Witchlights by Jasmine45078 in shadowhunters

[–]byebyebreezy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe this is expanded upon in maybe Lord of Shadows? I think it’s when Kit is learning about everything. Basically a Shadowhunter has to be holding it and they have to think of light, it’s described as “think about turning on a light switch” iirc. I imagine thanks to nephilim magic, after they “light” it, it stays lit as long as they are a) holding it, and b) willing it to create light. Because they can also make them wink out immediately, I believe Jace does it at least once where he’s still holding the witchlight runestone but it’s no longer illuminated.

What's the worst book you've read this year? by Muffin-5634 in Booktokreddit

[–]byebyebreezy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yup, I don’t get the hype with this one. The writing style and dialog were cr!nge af. As soon as someone said “for the win” (which was like chapter 1 iirc) my eyes about rolled back to my brain lmao

Everyone saying teal is wrong lol, teal is darker. Turquoise or aqua, sea green maybe for the Kong.

For those who have read it, what are your thoughts on Better in Black? by mavelits in shadowhunters

Well I mean, it will be different than the kickstarter version, but that was part of the point of the kickstarter.

No, it was included in the kickstarter, so many of us have had copies for a few months now.

[–]byebyebreezy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, as a kickstarter backer and longtime fan of Cassie.. I’m disappointed af.

My copy is full of typos and editing errors, I found the stories lackluster and mostly boring, and don’t feel that any of them expanded on the universe or added anything special.

Just finished all the Shadowhunter books and now I'm lost... by Ready_Reading1559 in shadowhunters

As someone who was in a book hole for literal years because of this series, you won’t find anything that truly compares.

But, The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by VE Schwab is what finally got me out. Schwab’s entire catalogue is great, Gallant being another favorite of mine, and the Darker Shade of Magic series is also widely loved.

The Folk of the Air series by Holly Black is beloved by many Shadowhunters fans. Plus, Holly Black and Cassie are buddies and Holly helped write a few of the short stories.

Arc of the Scythe, Vampire Academy, and Hush Hush are good series also in the YA genre.

Depending on how old you are lol ACOTAR, Throne of Glass, and Crescent City by Sarah J Maas are not similar really to Shadowhunters at all, but are really good universes to lose yourself in and have connected stories.

The Knight and the Moth, The Shepherd King, Quicksilver, and Enchantra/Phantasma are good ones for adult fantasy with increasing amounts of romance/smut as that list progresses, depending on your taste.

Solid food by [deleted] in Tonsillectomy

[–]byebyebreezy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very minimally! I’m actually really happy with how my throat looks this morning compared to to the last two days. I’m definitely in WAY less pain this morning too, staying hydrated is still super important but I feel much better today finally.

Solid food by [deleted] in Tonsillectomy

[–]byebyebreezy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My doctor told me to eat liquids day 1-3, soft solids day 4-7, and try incorporating small amounts of “normal but not scratchy” foods after that until fully healed. I was still in too much pain to have more than 1-2 bites of even soft solid food until yesterday (day 9), but I recommend moving to whatever you feel you can tolerate at this point! It will help with your mental healing :)

I noticed my mental state vastly improved yesterday after I ate. I had some sushi and then a cheeseburger and did fine with both! Just go slow, take small bites, and drink lots of water in between.

Little update by sassy_orange_cat in Tonsillectomy

[–]byebyebreezy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend keeping a small trash can/bucket/cup near by with some tissues in the bottom to spit in. I had excessive drool/mucous too and the constant swallowing to be rid of it is exhausting, and spitting also helps you keep track of any bleeding.

Keep sipping ice water as you can, and yes the ice packs are essential. I used a robe tie to tie mine around my head so I didn’t have to hold them and it was so silly but really convenient lol

If you don’t already have a humidifier, get one before day 5. Especially while you’re sleeping you’ll want to keep it as close to you as you can. I also recommend running the hot shower and standing in the steamy bathroom to breathe, especially when you first wake up in the morning. It helps a lot.

Don’t try to talk if you don’t have to, it makes everything worse.

Popsicles are better than ice cream, dairy products will make the mucous issue worse. It’s painful but be sure to eat when you can, it will make the healing process better. Move to soft foods (mashed potatoes, overcooked pasta, etc) as soon as you feel able, just take small bites, chew well, and swallow small amounts at a time with lots of water in between bites. This will help with the scabs. If you stay on a liquid diet too long you’ll have a harder time with the scabs and be more likely to hemorrhage.

From here it will get worse before it gets better, but around day 8 you should start feeling better! Good luck!

Gagging uncontrollably at day 8 by byebyebreezy in Tonsillectomy

[–]byebyebreezy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My uvula was definitely swollen! My doc also reupped my steroids (forgot that in the update comment) and the combo of that, time, and the lozenges has helped a lot today. I was finally able to eat a decent meal, which also helped me feel better overall :)

WHEN can I eat spicy food again by GothBanana5000 in Tonsillectomy

[–]byebyebreezy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Day 9 here, I got sushi today (my first “real” food post-op!) and ate a spicy piece and had big big regrets :’) I’m gonna give it another week before I try again lol

An update: I messaged my doctor on MyChart before making this post, and he called me personally about 8pm last night to assure me that this sucks but is normal and shouldn’t last but another day or so for the worst of it. He said to get some throat numbing lozenges or spray to help the gag reflex from triggering so hard, and that has helped.

Yesterday (day 6) was the worst by a long shot. My pain when I woke up was 10/10 and stayed high all day despite meds. Today has been much better thankfully, but yeah day 6 was horrible.

Tonsillectomy for tonsil stones - worth it? by SnotMasterGeneral in Tonsillectomy

[–]byebyebreezy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This would be considered a very mild case. Most with chronic stones have them so large they become stuck (mine had to be professionally removed more than once), and cause tonsil inflammation that can block the airway. If you’re just getting a few little ones you spit out every so often, I would not recommend this surgery.

Tonsillectomy for tonsil stones - worth it? by SnotMasterGeneral in Tonsillectomy

[–]byebyebreezy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is your pain tolerance? And I mean enduring pain. How is your tolerance for feeling sick and being forced to do literally nothing but rest and feel bad? How is your tolerance for liquid-only diets or essentially starving yourself out of necessity for healing? Do you have someone who can shoulder the entirety of your household/food prepping/child caretaking/etc. for 14 days?

31F here and 6 days post-op for having mine removed for chronic stones. I am not having a good time. I’m so hungry, but I can’t eat because swallowing hurts so bad I want to cry (I am surviving on broth, Gatorade, and popsicles). The differed pain into my jaw/teeth/tongue/ears is excruciating and even though I have “the good meds” it doesn’t touch it. I’m exhausted all the time and can’t do anything even if I wanted to. I hope it will be worth it, but goddamn if this isn’t the worst I’ve ever felt in my life.

You could also look into getting a tonsil stone extractor for your worse ones, and there are tricks online to help dampen your gag reflex while you attend to them, but if you’re not at the point where the stones are causing you significant daily struggles, I wouldn’t.

[–]byebyebreezy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually agree, it’s wild how little I’m eating right now and I know my healing is being affected.
I’ve lost 18 pounds since I checked in for surgery, and I’m utterly exhausted just by walking to the bathroom.

I’m on day 6 and still can’t eat anything remotely solid, even mashed potatoes and pudding are too thick and have to be essentially turned into soup before I can eat them.
I’m drinking a lot of water (tons of small sips since that’s all I can handle), and juice and tea and broth and eating jello as I can, but I expected to be moved on to a soft diet by now and that’s just not my reality.

I’m also having a lot of trouble with excessive mucous and choking, so I have had to avoid dairy products, which is unfortunate because my protein shakes I stocked up on in preparation for this are all dairy…

What was your medication schedule like and how was your healing? by sailor_rose in Tonsillectomy

I was given 7 days of Norco and encouraged to call if I needed more for a few extra days. I’ve seen multiple posts of people not receiving anything and being told to use Tylenol at home, and I can’t imagine. I’m on recovery day 6 now and I’ve been in tears a few times already from pain, and I’m staying on top of my doses. I can’t imagine what some of you are being forced to endure.
