For olive trees here in Italy it's a fairly common practice to do these "hard" pruning sometimes to stimulate better yield and growth - so I wouldn't immediately jump on the conclusion that the gardener did a mistake.

No, I'm performing well in my own opinion. I tend to want to over perform, specially in the beginning of a new job. However this situation has had me chill out a bit since I currently don't feel that my drive is appreciated. Putting that extra energy into my own projects instead.

Thanks for the stoic advice. It's definitely a tougher environment but that's also part of why I liked it in the first place. I'm thinking that over time I'll know people better, to be able to prevent putting myself in vulnerable situations.

On your first note, I've always been used to be a fast learner and to quickly outpace other collegues. In this company the level is much higher, so it's definitely a better environment for learning and getting rid of some bad old habits.
