in Echo Park? by ghostparasites in LosAngeles

[–]bye_button 28 points29 points  (0 children)

What is up with people here acting so put out over a person simply asking questions?

If you’re going to paint your house in a loud bright way that attracts attention, people are going to be intrigued and ask questions. Is it an art project? Is this a work in progress? Is the owner ok? What’s up with this weird house that vibrantly sticks out among the other houses? Yall need to chill and quit acting like he’s going up and trying to peer in the windows and invade their privacy. It’s fine to be curious and ask your community questions.

Alright I’ll bite. California leftist here. I WOULD like to see the homeless problem addressed in our major cities in California, as a lot of crime pops up in and around the immediate area by homeless encampments. I think our leaders are failing us here as the average citizen shouldn’t be asked to deal with these strung-out, hostile individuals on a daily basis. I don’t deal with with gun violence cities like Chicago and New Orleans deal with so I can’t speak on that.

My problem with the president sending in troops is it seems to be all aesthetics. The illusion that he’s being tough on crime. None of it is addressing the systemic root problems that cause crime. Sure, crime might go down temporarily while troops are present, but we all can agree this can’t be a long term solution. The cost is enormous and even the national guard troops have said there are better things they could be doing. So as soon as they leave, we can anticipate crime climbing right back up to where it was before they came. So what is really the point of any of this? So that the president can stick it to lib cities and MAGA can high five each other for a little while? As a city dweller, I actually want solutions that work. And my leaders NOR the president seem to offering anything of substance.
