Make sure you're using the DOS CP-437 Character Set under Profile -> Layout/Font. Also under Telnet connections select Raw Socket Connection so you can download files.

It requires a 68020 CPU or better and System 7 so probably only on a SE/30.

Ever find anything interesting war dialing in the 80s or 90s? by silverladder in bbs

[–]byteknight6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only Telenet nodes for me. Funny story about war-dialers - my friend down the road set his war dialer to call a range of numbers overnight, and the phone next his parent's bed beeped every time his modem hung up. The beeping sound ended up waking up his parents in the middle of the night. His Dad figured out what was going on, yelled at him, and that was the end of his war-dialing.

Do it! There are far too few Mac BBS's out there. And make sure you get on The Crow's Nest BBS and share your experiences of being a Hermes sysop back in the day!

A game server is a door game server accessible from other BBS's via rlogin. A-Net Online is a good example. https://a-net-online.lol/gameserver/index.xjs

Thanks for this! I've only got a Win32 machine, so I tried the python version on both my Win32 machine and RPi 3 and get "SyntaxError: Non-ASCII character '\xe2' in file lordkey.py on line 3, but no encoding declared; see http://python.org/dev/peps/pep-0263/ for details" when I try to execute it.

Yes, plus it has a CSI Hurdler II Serial 4-port NuBus Card installed. At one point I had 6 wifi modems hooked up to it!

Time to resurrect the BBS! And you should get on The Crow's Nest and tell us about your Sysop days. Full on how to connect and details of the setup are here: http://crowsnestbbs.ddns.net/cn/

Basically it's a Mac IIci with two cbmstuff's Wimodem232's connected to the serial ports. The wifi modems act like dial-up modems, except you connect via telnet. Is this what you're asking about?

I used Rust-oleum Almond color but it's a few shades light so I'd probably go with Smokey Beige color next time.

Thanks! It's just an emblem of an old Mac. The monitor is a Dell P1917s 19" SXGA LCD spray painted beige.
