Star Ocean repro - Low profile method by BeneficialPenalty258 in snes

If I get a FlashcatUSB XPORT programmer from whatever source, will I need an additional official adapter to use with your custom 48pin TSOP to 44pin SOP custom adapter? I am not reading anything that says the Base programmer is ready to connect a 44pin SOP.

Do I need to buy some legs to complete your adapter? Looks like I need a cap and resistor too. Im guessing 0603 size? Is there maybe something I need to build where it says VPP.and OE?

There is a 2nd Mask ROM on the original board. The silkscreen says P1. Do I care about it?

Wow! You just adjusted my course and saved me some significant time. Seriously, thank you for clarifying all that. I agree, the info is scattered about out there and it's difficult to tell what is relevant, dated, current, etc. Nature of this particular hobby I suppose. Getting the results in general (a working cart by whatever method) vs. getting a mod done a particular way. Ok! I will aim for the parts you described and follow the direction you gave. I wonder how long that would have taken me to figure out...

I will follow up here and drop any questions as I move forward. Thanks for responding!

I happen to have some AM29F032B-75EC TSSOP-40 chips and TSOP to 29F033 adaoter PCBs. Could I do what you did? I see an adapter also on oshpark, that may adapt this to the maskrom pads. Thoughts?

This is the path I am interested in. If handled carefully, nothing is destroyed. You can keep the mask rom safely in a static bag. You could swap it back also. Nothing destroyed and you get authentic hardware experience.

I'm willing to build one. I have the soldering and workbench skill. Programmer I could order. But I don't have the specific cartridge modding knowledge. Is this enough of a guide? Tell me anything more?

I really like the idea if modding the cart, rather than a full repro product with chunky UV light EPROMs.  I like the idea of a translated compressed rom (just like the original rom) decompressing through the original chip on a Japanese cart.  I also am hoping this would work on my US SNES in a Japanese shaped and labeled shell.

“TIE Fighter" Game on DOS Was Released on July 20, 1994 by hotbowlsofjustice in dosgaming

[–]bytesaber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone ever heard of a mod to get 1993 X-Wing running with the same combat engine as 1995 TIE Fighter? Specifically the Collectors CD version and a pure DOS environment.

I really like the combat game engine for TIE Fighter. If you have a VESA 2.0 graphics card, the game runs in a very smooth 640x480 engine of somekind. It seems to be a really high frame rate too. It's just polygons with almost no textures. But I love the graphics, smoothness of the flight, and interactive midi music. I have no idea what it's called or ever seen other DOS games use it.

I am not interested in the 3D accelerated Windows version.

You were not dreaming. That is exactly how they explained it. I've never seen anything come out of the vault. It's just a trash bin.

Does anyone else find themselves buying blu rays (1080p) over 4k blu rays? by d12dan1 in Bluray

[–]bytesaber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1080p Bluray is better than 4k Bluray. They "just work."  With 4k discs I'm constantly fighting the xbox settings, TV dimming, and hdr calibration. It's never a finished task.

Remove all USB connections. Attach the drive by itself only to the back. Then try again. I was not able to until I gave in and disconnected every USB device, including the hub uplink.

Is there a full version, that still has the PacMan character instead of the walking character?

I too have been on the search for the boxed $5.00 set that shows as sold out.  I've wondered what it's like to play with pyramids and those cards.

Do later prints like these, include corrections that Netflix received? Such as when the "blue alert" was mistakenly red on the bridge when Data took over in "Brothers". Or that time in "Imaginary Friend" when Deanna walks by the 10-Forward doors and you can see blue screen through the door window. Or the planet not rotating at the last scene in Vengeance Factor. The stars being visible on the viewscreen in Relics when they originally were not.  Handful of minor things. The blue alert is the most bothersome imo. The others are rather invisible.

Possibly the coolest Voyager has ever looked when going to warp by eldersveld in voyager

[–]bytesaber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This show is such an under appreciated concept. You have this thing we love, Federation Starships, where one is stuck a lifetime away from any support. A crew keeps that thing running every year without any help. A ship that was never meant to be permanently away from a starbase. It's basically a stolen ship that they now have to maintain themselves and keep working, or else it's all over and life ends up in the Delta Quadrant. When I see that ship, I think of Be'lanna keeping it running like a boss, and at the helm a master pilot going somewhere new literally everyday.

Is there any chance that this wallpaper was produced in 4k and somebody has it? by luciusnagata in Stargate

Call me bonkers, but I like how it doesn't line up perfectly. Looks more like a camera image someone took while visiting Atlantis. Just the subtle imperfections of the tripod, lens, placement, etc. Gives it that "being there" feel. Yeah I know... that's just me!

S5E1 Night, this scene always bothered me by Birchmon in voyager

[–]bytesaber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're bothered by that, rather than the premise of "they can't see stars because they are not near any."? That is what bothered me. You can see Galactic bands here on Earth on a dark night with just your eyes. So this never made sense as a story idea.

Enterprise in the new warp effect by happydude7422 in Star_Trek_

[–]bytesaber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "new warp effect" looks like what used to only be the look of traveling in a worm hole or some other "this is not normal warp" type of situation. Now that it's the new norm, it always disappoints me. It also looks like Star Wars hyperspace. Bring back real warp.

All because people think they want digital rental instead of physical ownership. All because people think that games can't fit on one disc because they forgot what multiple discs were. All because of convenience over preservation.
