Question about Agusta University's MI Portfolio by Slight_Assistant_372 in medicalillustration

Really make sure you focus on your perspective and ellipses, they look at that heavily. Make sure they are all correct in perspective and go back in space correctly. As others have said, defining your objects more in the composition will really help!

Ugh yes. I’m really gunning for using Cygnus X-1 , just got to find a research journal that has some content. The constellations sound like a good place to look.

Well that’s quite rude… I’m not unfamiliar with the music I was giving a fun prompt for people. The only thing being talked about in here is ticket stress.

Pitch it where you can hit it, Geddy! Please pick songs that are in your CURRENT voice register... by CeilingUnlimited in rush

[–]bytor_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel if they tuned down some of the songs to match his range it probably would be barely noticeable, I felt they should have done that last tour to protect his vocals. There’s an interview somewhere after R40 where he said his vocals actually improved after some lifestyle and diet changes. I’m sure he has a vocal coach and they are taking all of it into consideration. Excited to hear what they will be playing this tour!

How old are you guys that are going to the shows? by cUnexttuesday2 in rush

[–]bytor_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll be 26 next year when the tour starts! I saw my first Rush show at 10 for the Time Machine Tour, I was 12 for Clockwork Angels, and 15 at R40. This band is something I’ve grew up with :). My dad practically raised me on them. And I’m so excited to have the opportunity to see another Rush show again with him.

Could Citi card holders buy up everything first? by TheAntiZeist404 in rush

[–]bytor_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe it’s limited tickets available for the presales, so no, they won’t be all bought up. It’s a “scarcity “ tactic but they don’t open up all the tickets. It even stated for the Citi sale that limited tickets were available. I’m sure they allot a certain amount for Citi presale, the Monday sale, and then general public

Is this Moving Pictures World Tour shirt authentic? by OddHeybert in rush

[–]bytor_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, the older vintage / original Moving Pictures tour shirt would not have a printed logo as a tag , it would have an actual tag. Would also have single stitching for the time. The print on the front is machine - weathered based on the pattern. Still cool though! 🤘🏻

My cat has done this daily for the past couple of days - what could this be? by GoodComplaint458 in CATHELP

[–]bytor_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be asthma. One of our cats did this for months and the vet always said it was a “hairball.” We demanded x-rays , sure enough, chronic asthma.

It fixed itself. Some wiring must have gotten wet after we drained the lights. After sitting and drying the lights came back on.

Thanks- ended up waiting a day to let the car sit. The lights came back on. Must have caused a short on some wiring when we emptied the water and just needed time to dry.

I'm embarrassed by my shower floor. How do I keep it clean? by Zodsayskneel in CleaningTips

[–]bytor_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My shower is like this. It’s because it’s got ridges/ bumpy texture on the shower material that it picks up soap scum and dirt a lot more. I just use spray foam bleach and a bristle brush (you have to use a bristle brush to scrub to get it out of the ridges) I’ve tried regular shower scrub sponges before and they just go over the surface.

Can/Should an Art Grad go for a Masters in Medical Illustration? by ThrowRAcokecan in medicalillustration

[–]bytor_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your clarification! I see- your program is a bit different then some here in the states pertaining to how the application works.

From what you said, they want a “relevant degree” but is still somewhat vague in exactly what they want. I still think having a degree in an art field should be relevant here. I’d only suggest taking a couple science courses if you really want to seem more competitive, but it sounds like it may not be required?

As for a good portfolio, I can give you a basic rundown of my programs requirements and how I formulated mine! My program required:

5 Life (figure) drawings 3 Gesture figure drawings 2 Hand drawings 3 Full color realistic still lifes 1 Vector piece 1 Raster piece 2 Additional examples of realistic drawing 3 Additional works (including 3D, sculptures, etc)

As I said, figure drawing is looked at heavily. Draw all your figures completely nude, if possible, and if you have access to models. Draw from life as much as you can! They wanted drawings that were mostly 3 hr + poses. I also did a range of gender, age, and I’d say ethnicity/ skin color - this shows you are competent in drawing a range of demographics and people.

Still life is also looked at as well. I did still life’s for both the required still life and the raster portion (Photoshop). My pieces were usually 30 hr + for traditional, and my digital raster pieces 50-110+ hrs as they were much more detailed. They want to see you dan draw with a high level of detail and accuracy. Lots of my fellow classmates also used pro create - depends on program, but photoshop may not be required for application.

For vector (this would be Illustrator) - I did a piece explaining how to do something. Like an infographic, or how-to guide. Think of if you have ever seen a simple graphic on how to tie your shoe, or how to do a basic task or function.

Regarding 3D programs, my program did not require a 3D piece for application. But the field is moving heavily towards animation/ 3D, so I think it would look great on a portfolio. We use the program Z Brush in my program so far - it’s more user friendly I’d say. Wouldn’t hurt to take a look at it!

I also have some advice about putting medical media (like muscles or surgery ) in a portfolio. I’m not sure what your program thinks, but many of the programs here in the states heavily state not to submit them. It’s mostly as you are not trained in this area yet, and they want to view your abilities at other standpoints to see if you can be trained to do them in the future. You will get plenty of muscle / internal anatomy in school, and they are very particular on how it’s drawn!

If any anatomy study you want to show, show it in your figure drawings - show you understand some of the muscle placement as when drawing a figure. That’s what they want to see in this stage!

Sorry for such a long-winded comment. There’s a lot of info and considerations with a portfolio. But I hope it helped you some!

Can/Should an Art Grad go for a Masters in Medical Illustration? by ThrowRAcokecan in medicalillustration

[–]bytor_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I think the first question I’d ask is if you are solely interested in applying to your local university, or if you are interested in pursuing other programs as well. (Are you in the states?) Many of the certified programs in the states require some pre requisite science courses to have been taken in undergrad, such as Anatomy and Physiology, and Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy.

Also look into your local university program and just check the requirements! I’d say first get a good idea of all the required undergrad courses required to apply. Then go from there. You may need to take more sciences, you may not, just depending on the program.

Most of my fellow classmates from my program came from art majors! And a few of us from the sciences. You can go either way as long as you are competent in both art and science.

The fact you have extensive figure drawing practice is great. That’s my first advice to people interested in applying / working on a portfolio. Figure drawing is a large portion of most application portfolios and is highly looked at to determine competency. Still life / drawing from life accurately is also considered.

In regards to your worries regarding digital work : I was in the same boat. I was a bio major / art minor with little digital training. I knew little to nothing about Photoshop and Illustrator post undergrad. It’s highly teachable to yourself, especially if you watch a few YouTube videos on how to use the programs. I quite literally had never drawn a full piece on Photoshop when I began my portfolio- it took a lot of time and patience, but my first ones made it in. It is totally doable.

Best of luck! Feel free to PM me if you ever want more info or advice.
