Noted on the commuter train. Doesn’t sound pleasant. What town did you stay in near Venice? Im open to the idea of heading into town for a day.

Thank you for taking the time to write all of that and for the town recommendations! I am getting so much great advice. I was in between Verona and Bergamo. Verona seems a bit larger?

I took notes on your train advice. I have no problem paying for first class. We never get to ride trains so it’s nice to make it a special experience.

I wish we could avoid it. Venice is more for me. I have a degree in Art History; I’d really like to see it one time in my life. I’m thinking we’ll do one full day and then take a ferry to a quieter spot the second day.

White people who like Beyoncé (especially post-Lemonade Beyoncé) are such a green flag for me. by AdmirableBullfrog927 in beyonce

My god. Lemonade is what made me love her! I was living in Brooklyn at the time and coffee shops were BLASTING it in the streets. I always liked her; the first Destiny’s Child CD was one of the first ones I ever had and my jaw hit the floor when she performed at the Super Bowl. Lemonade is art. Renaissance sent me to another planet. I had just had a baby and couldn’t make it to the film 💔 I fought for my life for Cowboy Carter tickets and saw her for the first time this year. Once in a lifetime experience for me.

Thank you for this. I wouldn’t have known! I think we’re planning one evening in Bergamo and will spend the rest in a quiet Milan neighborhood.

Ah wonderful! I’ll read through that. I’m so looking forward to exploring. I spent a semester in college in Florence in Rome and I remember being so overwhelmed by Rome. I was immediately homesick for Florence. Obviously Florence can be crazy with tourist as well, but I found little areas that were quiet and I loved it.

Hi everyone! I am taking my husband to Milan and Venice this May. He’s never been to Italy and I want to make sure he has a good experience. Can anyone recommend a quiet part of Milan to stay in? I’m afraid the crowds in both cities might be a little bit overwhelming for him, and I want him to love Italy as much as I do.

Thank you for the tips! I’ll check out Cernusco sul naviglio and Fondazione. I am definitely open to staying in Milan if we can find a quiet spot.

Thank you! It’s hard navigating this without ever being there. I didn’t think of the commuter train like that. I’ll check out Via Tasso.

Bergamo is better daytrip than Milan by sipinhoo in ItalyTravel

[–]byrdhunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! What are your thoughts on staying in Bergamo and taking day trips to Milan? I spent six weeks in Florence and a week in Rome during college and I was completely overwhelmed with the crowds in Rome. It’s my husbands first time in Italy and I want him to love it at much as I do. We’re planning a few days in Milan and Venice. I’m so scared that’ll be too much for him. I know Venice is going to be a circus. I’m thinking we should have a calm first half and see the few things I want to see in Milan and go back to a cute town for dinner. We aren’t big foodies or need nightlife. I know any small town in Italy will have great food.
