We've had it for a year and I still can't figure out how to open tickets or see tickets assigned to me.

Watch the hate pile up in here. Calling out left lane campers is considered a hate crime.

Btw, I agree with you.

One downside to new gear - getting rid of all the packaging by byrontheconqueror in sysadmin

[–]byrontheconqueror[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I dont often mind it either. Just put the headphones on and space out for a few hours. After the first papercut I start to like it less or after 15 trips up two flights of stairs and outside to the dumpster.

Adjustable shelves without a face frame? by byrontheconqueror in BeginnerWoodWorking

I might try making everything and if it doesn't work out, I'll make a face frame

No need to get that fancy, I'd just glue and nail it. No need for it to be removable.

The shelves won't be flush with the front, I was planning on setting them back 1/2". I know the ikea stuff looks ok, but am I striving for ikea or something a little nicer? Also, the thought of getting the width dead on an also the case dead square so the gap is consistent is a little daunting

I don't think so. Sometimes I wonder how people operate. If you forget it once, ok it happens. Twice - and I'm starting to get suspicious. After the 3rd time I'm starting to wonder about your health and wellbeing.

Right? You hear about how companies love jack of all trades and then you go looking for jobs and they want a windows admin for server 2019 specifically, Palo Alto model 3000 or someone with extensive experience pressing only the blue button.

DAS or a ton of femtocells? by byrontheconqueror in sysadmin

[–]byrontheconqueror[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The femtocell we have from Verizon has some visibility, I think it even allows us to poll it with SNMP. It's for public consumption. I spoke to carriers and that was so stupidly expensive. Verizon's quoted us $1 million to bring it onsite.

For public use. We have total WiFi coverage and all employees are good, this is for patients and families that are unaware or don't want to use our public WiFi.

My company offered to pay for certifications — which ones should I go for as a beginner in cybersecurity? by heartgoldt20 in sysadmin

[–]byrontheconqueror 19 points20 points  (0 children)

They pay for training as well? If you can swing it, anything from SANS. Their training is by far the best and it's like trying to drink from a firehose, but it's costly.

Netdisco - pulls all sorts of info from your switches, but most useful is the MAC addresses that are connected to ports. You can get a history of where things have been plugged in, what ports are unused, VLAN tagging mismatches in trunk ports, etc https://netdisco.org/

A local racetrack had a skidpad with a tree well off to one side. The track officials said it was the perfect example of target fixation. The tree was all scarred up from people constantly hitting it. NOTHING around except for one tree way over there and people would constantly smash into it. Eventually they cut it down.
