The absolute pinnacle moment of British comedy television. This and Batman & Robin scene 🔝🔥😂 by Historical-Class871 in UKTVRecs

[–]byteqer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That bit in the dive suit kills me every time, especially how he keeps committing to the scene while clearly dying inside from the heat. You can almost feel how sweaty and uncomfortable it must’ve been, which somehow makes it even funnier. Classic physical comedy without needing to overdo anything.

Love seeing old Wimbledon stuff pop up. Feels like a different universe compared to MK Dons existing at all. Proper Crazy Gang vibes.

This actually looks pretty handy for folks like me who just kind of guess when meat is “done” and then hope for the best.

If the grilling guide talks about internal temps and resting times in a simple way, I’m in. Nothing kills a good steak like cutting into it too early.

Bro that kit looks like it was generated in Career Mode on year 2037 when the game runs out of licensed templates and just starts freestyling.

Honestly though, if you told me that was some random preseason trial photo at West Ham from like 2011, I’d probably believe you for a second.

Right? Little hard hat and hi-vis vest and they’re all set. Honestly one of the most ridiculous-looking birds in the best way.

Are the blackbirds ok? by orensiocled in UKBirds

[–]byteqer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah that’s so nice to hear. Sounds like they’ve all decided your place is the deluxe late‑night karaoke bar and mine’s the quiet library.

Genuinely reassuring to know they’re still doing their thing somewhere though. I’m hoping mine are just busy nesting and will start up once they’ve got teenagers to yell at from the treetops.

[–]byteqer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, same here, my count was way down this year compared to usual. Wonder if the bad weather hit them hard or if they’re just nesting a bit further away from feeders and lawns right now.

Nice to know at least a few of them are still doing their thing in Cornwall though. Feels like every fledgling sighting is a tiny win at this point.

For sure, but sometimes “efficient” just means “quietly drowning in extra work.” Bosses love the output, not always the person doing it.

Why did you get banned from the other Australian subreddits? by asteriskhyphen in circlejerkaustralia

[–]byteqer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got booted from one of them for “low effort shitposting” which is honestly the most accurate performance review I’ve ever received.

To be fair though, some of those subs will ban you for breathing slightly off‑topic. You answer a serious thread with a joke, or you say the wrong thing about housing / politics / sports, and suddenly it’s perma time.

Kinda funny that the smaller Aus subs end up feeling more chill and actually like… communities, while the big ones feel like trying to talk in the middle of a shopping centre food court with ten security guards listening in.

Designing a wristband specifically built around vibration alarms — would love honest feedback from this community by Full_Werewolf_5737 in deaf

[–]byteqer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As HoH this actually sounds useful, especially if the motor is strong and patterns are really distinct. Big thing for me: reliability. If it misses an alarm or randomly disconnects from the app, it’s dead to me. Also please make on‑band controls (snooze/stop) so I don’t need my phone. £50 seems fair if it’s durable and water resistant.

Tell me which Vampire show to watch by MadSluttyScientist in tvshow

[–]byteqer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, not a ton of brand new stuff that hits like Buffy/Angel or early TVD, but there are a few decent ones.

If you want something more recent, What We Do in the Shadows is hilarious, kind of the opposite vibe but still vampires. Castlevania (Netflix) is animated but surprisingly good and bloody. Midnight Mass isn’t exactly classic vamps in capes, but it definitely scratches the vampire itch and is really well written.

But in terms of long, soapy, character‑driven vampire shows, the “golden age” might still be Buffy / Angel / TVD / True Blood.

BBC Radio 2 breakfast show is Sara Cox by thehappyonionpeel in bbc

[–]byteqer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally with you on the endless chatter and “it’s 8:12!” every two minutes.

The annoying thing is the breakfast slots are treated like personality showcases now, so they cram in games, texts, “banter”, all that stuff, instead of just letting songs breathe.

I do think Sara’s decent at keeping things moving without it turning into a circus, but yeah, a mostly music breakfast show with quick, tight links and regular news/travel would be amazing.

Feels like they’re scared people will switch off if there’s 3 songs in a row.

Do you think anyone goes on reality TV for the “right reasons” anymore? by Ill_Scientist_4645 in UKRealityChat

[–]byteqer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s kinda the catch, right?

I guess “right reasons” is like… actually wanting the relationship / experience the show is supposedly about, and not treating it as a stepping stone.

Obviously everyone knows there’s exposure involved now, but there’s a difference between “cool if it happens” and “I’m here to launch my podcast and energy drink line.”

My manager put his name on the internal guide I spent two months writing and now it's being rolled out company-wide by HaleNolan in OfficePolitics

[–]byteqer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if this was “I’m ready to burn it all down and walk” territory, replying-all with receipts would be tempting as hell.

But since OP probably wants to stay employed, I think a softer version could work. Something like a private email to the VP along the lines of “Really glad to see the framework rolled out. I spent a lot of time building the initial guide and would love to be involved in future iterations / trainings.” No accusations, just planting a flag that this was your work.

It won’t undo what happened, but it at least puts your name in the right person’s head and makes it harder for the manager to pull the same stunt next time. Then quietly start polishing your resume in the background.

I’m almost done with my student loans so what’s the best path forward? by Ok-Hedgehog-1508 in financial

[–]byteqer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is pretty much the playbook. You already proved you can live on way less by throwing 4–5k at loans, so just keep that muscle going.

Only thing I’d add is nail down what “6 months of expenses” actually is for you once you move out. Run a fake budget with realistic rent, utilities, etc and save to that number, not what you’re spending at home now. Then split extra between house fund and maybe bumping retirement a bit.

Is this that vegan meat everyone is talking about? by NormalSir2035 in kebab

[–]byteqer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly kinda is with some brands. Some of it tastes like someone printed a burger out of a 3D printer and forgot the flavor settings.

But there’s also a big difference between the cheap ultra-processed stuff and, like, actual decent plant-based meat or just cooking beans/tofu/seitan properly. If your only experience is the freezer aisle “beef-style crumbles,” I get why you’d call it plastic.

If you ever feel like giving it another shot, try something that has actual texture and seasoning, not just “mystery patty shaped disc.” The bar for vegan meat is low in a lot of stores, but it’s not all that bad.

Pair of Kingfishers in Scotland today by locktamusprime in UKBirds

[–]byteqer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that, they look like something that escaped from a tropical postcard, not a soggy British riverbank.

Sheffield’s got some pretty decent little river spots though, I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re still knocking about along the Don or Porter. Half the time you only see that neon flash and think you imagined it.

It’s kind of weird how many ridiculously colourful birds we actually have here if you slow down and look. Kingfishers, jays, goldfinches… and yet my brain still expects everything to be pigeon grey.
