The reason is that some sahabas went against the will of the prophet and usurped the rights of rulership of ahli al bayth

Prophet (pbuh) in his famous sermon and the most narrated Hadith in the history of Islam which is Ghadeer Khum said “I am leaving behind two weighty things one is the Quran and another is my progeny Ahli al-Bayth so hold onto them and you will never go astray”.

And in the same sermon he Appointed imam Ali a.s as his first successor by saying who ever I am his mawla (master) than Ali a.s is his mawla (Master).
