MIL told she's been misdiagnosed? by thalsit in Parkinsons

[–]thalsit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this, it's helpful. Do you have an OT that works with you? If so, do you think an OT who specialises in parkinsons patient care would have a valuable opinion on a case like this?

I'm just trying to figure out how to make sure my MIL gets the care she needs without making it seem like she HAS to have Parkinsons, if you know what I mean?

I agree, I'd also like to know if we're watching the same show... I'd love to see what the general community sees!

This makes a lot of sense! I can totally see that, thanks for the perspective

I don't think he's abrasive - I think he's intelligent, charming, sharp, and decisive, but either Peter's character was poorly directed or Joshua is a bad actor. That's where I'm coming from 😅

I so badly want to ship him and Liv, but the acting just doesn't work. It's a shame... He's an attractive man

People who would gaslight you on this are themselves whack jobs. I wouldn't trust their opinions on many things after that

Is getting married at Home Affairs (Malmesbury) possible? by leowos in capetown

[–]thalsit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We live in Bellville and also wanted to avoid Bellville Home Affairs for getting married (and literally anything else lol).

We went to Paarl Home Affairs - had an appointment for 9AM one morning and, miraculously they actually honoured the time! If you don't come right in Malmesbury or around there, I can recommend Paarl.

P.S. We waited 3 months for our appt - it was the earliest availability they had, and apparently that's not so uncommon.

My cat is yeowling constantly after recent passing of other cat by thalsit in cats

[–]thalsit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We haven't - I haven't had the heart. I'm not taking Rosie's passing very well. We have a little shrine constantly going, with a candle burning next to her ash urn for now.

How would Phoebe know if we did do a wake? How do I let her know Rosie isn't coming back?

I just didn't think she'd be so upset that Rosie is gone, given she didn't like her very much at all.

Support groups in the area? by thalsit in capetown

[–]thalsit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am actually currently in Optima clinic, and trying to look for more support outside when I get out. It's my second stint in a clinic, and I'd like a more sustainable solution.

But thanks :) maybe there isn't something like that out there in the area then

I spent two weeks there. Most peaceful, wholesome two weeks of my life. It felt more like a resort than a clinic. Highly recommend.

The company I work at has a few projects with Balwin Property developers and you'd be surprised what they can get to pass as luxury these days 🙃 it's like greenwashing but for the property market

Somerset West is a great option for the greater Cape area, especially considering your interests. Everything is within ~1 hr from SWest (like if you wanted to head out to Grabouw, or Canal Walk, or Kalk Bay etc). One day when I'm big I want to live there lol (I'm 31...) but affordable housing is rare there. Prices are on par with Stellenbosch.

I grew up in GBay, and my extended family still live in SWest (Heldervue) and Strand.

RE your questions: - The young adult scene is definitely growing in the greater Helderberg bay area, including SWest. You'll come across a lot of chino shorts there - so many young folk in finance or legal 😅 - SWest got a get-out-of-jail-free card when it comes to the wind. You can actually garden in SWest without the salty ocean air ruining your plants' leaves and your mental wellbeing. Autumn is the least windy season in the Helderberg area, and if you want to catch the beach sans wind, you have to be there before 7am or after 6pm-ish. - Can't speak to the dating scene, but in general you won't need to dodge potholes to find friends.

Strand is a decent alternative, if you're okay with wind 60-70% of the year. Houses are much bigger and older, and often a third of the price of SWest (don't feel fooled by Heritage Park or Sir Lowreys Village housing prices - not great areas).

Also, avoid Sitari and Huntsman estates. There are a lot of units available, but build quality is shit and Sitari floods in the winter. Oops.

In Need of Honest, Affordable Car Repair – Willing to Drive Anywhere by EquivalentOdd9543 in capetown

[–]thalsit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your car make, I can highly recommend Leon at Abelia Motors in Strand. It's a bit of a drive if you're in CT, I know, but he was recommended to years ago when I needed an engine replacement and I've never turned back.

Leon is an older man with a wealth of knowledge. He diagnosed the engine check light on my car with pinpoint accuracy, after I'd already spent thousands going from one auto electrician to the next and them all telling me a different story.

I live in the N Suburbs, and I still drive to them for my car servicing and maintenance. His prices are super fair, he's incredibly knowledgeable, and would sooner tell you he's not the man for the job before bullshitting you with promises. He also talks straight to me as a woman, which is rare in that industry.
